lol the way i start is to find as many high quality ref pics as i can before i start modeling.i then use 1 or 2 as reference images in my 3d app ,then when the model is finished i build my texture from the ref pics save it as a psd file then go back into max & uv my model to the texture file laying out my uvs over the seperate parts of the texture.i test render often to see how its looking & go back & move any verts that cause stretching .if need be i can go back into ps & edit the texture on the fly save it & its updated in max.

this works best for basic low poly models so give it a try .

hope this helps

Texturing is excellent as always,
I do have a question, how have you rendered the wirframe on the model?, The only edged faces option i can find is the 'Force wireframe on the render settings. Is it an option on the material settings?
This has been bugging me recently since everyone has made these fancy renders and well mine suck lol. I know how to set up AO (2-3 omnis + target)

thxs for any help.

Nice stuff you have there, how about making a tutorial about it?

ok so I'd have to agree with everyone, you have amazing skill... but I'm also half-asleep and kinda drank too much water, and nearly reached into my monitor to open that door and use the portopotty. It's a very good thing I'm not totally sleepy yet.

Now I'd better run, before I get more sleepy and use the nonexistent facility...

Edit: I found a real bathroom in time... thanks for trying to help tho

great models Henry, and I am curious about what program you use to model.

Why remake a famous game when you could create your own?

Very nice models and detail. Though as a personal preference, I wouldn't have added some of the finer detail in your models that you couldn't do in texture.

The models are great none-the-less.

Real nice stuff! How long did it take you to learn how to texture like that? (Personally I like the fact that you made all this amazing stuff with so little polys, I think the nice textures and (if I'm not mistaken) normal maps give your models that great look!

I know how you feel, except without the prior experience. I only know how to make a few textures. Do you use photoshop or gimp by any chance?

/me is impressed with your texturing skills. I am jealous. I love the photo-realism that you get from your renders as well. Love the skip and the pistol also as well!

cs2 huh? I have cs3, but I know so little about it. Tell me, does texturing with photoshop use the texturizer filter often? I'd imagine so for patterns that you want in textures .

Excellent work mate Do you have a sellers account on the TGC store? you should sell models on there, they would definetly sell like hotcakes. (Assuming that hotcakes actually do sell really well and fast..i dont know if they do )

Hey, about your pistol. When I look at this picture of it: If you look carefully at the barrel, the decorations look 3D. How'd you do that? I know a normal map can't make the texture actually bump out of the model, because they only make the lighting effect the texture...

yep i have one artist name henry ham

SJH the texture on that gun were made from a few photos i found on the net .they were high quality images so had plenty of detail in them after i finished the basic texture layout i just copyed the final texture to a new layer sharpened it & set it to overlay .the rest was done with lighting in max.

I mean like this: You can notice the bump of the decorations. How'd you get that effect? A normal map doesn't bump a texture out, so I'm a bit curious .

like i said above mate there is no secret it just came out that way.no bump map was used just high res texture & good lighting in max for the render.the lines you see are just brown lines with a few lighter highlights along them.

Ohh. And btw, I checked out your models in TGC models. Not bad, but compared to the ones you're making now, not so well. The models you're making now should be posted there, now those are good!

Your early efforts are still better than mine! . Just out of curiosity, why are you making the models, practice, or are they going to be used someday? If its just practice I seriously recommend putting them on TGC store, like DarkOwen said:

they are for games and stuff but when i do animations its easier to use a bump map then a normal map. cause i don't need to UV map it to get a good look with a bump map.

Yeah but do they still use them? Do they make a game lag as much as a normal map etc? Or are they the same?
