Nice, does not looks particularly metal though, the orange is coming off more as plastic to me. I think it is because there is not that much specular, and what there is of it is rather glossy, metal is more harsh, and has next to no gloss. Also, im not entirely sure what the grey stuff is, whether its all rust, or leaking fluid, but some more material definition would be nice. I would also add scratches where the lid meets the main barrel, as that is a very likely area that other objects will collide with when being stacked etc.

Nice work.

The quality on your more recent models are AMAZING. I'd really love to see it all compiled into a single game. PS do you ever do normal map bakes?

It would be interesting to see what the church gateway looks like in fpsc.

The only part i would say he used a photo with is the shingles.
The other parts look like something a human could do, especially nonhuman beings that are exceptionally well at texturing and modeling like henry

I don't normally post in your thread, henry ham, because I never have anything to say other than, "Great job, as always! Keep up the super work." But I will this time:

Great job, as always! Keep up the super work.

Quote: " i do now & again bake my models the barrels above are baked."

The text around your church gateway would look super sharp with a normal map baked in. The barrels also look super awesome. It's cool that you went with multiple textures for the one model.

Congrats on your victory at 3d total!

MMOJ, most, if not all of that texture will be photo-sourced.

Nice model though, maybe could have got rid of the insets and used a normal bake on them, is this for any engine?

yes mate i had to use photos for this model.here are the rules

The limits for this week are 2,000 tris and 1024 texture sheet.make it look as near to the photo as possible! As this is how they will be judged

heres one of the ref photos

full set of ref photos can be found here
http://freetextures.3dtotal.com/index.php?iset=1448&pp=

i had to do a lot of editing of the textures in photoshop, you cant just paste a photo on a model if you want it to look any good
the model didnt take very long to make most of the work was in uv mapping & texturing.

yeh they think you can model ,texture , animate & get it fps ready in 5 mins

Quote: "Nice model though, maybe could have got rid of the insets and used a normal bake on them, is this for any engine?"

yeh i could have but i would have had to spend the time modeling them for the high poly anyway then bake them down to a low poly when i had plenty of polys left in my budget it would just have been a waste of time.

this was just made for fun no engine in mind ,but may make it fpsc ready if i find some time.

I don't know why people get so upset about using photosource in there textures. Who cares? What. you think xbox games don't use images for textures. Think again. Using photosource isn't a bad thing. And the model looks ace by the way

1. Looks a bit flat, Also, The bottom cuts off half of the tiles

2. Looks a little like metal with a wooden overlay.

3. Doesn't really fit in. It looks like it is carrying on from the wood but completely changing material. Needs to extrude in more. Also looks flat.

4. Looks very flat.

5. Looks a bit plain. It's just... There. It also looks asif it has a flat color.

6. May just be my eye's but it looks like the grain of the wood changes on the top.

7. Both are exactly the same. I also noticed the other lower pieces are allmost the same.

Appart from that, nice work!
I know i'm giving alot of crits but your standard seems to be slipping.

Sweet. Even if you don't process them for FPSC, or whatever, I could still use most of them...

Any chance of sending me the raw files?

The hands look a little small in the front view, but that could just be me. Is it turbosmoothed or are you going for a higher poly model? I ask because I can see possibly a larger poly affecting the smoothing around the groin area.

It looks like a nice start. The shoulder/pecks/armpit/neck areas look really nice.

i agree but i think its just that angle

yes i turbo smoothed it for the renders but it will be a low poly model in the end, your right about the groin area but i still have a fair bit of work to do in that area so i should get that looking better when i get the legs finished.

Edge flow looks excellent. My only crit is the knuckles, I suggest one more edge loop before the knuckle starts so you don't get any weird polygon stretching when animating.

Oh yah, and sculpting is for noobs. Us real poly modelers know how to do it right.

But you have to low baking in normals, just to get that edge on top of the details. Leaving at high poly is quite annoying, wasted material really.

Dont be silly I could say the low poly guys just dont know how to make a model super realistic

I wouldnt diss on next-gen, well pretty much current gen now, there are many modelling styles, and none should be frowned upon.

Jesus why is everyone so anti-sculpt? In my opinion (No offense) That's why none of you guys are getting any better at what you do! Sculpting is faster than poly-modeling anyway! Sure you can excellent at low-poly modeling and last-gen things like henry is, but you probably won't score a job (I'm talking full time gig here) nearly as easily if you focused on next-gen. Sure, low poly is a good skill to have, but Sculpting and next-gen techniques are a MUST HAVE. And henry, you ever here of sculptris? It's a new, FREE sculpting application, and it's actually very good, way better than most free apps.

Sorry if this offends anyone, just stating my opinion

And Henry, the character looks pretty good, IMO you could loose a couple of edges in the fingers, but other than that good work

its a fantastic model, also to say i think joch was joking or at least thats how it reads to me, henry if you can remove the tri's you'll have a cgi ready base, its that good... and also i have iregularly large forearms and that means that i about match your proportions so unless you want him to have freakish arms, like me , then i'd recommend increasing the size of the hands a tad and then reducing the size of the forearms, just a tad
