Cheese I've been looking on some UT3 models, they are made originally by a ton of polys to have the most detail then they are reduced to 5000-7000 polys and the normal maps are applied. They look almost the same as the original model and get game ready

I have to try one of your models soon!

Troy Chambers.
i didnt get your mail.
Could you send it again?

Leaning Objects To The Side.
thanks glad you liked it!

Errant AI.
Thanks man! Glad you liked it!

alimpo83.
Yeah i am still thinking about, making models in Mudbox...
And after that, apply a normal map made from the high-poly version.

Quote: "I have to try one of your models soon!"

Well, they arent done yet.
I wish they were.
Still have to export the older models with the right biped.
And also have to make the remakes, with textures.
After that, i have to create some newer models...
Also have to make several textures for each model.
So, it could take a long time.

Anyway, hope to post some screenies soon!

So stay tuned!

Cheers,
Cheese Cake.

Cheese Cake, I just saw these updates. It's excellent man! Fantastic work!
The Berserker is just WORLD CLASS! It's a pity you have to stick to low poly...
Anyway, keep the great work up Cheese!

Ice Cube.
Well hopefully the outcome will be like the normal maps that
Jon and Bond1 creates!
But still have to tweak the model itself a bit...
And after that, redo the high-poly model.

Astek.
Hey sorry to hear man!
I'll send the models as soon as possible!
And, when the pack is finished you still got your deal!

Dan the man.
With a modeling program...
there are lots of different ones, if i were you i should download
blender (free) and start on some basic tutorials.
Also learn how to make textures, and download a program called:
Gimp. (also free) And again, just follow the basic tuts..
After lots of work, you develop your own methods.
In mix with the tuts, begin some harder stuff to model and texture.
And again, you'll learn new methods, and you'll see your progress
compared to your older models.

Well, thats the story for now.

Troy Chambers.
Got it! Will send you an email back.

Cheers,
Cheese Cake.

Sorry little bump.

Well i finally exported a normal map with Mudbox (trial).
And!....

It doesnt look good.
I can create better textures with Crazy bump.

In mudbox it looks all fine and such...
but finally when the normal map is exported it looks like nothing.
Here is a screenie!

I am also thinking about using Photoshop.
Since Crazy Bump doesnt let people use normal maps created
with Crazy Bump after a certain date...
If someone wants to use it, they would have to buy it.

Cheers,
Cheese Cake.

perhaps you should ask, the 2 fellas that worked on dx10 models how they did theirs as they worked pretty much how they looked in their app.

Dont know what color it will be yet.
Also your other post, i dont quite understand what you mean....?

fallen one.
Yeah good idea, but i thought Jon is using Zbrush.
So maybe Bond1 uses Mudbox....but dont know, have to ask.

i want to game.
Well thats just a small problem.
The biggest problem is....it doesnt export it in the right way...
Look at Jon's & Bond1's work in the x10 thread.
They almost look identical to the high poly models.

This model is just like every regular model, and a normal map
that looks like it came straight out of photoshop.(nvidia filter)

It doesnt calculate the shapes, and it doesnt create every "bump"
from the high poly version.
I mean look at the arms, its like a piece of cloth he is wearing.
Or at the stomach, its almost flat.

(by the way, i dont mean this harsh or such)

Anyway, i should ask Bond1 or Jon if they can help me out.
Maybe i dont exported it with the right settings.
Or maybe i was doing something else wrong.
I hope so, cause i would love to get an effect like they have
with their normal maps.

Cheese,
Cheese Cake.

Thanks!

Little progress without screenie!

Well i began the texture on the Berserker.
Looks quite nice (texture size 1024x1024)...
But it still needs a lot of details.
Basically i drawed the base for the texture.

The skin color is a bit grey-ish / blue-ish.
And i am thinking of putting some spots on him...
On certain areas: Shoulders, Upperback, Knees, Hands.
Also, i want to give him some scars.

The base line for the muscles is already complete.
But now it looks to blury.

I will follow some tutorials for texturing organic creatures.
And hope after that, that it would certainly create that effect
for this creature!

Cant continue on these models on this day...
Since i have to go to school, and after that i have to go to work.
So pretty busy day...
But! I'll be sure when my next progress will be an ingame screenie
of the Berserker!

Cheers,
Cheese Cake.

if you dont sort the other problem out, using mudbox will have been pointless, you may as well just applied some tex in crazy bump.

Why would it been pointless? I never used Mudbox, and i always
wondered how it worked.

And Crazy Bump isnt free anymore...
You would have to buy a license for it, if you want to use it.

And also i still need to email Bond1 if he knows the right settings.

Hey Cheese Cake,

How many polys would you say are in a good FPSC character model?

And does anybody know the poly count of the SAS trooper in Model Pack 1?

Sorry for getting off topic...

Gizmoguy.
Thanks man glad you liked it!
But as for the release date....hmmmm honestly dont know yet...
I am making several packs instead of one...
so i am hoping when they are ready for release, that i would at least
have 3 packs available...

Inspire.
Hmmm, i would go for the 1500 to 2200...
But that really depends on the complicity of the character...
Lets say, you want a regular civilian...
Than i would say, that 1500 to 1750 polycount is good!
But for a more complicated character like: Monster, Robotic...
Than it would depend, a monster with horns and a different anatomy
would have a 2000 to 2200 polycount.

So you can devide them in certain themes.
Human like creature: 1500-1750. (civilian)
Human/swat like creature: 1750-2150. (with accessory, and stuff)
Monster like creature: 1750-2150. (human anatomty and some horns)
Monster like creature: 2000-2500. (Different anatomy and horns)

Hope that helped...

Hey Cheese Cake, I was wondering if you would take two requests for me.

If you've ever played PREY on the Xbox 360, you know about the ghostly kids you face. I need a couple ghostly kids. Pretty much make them normal, maybe a few scars and a bit of blood, not much though. Make it like, i don't know, 90-95% transperent. But have their eyes dead white, and if you can, make the eyes glow a little bit. So like, one boy child, one girl child.

If you can, thanks ahead.

If not, I understand.

Troy Chambers & fallen one.
Would you please stay on-topic!

Nah just joking...but!

Troy Chambers....if you could find a model...with the license..
Than i will reduce it for you, add a biped, and texture it for you...

Cause it isnt a bad idea...
But i dont have that much time to create all kinds of characters...
As i am working on several packs...all in a different themes.
So this would save a lot of time.

OK, I'll try to find one and e-mail it too you. But I don't really know where to look, i guess i'll just search it in ask.com

EDIT: I found this website that has ghostly humanoids, I didn't see any child ghosts in the screens but there may be a short ghost human in there that would work as a child if there was a retexture.
Here is the site http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Hakpaks.Detail&id=1236.

I don't know if this will be much help but it's all I got right now.

I looked at the link...
It was a very basic model...dont know where the download is..
And i dont think it can be used for any other projects...or use
in a commercial way...

halospree.
Thanks dude! Glad you liked it!

john schwarcz.
Thanks man!
But i dont know when i am done...
As for the new monsters...i am currently working on some scenery.
Static models segments etc..for the free-pack.

I am not working on the characters right now...cause if i will..
I know for sure that i will lose ideas...and inspiration.

So this is a sort of time-out...
Of course, i will be creating the characters later on..

Nice work cheese cake! I love how demented your characters look! It is so...disturbed!

My only tip is to maybe change the hand style for some of your demons. They look too...well, formed together, if you know what I mean? Be creative with the hands, just seems a bit out-of-place for demons. But, I'm not one to judge.

I second that, we need horror stuff, I posted about this in the model packs ideas sticky thing, Id like to see torture chamber stuff, items one might see in those hellraiser films, objects that would be found in hell. You have a natuaral talent for these type of subject matters, Id love to see a pack on that theme.

john schwarcz.
That was my plan....more blood overlays.
Corpes...in all kinds of poses etc.

fallen one.
That also was a plan! but first i need to complete the current
theme of scenery: Urban.

After that, i'll do the horror etc..
