AMAZING! The accursed UV Mapping process is over. I really can't wait to see it completed. But, just a question: is it really a good idea to add the lighting of the model in the texture? I'm not really sure how models like this are textured in the end, so I'm probably being paranoid.

Typos, they can't live without me.

Quote: "what kind of map is that?"

i used most of the uv options on this one mate ,thats why it took me so long
Quote: "is it really a good idea to add the lighting of the model in the texture?"

it all depends on the engine its made for mate.

Quote: "how did you do the texture? any special tricks u would like to share?"

its just a basic metal base with a bit of dodge & burn nothing special im afraid.

Like the type that don't have lighting, and rather just set a mood and use lightmaps (or like COD)? Eh, it's not really important right now. On the other hand, your gun looks amazing! Once you're done texturing it, it would be cool to overlay a camo texture like what you used for in you last image, but if not, it still looks great. Have you ever tried 3D special effects? Like the mini gunshot explosion at the end of the barrel, or smoke effects? That would really compliment the in action version of that gun, if you were to make one .

Maybe a bit too much going on around the handle diffuse wise, and those edge highlights are too bold. Other than that im liking it so far

he probably uses a brush and either burns or just sets it to gray and wala

Looks more like dodging to me. Just google up grunge brushes, and use a jitter function to make the scratches' shapes seem random. Also it might be good to have a table available for this stuff, or just search up a metal texture, and then try to copy the shape of scratch for a more realistic looking scratch (or overlay the metal texture, but then that might to into legal issues, and show differences into seperate texture qualities, so it might be better not to overlay). That, and I guess stuff like that are just skills that advance over time.

lol i just use a grey fill in a box, then add noise (speckles) everywhere and use motion blur, then use lighting effects with a bumpmap, all done in gimp. it's quite easy.

I must say Henry, I'm exceedingly jealous of your workflow. It takes me such a long time to make the gun according to all the details, and even longer to UV map. The texture also ruins the work I did for my stuff. Basically, to the whole concept of 3D models, to you they're like a jigsaw puzzle, and to me it's like building a house. Cheers.

Really nice, all i can say is that the small details are too high poly.

Hey henry, I think some of those polies on the grip are not needed.

poly counts 1260

Quote: "all i can say is that the small details are too high poly"

i dont think so any less & they look crappy

Quote: "Hey henry, I think some of those polies on the grip are not needed"

all are used to shape the grip so i dont think so ,that said i always go over my models & optomise them before i uvw map so if there are any i will remove them.
