Developer: rolfy

Story
You play as Owen Derron, raised by a friendly woodcutter from childhood after your parents were killed by soldiers of the evil Lord Marek.
Swearing revenge for this dark deed you joined the Order of Lewanna a secret agency in the service of the Queen Isibus ruler of Eldora, sworn to protect the realm from the dark forces which constantly harries and attacks the borders of the Land.
Lord Marek has abducted the Queen's youngest cousin, the Lady Kylia, for his evil purpose to destroy the Land once and for all.As he masses his forces and darker beings for the final onslaught he needs the Wakanda (inner magical power) he can only acquire this by performing the ritual of Than during which he will slay Kylia.
Your mission,if you accept it, will be to collect the seven key's of Taru, hidden and guarded by dark creatures, which will gain entrance to Marek's tower, slay the Dark Lord and free the maiden.

Background:
Eldora is a project inspired by the many users on the FPSC forums who have the ability to think outside of the box and not be put off by the limitations of the engine. To many this game may appear to be eye candy, but it is so much more than that, art is my profession it is what I do best and so yes it is very visual, but it is also very innovative due to the fact that I had assistance or gleaned info from some of the posts found on these boards.
Very early on in the development of this game I teamed up with s4real and with his skill and knowledge was able to achieve many of the things that make this game more than just a nice looking package.
My good friend Alan Craig gave permission for his operatic music score to be used in the game and this tied the whole thing together.
It should never be the intention when creating a game to have the player stop and think 'how was that done' but in this case it was developed for the users of FPSC to inspire and provoke interest, it was never intended to be a commercial game.
Its not perfect and much of the stuff under the hood is not immediately apparent it was also made when mods and such were not so available, it is pure vanilla FPSC made with hard work and a lot of research but mostly a love of creating something that little bit different.

I can honestly say, based on those pics, you have created quite possibly the most beautiful game ive ever seen made with FPSC, shows real creativity, effort and originality. I dont even know what its about but i am already excited for the final release.

Is it commercial? if so im willing to buy it

Wonderful, you have to tell me how you create those massive environments. I was just wondering, what would the weapons be cuz this looks medievel and at that time there were no guns but as the creater is limited to fps and only guns look better in it, so... just was wondering what would be the weapons, some magical powers would be cool adding that spice you need in your game . Anyways this is just marvelous.

I learnt a lot, so i changed my name.

Its great to see something original, I look forward to see this, Ill bookmark this one

Just a few notes.
Id break those rocks up with a more textured map so it looks less low poly.

On the names, a little too much fantasy long winded names, people switch off when they hear too much of windiathlamo or the whittita tribe from the nation of zemararda and her swrord of grandullana lightning power, all those made up words are a turn of, I know you cant use names like kevin and wayne, but try and use as little of these made up words as possible, most fantasy takes from real life some what to give them familiarity, or the names are symbolic.

example
Luke Skywalker.
Luke is a word meaning Sun, so Luke skywalker means the sun moving across the sky, ie the sun god, the light of the world, the saviour.

Darth Vader,
Dark Vader, Dark Farther.

Lord of the Rings.
Sauron.
Sour one.
sore one

The Tolkien world is based on our own world with the naming of things, for example the shires is a word used in the UK, Example Derbyshire, Lancashire etc.

So these are things to bare in mind when making a fantasy game so one doesn't turn the audience off with silly names

Fallen one.
Names are mostly from mystical Celtic lore.

Owen-young warrior
Derron-great
ELdora-The golden land, this is where Eldorado comes from.(may be Spanish in origin)
Isibus-something beautiful
Marek-dark lord
Lamya-dark
Kylia-lovely
Lewanna-the moon
Orea-mountains
Taru-legend
Than-death
Wakanda-inner magical power

Being a Celt myself,I did research all this and made nothing up except the story itself.

holy cow! I must wonder though why grace FPSC with this level of work? Why not move up to something more suitable like Torque? I'm not complaining and in fact I hope you stay with FPSC but my curiosity is is killing me

Thanks again everyone.

Slayer,
FPSC suits me because of the ease of use as I am no coder/scripter.I also really like a lot of the folks on these forums and I have learned so much about game creation in the short time I have been here and wouldn't leave.
It may be that another engine would run the game better, but like most folks here as an individual the challenge is to create something from nothing, and FPSC is really suited to any indie development.
Even if I do move onto another engine I will most likely still hang around here.
I most likely will not have to move on as we will soon have x10 and this will be a big leap forward,I also believe with future development that DBP and FPSC will be able to compete with any of the big guy's.
This is my favourite hobby.
best rolfy

Keith,I intend to create traps and puzzles,I'll try to do most of these myself, but I may have to ask for help with scripting from some of the wizards on these forums for these.

The game set-up reminds me of a cross between RuneScape and Oblivion.

This is Mad-Man. Copy Mad-Man into your sig so he can rule the FPSC boards. How to do it? }+:+)+the message after the smiley=domination!

Slayer_2,
the pic above is a max render of the modeling before exporting to FPSC,it's blurry because it's jpg,I would normally render a larger pic before reducing when converting to jpg but on this occasion just rendered actual size, hence the blur.
Hope the terrain works o.k. for you, some folks seem to have problems.

Rolfy this stuff is amazing.m I'm also surprised that your fps is about 30-32 (though im not completely aware of fpsc's threshold of good-to-bad fps)

When i first saw the waterfall screenshot i thought it was mount rushmore

The sad fact is that i can read script, but i just cant write it.

this is just my 2 cents but, that head-or in perticular everthing in that pic looks low poly. (edit)

Is there mesh smoothing in fpsc, I notice sometimes when things look a bit edgy, the last pic would look nicer if mesh smoothing was used, that way it looks less low poly, though Im not sure if fpsc supports smoothing of the edges.

The framerate in FPSC is capped at 33fps

Quote: "that head-or in perticular everthing in that pic looks low poly."

I agree its a little low poly,I can still go back to the modeling stage and add some more with smoothing, kept it low till I see how it runs in-game,thanks.
There is no smoothing in FPSC that I know of.

I don't mean the poly count, I mean the smoothing, I forget its proper name, you can apply smoothing to a model, I don't mean increase its polycount, smoothing smooths the edges, makes them less faceted, it doesn't add more polys.

Rolfy, I have been watching the different demos and games that people have been working on. I admire everyones work, but with yours, you said that you use Max for your landscapes, then convert them over to FPSC to use in your games. I do a lot of arkwork and I use Bryce 6.1 right now, I was wondering if you have ever used Bryce or know of it. I am going to be buying FPSC next week and after getting into the level designing a bit, I am going to try the same type of designing in Bryce and try to convert them to FPSC. I have been designing game levels with other game engines for a long time, but the FPSC looks to also be a great game engine to create with. Again your design work is very, very good and after I start creating some demos, I hope that I can do some good creations and maybe converse on some gaming ideas.

The bryce models will be too high poly, so you will have to reduce them, last i checked bryce did have that function, but outside 3d progams and manual editing will be better to get the polys down.
