Thanks for the birthday wishes.

I like these monsters your doing Cheese Cake, they are simple but effective, I think its a good statagy to pick a simple idea or concept then do it very well, I think its a good way to success, I think of John Carpenter films when I think of this, they are simple ideas but done as well as they can, and they work.

You could sell monsters like these, I invested in Mudbox a while back and these forms would be great to test out in it to make the high poly normals,

(by the way a good tool for your normal maps is crazybump
http://www.crazybump.com/
its free as well, best tool I've seen for the job)

as long as the UVs are good and it has the animations, thats all I require of characters, one can always work into them and modify them for what you need.

Just a note on the monsters, some angles look a bit sharp, id either lessen the angle or add a couple of polys, it wouldn't effect performance to add a few just to avoid sharp angles.

I'm going to keep watching this thread with interest.

Okey i think this will answer the most questions.

Everything that you see here will eventually be released.

The characters, will be released for a cost.(not much)
And the arena....static models, will be released for free.

I am currently working on a interior of a church.
I already have done the benches, the sideways, and some other things.

The free stuff will be compiled into 1 HUGE pack.
And uploaded on Filefront (i think).

The free pack will contain untill now:
Arena(models), Church(models), desert(models), forest(models), city(models), 1 or 2 characters, and maybe more.

The purpose of this pack is.....
To make the biggest pack available for FPSC (FREE).

So untill then, i'll just keep posting pics of characters.
And of the free pack.

---EDIT---
Sorry Fallen one, i was typing when you made your post.
Thanks for the idea for using Crazybump.
I already downloaded it.
As for mudbox....Oleg already convinced me to try it.
And as for the sharp edges etc...i know, you are right.
I'll have to edit them a little.
But a major thanks! For comparing these to Carpenters work.
And because its your birthday, which one do you like the most?
I'll send that one by email for free!

Thanks again mate!

Cheers,
Cheese Cake.

Just a not on the character with the pipes, its best to avoid, or lessen horizontal planes, it makes low poly characters look boxy, he looks like he is wearing shorts, id put some edges up and make it look more pant like, by that I mean pull the edges up on the outer side, that way he can be skinned like he has a metal harness pants thing on, rather than it being so boxy, also move a few edges up on his boots and knee pads, the lines just come straight across, It just adds more interest, perhaps beef him up a bit, add a point of entry on his chest pipes, just a simple hexagon will do, perhaps a few things sticking out of his armour, like tech things, or even more pipes on him, hope you don't mind the crits, I'm an old poster from the polycount forums so Its kind of second nature to add points to make things work even better.

Fantastic, souless one from the first page is my favorite, do you need my email?

Im going to make a game called, Kill TV, I shall buy all these monsters, they will fit it perfectly, the souless character I will re skin how my minds eye sees him, Kill TV will be a commercial game, mark my words, the site is going up soon, I have free time now I have my projects done and Im looking forward to getting a game out with fpsc, in the past my commercial games have been held by high cost due to game engine prices and publishers being stupid over the money, but with fpsc, hell I own the rights to use the engine, I can make what I want, fantastic, one is truly independent, its great to be free that way after all the BS I've had to put up with in the past. I've been watching what people have been doing with fpsc from the side lines just busting to get in and show what I can do, it will be great to join the other fpsc users and make my own contributions with what fpsc allows us developers to do at indie prices that we can afford ourselves, and that is truly independent game making.

this is looking great, kind of reminds me of doom with the teeth and guts and stuff, you should make a creature that runs around on four legs, maby something that looks like a spider only its not a spider, there woul be some charectors you could make

How about a creature that lumbers round with a massive cone like spike protruding from it's neck (pointy bit face down) Kinda like in Hot Fuzz. And make it appear as if he's swaying under the weight of it.

The Pus in Boots biography; "My awesome-tastic ego", is out now!

i want to game.
Thanks, about the normal map....it does look good in 3ds,
but in FPSC its not even comparable with the 3ds one.
So, i have to wait for x10 to get the best out of the normal maps.

General powell11.
Like the idea! But to bad i cant make it.(yeah the model maybe)
For that i have to make my own biped, and animations.
And that would be very hard for me since i dont know how to do that.

Pus In Boots.
I'll see what i can do...
But it would take a while when its done, since i am also
modeling some custom characters.

If you said you're goal is to make the biggest FPSC pack, you might want to up the quantity, Underside and DarkFact have a pretty big freebie pack coming along....

Course I'd be perfectly satisfied with a character or two

EDIT: Or anything, for that matter

The "Borduack" character.....looks great. His mouth surprised me though. It seems like that characters mouth would have stood out more. You know? I think it might be the texture because without the texture the mouth looks scary but with the texture it kind of gets lost. You may have been going for that effect and I apologize if I have stepped on your toes. You know I love your work. Keep it up.

AOTD Creator.
The Arena will be for free.
Including the blood stains, and models that where in it.

Except for the characters.
Those will probably for go up for sale.

Airslide.
If you saw my previous post, then you know that the Arena is
just a small part of the pack.
And its still W.I.P, i have to edit a few things.
Also will make a few things for it.
And right now i am working on some custom characters.

Also this pack, will be divided into certain themes.
But they all will be compiled into 1 big pack.

The Arena was the first theme,
Right now the Church will be the second theme,
And i am also working on a Office theme.
But as i am modeling and texturing, i am still seeing some
possible good themes that could fit into this pack.
So maybe when i am done with the Church and Office.
I'll probably have 2 themes extra that will go for free with it.
(or more)

But i am not competing against anyone.
So if they want to make the biggest pack (or someone else)
then its fine by me.
I still stick with the main themes, and will not overdo the models.
Or make 100 extra models for the pack.

drew4663.
Thanks!
Hmmmm well for the mouth....actually dont know.
It looks fine by me, maybe could do a variation of that.
But right now i think this one looks cool.
Thank you for posting some tips and ideas!

Cheese Cake.

Sounds good cheese, one other question. What program do you use for the creation of character models, and what other programs do you use? Im going to try to make some of my own and share with the FPS Commuinity. Thanks for the response for my first question, Have a nice day.

hey uh cheescake
i think your models are really awsome, like really really really cool
maybe you could make a large one like a boss, or a demon monster or something
i think you have a lot of talent and potential

ps the only charecter i think needs improvment is that yellowish on, the one with spike things instead of feet, for some reason it looks too "different than the others...blander...i think it would be better having actuall feet, and to have the grayish skin like the others, but besides that theyre all amazing

pps. i dont its possible, but it would be totally the best if you could make places where they would get hurt when hit, ex: if hit inside the mouth, head, or other body parts

ppps. (wow i need to stop talking (sorry)) yea so i just wanted to end this message saying, that your work is awsome and i hope you make many more models

Thanks! And i dont know when it will be ready....
Or how much it would cost.
And thanks! Hope you have a great day as well.

i want to game.
Heh Nahh its fine by me that people keep on asking.
But thanks for keeping eye for that.

john schwarcz.
Well first thanks! And second, i probably will make some
more bossy types of enemies. Which can be easily scaled by others.
And about the yellow character, i thought the same way you did.
But i already fixed it.
And as for the spikes as feets, i think they will remain the way
they are.
And as for the hurt body parts, thats impossible in FPSC.
I would like to do it, but i cant.
And thanks again.

Well, i have been playing Doom 3 last day.
And i must say, that the levels where highly detailed.
Nothing like FPSC, so i came up with this idea.
For making entities in the pack that will bring these details in FPSC.
For the arena it wont be that much, but for the office.
It will be very much, like all kinds of machinery. (copy-machines, computers, etc etc)
But also.....wires etc.., it seems that the smaller entities can give a FPS a whole new life.
And i am thinking of making a new theme, Sci-fi!
Inspired by Doom 3, of course the texturing would be the hardest thing to do for sci-fi.
But i hope i can come up with something.

Well anyway, i hope i can post some screenies this week!
Cause i cant today, school and then work and then its already late.

And also sorry Black Terror for the custom models.
I'll be doing them someday, but school and my job goes first.
But i promise i'll make some models extra.

Cheers,
Cheese Cake. (quite long post)

So, what of the characters? I want to see "Revsaw" (what I like to call it) and the progress on him if any. And by the way Doom 3 is awsome isn't it? It's one of my fav. games for not just the storyline, but the perfectly executed Sci-Fi theme and the visuals!
The graphics might not be next-gen, but it's about number 3 in my list, right after Gears of War and Halo 3!

Well back on topic... wish to see your work soon!

ASTEK.
Then "Revsaw" will be his name.
But its coming out pretty nicely.
What a kind of problem is to get the 2 hands on 1 weapon.
Its still having some issues.
Oh and by the way, i made some reference drawings. (or concepts how you like to call it)
And i had some brilliant ideas for variations.
Some for different weapons.(axe, pitchfork, arm i know kind of weird, hammer etc..)
And 1 with a bag over his head.
Which would look sick! In a nasty Texas Chainsaw kind of way.
So if everything comes out they way the progress is doing now.
I think this will be better then "Borduack" or any model static or dynamic that i have done!

dark 3d game maker.
Me too! And thanks, glad you liked them!
Will post some screenshots of "Revsaw" soon.
And then you'll truly see a masterpiece.
(of course Jon's, Bond1's, OLEG's, Butters's, Disturbing's [placeyournamehere] are much better)

Ross tra damus.
Well i hope i can come up with some even better models then "Borduack".
Cause "Revsaw" wouldnt be released since it is a custom model for ASTEK.
And thanks! glad you liked them! Its great to hear it from a great artist.

Sorry that i havent updated my thread with screenies,
but hopefully i can fix a few screenies soon.
Since this is quite of a busy time lately, with school, job, custom work etc etc...
Its hard to make my own models. (or custom one's)

Cheers,

I have emailed Astek, and will send the Corpse Eater today.
Also when will you come online?
Need to talk to you about some stuff.

Will da gamr.
Yep i use 3ds.

i want to game.
Thanks for clearing some things up.

Well i have an update!
This is the model for Astek.
"Revsaw", he is still W.I.P.
But due to some glitches i had to delete the other
and had to edit the model itself a little.
I emailed Astek about this, but for the ones that are a bit curious.
Astek wanted him to hold the chainsaw with 2 hands.
But the problem was, when i did that the animations where all screwed up.
So i had to edit the models. (oh chainsaw needs to be modeled aswell)

As you can see, he also have a bag for his head.
Which will be part of the model. But if i want to delete the bag then
I'll do this by alpha mapping.
Also i made a little variation already. A "Butcher".
Anyway hope you all like it...

With bag.

If it wasnt for you, i wouldnt even had the chance to begin on the texture.

Also Astek, i know this isnt the type of character you wanted...
Since this is a farmer kind of character.
But i'll begin on the right one as quickly as possible!
Anyway, i have a butcher as variation, and a professor, and one with a different style of clothes.
You'll also get the original one which you wanted, and the
one on the screenie.
So together they are 5 different meshes, all with different textures.
And texture variations, for example:
Normal, (on the screenie)
Gory,
Very gory.
But i am also thinking of a new texture for this one.
The inmate, which i hope it comes out well.

Well anyway, tell me what you think.

And hope you all like the new one.

Cheers,
Cheese Cake.
