Congrats everyone,

"One question that I have reserved asking until the votes were complete. But Is there going to be text added to las 6's win that says Forum? Or will the Banner that says "The Game Creators" on the left have the word Forum added to it? I loved all of Las 6's entries but I think that somewhere on the page it should say Forum or Apollo. I guess it doesn't matter too much; If people don't know there in the forum then it's probably someone who shouldn't be posting anyway!

What's even more amazing is that some of the top 5 had multiple entries, and they sill managed to get enough votes to place. I had a hard time trying to decide between many of Las 6's, Robin's, TheBigBabou's entries. David T & Exeat completely original and brilliant. All were completely amazing!

For example las 6 had entries that placed #1, #9, #11, #13, #23, #26... That's a lot of votes!

Las 6 You are amazing at taking simple geometries to such an abstract futuristic level.

TheBigBabou, Love the lighting and flowing movement in your entries. I too liked the one of yours that placed #10.

Robin, A master of Form, clarity, precision. It was hard to choose just one of your's as each one looks like it fits perfectly on the page. So professional it was hard to believe.

DavidT, love the organic feel of your banners. Each of your entries was original and a different take. amazing.

Exeat, Great work with your banners, It's hard to believe you even had time to work on your own stuff, considering the fact that you probably spent hal of you time fixing my entry mistakes.

Jimmy, love that quirky sense of humor.

Great competition. Glad I participated.

Yup, I liked both of them!

The first one has that organically looking "Jack??" kind of on the lines with Suse Linux. Not sure what the name is for those 3d elliptical thingies?

The one that came in last, was great for many reasons. The colors are bold, nice rounded edges and light reflection. It looks organic and reminded me of the look on Ducatti Motorcycles or some of the japanese bikes. The sahding on the red is great. It looks like wax that melted an conformed to the Ferrari Yellow part.

It's the same with games and apps, I hate anything that I make because I know how rickety it is inside

3d elliptical elements... blobs?

Thanks guys - it was a nice compo - a first one where I had a real chance of actually winning something.

funny thing is, that it wasn't even my favorite among of my entries. I think the compo results wer quite surprising, actually. And as you can see, it was a though one too!
Congrats to Anyone who got shortlisted. Keep in mind that there were over 170 entries overall!

It was difficult even for the people voting. It was hard to only select 3 to vote on.

Rich had a hard job as well. While many of us were suprised at the length of the short list, I would have had a hard time - considering the ammount of talented entries.

Spectre was that your own character in your banner. It would have made a cool mascot?

Hey maybe the next compo after the one that will be mentioned in the news letter, could be to design a DB mascott. I like the pyramid and all, but we really need a character mascott. I tried to draw up a couple using the mask on the pyramid but they all looked like Swiper from Dora the Explorer. (Ummm yeah, I have a 2yro neice). The human one's looked like the Hamburglar from McDonald's.

There's actually a few people that achieved equal 6th place, if you look at the points: Jimmy, TheBigBabou and Preston Chaderton all technically came in equal 6th, there was no particular reason why Jimmy was above the other 2. And I guess because TheBigBabou has already won a prize, he doesn't need to be considered. But Jimmy and Preston both equally deserve it, so I don't know how you want to choose between them.

I didn't win, but I get 3 of my designs displayed as Forum Banners. Sweet, one to add to my list of minor acheivements in life. I'll put it between winning a photo compo, and winning a paper clip holder. (Not winning but being shortlisted is better than being the outright winner of a paper clip holder).

Even after a reset and a Temp internet files clean-out it's still the same!

Are you sure as the above quote from Rich implies all displayed entries will get a prize???

Doesn't say top 5 on the winners board.

@Zen,

ok that makes sense, but it is new, I nver saw that there before
so as I post this it should change...

EDIT: nope, stays on something else...wierd.

EDIT 2: And if you watch it for a bit it seems to refresh itself every 30 sec or so but it never changes - even when there are later d/t posts?...

Is this a bug or a feature?

Ok, I get it now - that green text is renewed when you open your browser and come to this site - It doesn't change/update whilst you are here. Try it, post something, close your browser, return here and you'll see your post listed (if no one else posted in the short time it takes to come back)

EDIT: Yeah, going to another site and coming back doesn't do it - you have to close the browser.

Well it works for me. And I don't have to close my browser. Perhaps something to do with your security settings.

But that's probably because I use Opera. Also while browsing the forum i have it set to automatically relaod the page every 60 seconds.

I think the "Green Text" must be a work in progress. It needs to be clickable IMHO.

CR - it will refresh every 50 seconds or so. It works correctly on Firefox and Opera, IE I think is caching the results for you - how nice of it

Spectre - there were too many entries to give out a prize to all of them. That is why I said the Top 5 will get a prize, but all short-listed would be displayed on the site.

"CR" Are you using IE? If so dump it. If you convert to Opera you will realize how limited IE is. Browsing multiple forums, with automatic refreshe, download manager etc... Mozilla - FireFox is looking good now as well.

Woah, that was weird, it just updated once after skipping many posts so I thought it must have been fixed but now it's not working again. For IE, of course.

Edit: There it goes again! I left my computer for about 20 minutes, came back and it had changed. o_O

Edit 2: Yay, it updated again. Maybe it's just really delayed or something. o_O

Out of interest, how come now the forum banner is just a boring grey effort all the time with like grey steps on the extreme edges. And my laptop has loads of different images being loaded all the time (rather intensive isn't it?).

I have emailed Rich with the html source of the page when that happens.

He should have it sorted soon... Hopefully.

Excellent. Oh, and the only difference between machines is the one with the grey banner was an XP Pro machine, everything else is Home or 9X. Also, showing a different graphic each time is surely a bit of a hit on your bandwidth isn't it? Esp for dial up
