@U-H, nice one. i'm liking the mech parts a lot but the organic parts need some work, especially re: proportions. i don't think you were going for photorealistic but it still doesn't look quite right. i do like the top of his head, tho (and the top of his pants and belt)

@greenlig, very nice, as always. one thing bugs me, tho; i think the eave should extend out a bit further? not that i've seen whole lotta barn/rural buildings to say "it's wrong", it just doesn't look right to me oh, ps: funny how the smallest detail (the red scarf) really "makes" a piece. perfect touch

@all, 100+ posts to the thread, now, and lots of good stuff. here's to 100 more!

I have been looking at the barn too, Nomad, and there is something skew-iff about the whole thing. I might touch it up a bit.

Thanks for the comment on the scarf too. There are pretty much three colours in the whole piece, and I figured a bit of bright red wouldn't go astray. Adds the tiny bit of warmth that the whole thing needs.

Wow some really nice artwork in this thread, I am impressed.
Would like to post some of my own, so here goes.

First up is an oil pastel portrait.



I used to work for museums and galleries as an illustrator, this scene is c1911 Acrylic.


Finally photographs of me working on pavement drawings 1994, thats me getting my hands dirty , used to do these in a few hours. It was one of my favourite things to do and actually paid really well.




Spent my whole working life as an artist in one form or another
Now completely digital but thought some folks might like these traditional works, I got a ton of work in my potrfolio that never sees the light of day anymore

@sigh - i like it. and, your shading skills are apparent on the cactus (my favorite part of your scene). what you experienced while drawing is the core of what makes digital art what it is today: layers that can be tweaked without messing up the whole piece and the UNDO button. so, scan it and do your magic

@rolfy - very nice. pavement art has always intrigued me (especially some of the 3D stuff) and your portraits are very nice. your c1911 illustration = you need to make a game that takes place in that era; there are not enough. and, finally, i'm sure there are many, many artists like yourself that have "tons of work" noone sees... so, in this day and age, why don't you (and others) post more of it online?

been working on my concepting skills, and came up with this guy. Pretty happy with him. planning on actually turning him into a 3d model.



PS: the arms are intentionally disproportionate to the rest of the body. Also, the image quality is kinda lower cause of being a jpg.

WOW..This is GREAT stuff. How did I miss this thread?!?! O.o

Greenlig...LOVE the pics m8. They look very nice and I like the way you put them together.

I cant really draw as such but I do do some 3D work.

Heres a couple of pics I have done in the past.


This is a picture of a zombie.

In the cold darkened house, a team of survivors hear a noise and spin around.
Caught in the torchlight the face of an undead strains towards them.


Everyone does one of these at some time so here is my take.

A young girl looks out of a large window at the city below. Towers reaching upwards towards the sky.

Looks good!

It may be slow moving, but its kinda nice to see this thread still active, theres some very interesting work in here in a variety of styles.

Heres another pavement drawing from me, I traveled all over Europe doing these, used to make a nice living off of it too, I could
make more in a day doing this than I could working a 'proper' job. I really kinda miss the thrill of it, you would meet all
sorts of people and since its not something you can walk away from you just had to grin and bear it when the nutters wanted to grab your attention. The best time was when Jehova's witnesses
(not that I think Jehova's witnesses are nutters,kinda liked them actually).
They wanted to debate over a drawing of Darwin I was doing, kept at me for well over two hours, reckoned I wasnt
going to cave in and threw some cash in MY box, he!



Norion* yu really should scale those images down a bit, they force the text to spread all over the page and makes it difficult to read.

i really like your pavement art, never seen such here in finland though do they stay on the pavement for a long time? I guess they wear away pretty quickly... Is it difficult to keep proportions correct on such a large scale?

Depends on the weather, I have watched them wash away in seconds when theres a downpour, if its dry they can be there for a couple of weeks before fading, in fact after a few days of being walked over they look really good as the chalk is forced into the pavers smoothing it all out.

Personally seem to be lucky in having a natural knack for proportion on a large scale, no matter how close I am to a large canvas or whatever it just seems to work out, dont know why, was never trained to do that just seems to work for me. Some folks use a grid or the pavers themselves if they are square and uniform, even seen some using large rolls of paper underlay for carpets, but I think thats cheating a bit as they tend to collect money for the same drawing over and over again just unrolling it and taping it onto the street, I would do these in a few hours and earned every penny I made, its hard work.

Love all the art in this thread, especially the paintings!

Thought I'd share some old sketchbook work of mine maybe I'll scan some more recent work later but I honestly don't draw so much anymore and being on the computer all the time sort of killed any hand skills I had. These were compiled for a website I was building years ago and never completed. Ignore the email addy on the pics (long gone) and most of these are older than the printed date....




































...hopefully someday I'll have time to 3D model some scifi stuff.

Wow! All of these images have been very impressive. As for me, I've been working with Photoshop CS4 for a little over a year now. It is part of my college studies in Web Design and Interactive Media.

For my first showing, this image was created for Design Theory. Today, I've had all kinds of family and friends download and use this image as a background for their desktop.



I've have since cleaned up my computer's hard drive and will have to find the backup disc to show more.

I cant believe the amount of talent in this thread. I cant draw straight line with a ruler. So much quality work in here, this thread should not die.

@Errant AI: Those pics are very very nice. That whole style you could convert into a game if you start doing it in 3d. The guns are amazing.
