Quote: "Not trying to bash here but how is this legal? My Little Pony is a registered TM and you need written permission to even use the name. Plus I don't think you can legaly make a cartoon with out further consent nor would they likely even give that consent to anyone since it would hurt their PR and profit margins. Just wondering how this is legal just saying."
I'm sorry old school, but could you please stop throwing your half-baked opinions on business models around?
Hasbro aren't losing money due to bronydom, they've had their highest capital these last two quarters
ever, if I remember correctly. THey are more than happy to give bronydom freedom to do whatever they want with the IP, because they are extraordinarily clever.
What you fail to realise is that bronydom takes no money from Hasbro. In fact, our numbers boost their channel views on The Hub, meaning they can charge more for advertisement. Some bronies even buy merchandise.
Most importantly of all, the sheer artistic and prolithic nature of bronydom, coupled with the amazing quality of most fan works, make it the most powerful advertising machine they could want. They have the internet drawing, animating, writing and composing for
their IP. You can't buy that kinda workforce.
In return, they've been great to us. In addition to letting us upload episodes to YouTube, (very little revenue is gathered from the show, mostly adverts and merchandising.) They've released Equestria Girls and There's a Pony For That, which are aimed at bronies alot more than the original eight year old girl clientele.
Plus we have creators of the show like Lauren Faust, Wootie, Jayson, Sibsy and the rest at Studio B. They actively talk to the fandom, because they put in all this work, all this love to simply make a good show. They thought the only people who would watch would be ten-year old girls. Suddenly they have groups of grown adults, men and women, pointing out the little nuances in animation and voice. Congratulating things the animator thought would never be noticed, but are glad that someone did.
I'm pretty sure Hasbro shareholders are rubbing their hands, and trying to think of the best way to please what is easily the largest and most successful surprise extra demographic in media history. Studio B are amazed that such a massive fandom has evolved around their work, and love cooperating with it, (Derpy is now canon.) And of course there's us bronies, who get a great show with creators who actually talk o us.
All in all, everyone's a winner here.
