Quote: "Why don't you just store that in the database? If you have enough space, I suggest copying the images over to your own server, as that will give you much more flexibility over what to do with them - and the user will be warned if they try to submit something with the wrong URL."

Yeah, Jess suggested storing the file size on the server as well which is what I think I'll do. I'm not going as far as to actually copy the images onto my server because I think that's a bit excessive and it prevents users from simply modifying the image and reuploading it to their own server to see the changes automatically.

Edit: Made that change so displaying File Info is super-fast now. Also got off my lazy bum and reconfigured my Apache server so now I can do all the modifying and testing on it and the site won't go haywire.

Another two from me...

Both of these are using a high compression ratio, using a medium you can still get a similar image, slight colour change in the blue letters.

<sigh> here's another feeble attempt at making a good banner.

oh... and since many people are doing lots of variatoins of banners, i thought i'd go back and change the font of one i did a while back, cause it didn't match the site. So, here's two variations of my first.

Exeat, mind changing the script so that it remembers the settings between pages? (sort by most recent, for example)

It does remember the settings. It remembers the settings if you close your browser and go back to the page! Do you have cookies enabled? If not then that's probably causing the problem.

EDIT - can you believe that I spelt 'teh' incorrectly the first time round?

EDIT2 - @VanB - Balls. I respectfully withdraw my entry due to potential intellectual property/copyright issues. I think MS patented 'teh', 'codez' and 'book is stupid'.

I honestly thought I went through all the pages - I guess not. Anyway, I'm far too busy to be reading stuff *turns around and stomps off*.

Anyway, las6, what browser are you using? It might be because of that also.

LOL Adr!!

I reckon an animated gif version would be cool, like:

I HATE BOOK
then
BOOK IS STUPID
then
GIMME TEH CODEZ

That would get my vote .

Urgh, looks like quite a few people's banners have gone down. 'Tis a shame, now I'm not sure whether to delete them or not because it may be a temp thing or they might have deleted it on purpose.

Like I knew SpecTre's were working up until now and Giff's aren't working because his host is Geocities and consequently doesn't have hotlinking, I think I may reupload his to my server for the duration of the competition to fix that.

Edit: Well SpecTre's are back up so it looks like Robin and Newbi2Basic are the only ones with a banner down now. I won't delete them though on the off-chance they come back up.

I would suggest that you do not include the name "The game creators" You already have your brand on the site.

Also i suggest that you make a new slogan and include some screenshots from something you are proud of,
Perhaps something like this:

PS: Could really use the new terrain plugin

Hi all,

- IMPORTANT NOTE -

Exeat has been adding some nice admin features to his banner script for me, so I am going to be using it to short-list the banners and you lot will all be using it to place your votes too.

This means if your banner isn't listed on the site below - it won't get shortlisted. If your web host dies and the banner doesn't load, sorry! Suggest you send it to someone here who can host it quickly for you.

Check your banner appears:
http://ep.designex.net/Misc/ApolloAd/index.php

Submit a new banner:
http://ep.designex.net/Misc/ApolloAd/New.php

I will short-list all of the banners this friday (9th July) and once that is done voting will be allowed. You can have until the following friday to vote and that's it - the winners will be announced. I'll then put the new banners into the mix very early in the week following.

That's it - pretty simple really. Go submit if you haven't done so already!

Cheers,

Rich

You can delete the one which doesn't often work (I think its called tgc4.jpg). I've got them hosted somewhere else now, and I resubmitted them the other day (I submitted about seven of them together)
Thanks
Robin

ps.
Preben: good point

I changed one of my entries, removed the TGC text as someone mentioned, it's already on the left. So No. 126 has been replaced with the no text version.

[For some reason I couldn't add a new entry, two text files couldn't be opened or something]

ahm. It seems to be working now.
I'm using IE, btw. (thought it had something to do with the url as I used the .tk one)

The shortlist however, seems messed up. First I got 4 logos, and when checking it later it showed me 2 logos spread on 2 pages... ??

The Short-List shouldn't be showing anything as the competition hasn't ended yet. o_O I think I know what the problem is though so I'll fix it.

Also, that other submitting problem is now fixed.

I hope that you guys like pixel art!
It was all done by hand pixel by pixel. Except for the solid black fill, and the Navy-Blue fill.

It took a lot longer than anticipated. But it was fun to try!
(Being a purist I didn't bother to cut and paste, as I made the pattern on the fly from left to right)

4,547kb
(MS Paint)

I added a little bit more....

Last One!

Darn! I couldn't resist trying to improve it. Maybe I can win the MS-paint award!

Maybe this.. Is there a Halloween Award?

Exeat,
Do I need to submit for the short bus? I mean short list? Or do these postings count.

Anyways, here's a few more submissions.

Yup. And after i made those entries, i decided to give photoshop a rest, and I picked up the vastly more powerful MS paint, and made this wonderful banner.

Yes, it needs to be submitted to my page to be entered into the competition. This Friday, Rich will go through every banner on the page and select the ones he wants to be Short-Listed, after that, everyone will vote on the Short-Listed banners and the ones with the most votes will be selected.

Zen, you'll have to save that as a Jpeg or Gif and reupload it, the rules state only Jpegs and Gif's under 10kb are allowed. Once you've done that then I'll delete your current 3 in one hit.
