Turns out a priority queue is pretty straightforward. It's just a heap that sorts on priority rather than data.

Alright, I just became extremely concerned when wikipedia began to look like the mobile version on my desktop -- then I realized that the URL had specified mobile version. I was utterly disgusted with wikipedia for a bit there.

I love this thread.

----------------------------

Just played GTA V with our sisters for the first time. Needless to say they spent AGES making their characters and then we seriously regretted taking them to Ponsonby's Eventually we managed to get them to follow us to the top of that really tall mountain and then Mum and Dad came home (and since they wouldn't really approve of us playing GTA V together we had to stop). On Tuesday Mum and Dad will be going away for several days, so GTA V will rule once more!

Now to go watch the latest episode of Big Bang and eat noodles

Ah, I just realized, you haven't any badges! For being here 8 years, a well behaved and active and productive member, that's surprising!

I should establish an organization, called AIFA (Association for the Increase of Forum Activity). I should also buy a boat. I am a cat.

Bloody damn, I typed the letter i didn't I? Ah well, too late in the day to fix that.

Depends what Yoda's actually done. Have a look at the badges page and if you reckon you fit the requirements of one of the badges contact Rick (or one of the mods) and he'll give it to you.

RIGHT! Now to go write my own 3D A* pathfinding algorithm since it's easier to understand than I expected!

Agh, Wix's site editor is ridiculous sometimes. Say you have a text box, and you have set the text inside to a size of 12; the default text size in Wix's text boxes is 15. When you go to edit that text box of yours, while it goes into edit mode, there is a moment where it forgets that your text was smaller than default, and it resizes the text to 15. Only for a short moment though, then it goes back to the size you set, and you're ready to edit. Problem is, when the text resizes for that instant, it expands the text box a bunch to accommodate, and that pushes everything on the site below the box down. When the text reverts to the proper size, the text box stays enlarged and everything below the text box remains pushed down. Just drag select everything and move it back, right? Nope! There is no drag select option, and you have to manually shift-click on each individual object you want to select. When you do move multiple objects at once, everything is moved in increments of like 3 or 4 pixels, instead of 1, so it's nearly impossible to realign everything properly. All because you edited a text box. Really bad design if you ask me.

That would be the obvious choice but as much as I adore the tech mods in Minecraft (and have some great ideas for mods) I want to make something entirely separate from MC. Plus I have no clue how to start with modding Minecraft. Maybe I should learn one day.

I'll say. That'd be enough for me to switch to a different host/editor.

Integrating A* pathfinding with my current code is proving more difficult than originally expected. Well, not really difficult, rather messier. Gonna have to clean and refactor some bits me thinks.

Random screenshot of unfinished, about-to-be-redesigned code because I like showing off random bits of code:

Does anybody have experience with Qt for Android/iOS?
What exactly can you create with it? How easy is it to create interfaces etc? I want to make a messaging app (similar to Kik/WhatsApp/FB Messenger/Snapchat etc) for the purpose of learning mobile coding. I only have experience coding games so far so I want to expand my skill set lol.
Is Qt capable to doing this?

Well, it takes advantage of the phone's built-in vibrator motor...

(In other words, no, I have no experience with Qt on mobile... or any platform for that matter)

---------------------

Strongly considering taking the time to fully update Placement Editor Professional. It's been around since late 2011/early 2012 and hasn't been updated since 2013. It was never really finished, either. Unfortunately a preliminary compile in the latest AGK2 shows tonnes of errors, so it may take a bit of fixing. It is, after all, my signature image, and it's basically useless since the example loader code probably won't even compile. Dunno, have to see how much time I get.

Does anyone else draw pictures in Paint when they're designing a complicated new system in their project? I frequently find that being able to visualise the system is necessary to create it code. Here's an example of one I just made to solidify the idea in my head for how to integrate the pathfinding algorithm:

I haven't really done anything badge-worthy, and quite honestly I don't mind the lack of badges. I mean, I would like an AppGameKit Developer badge at some point, but I have to make and successfully release a game first.

I will at some point, but right now I'm putting all my programming into a game idea I have had for years. It's still in massive pre-production, I have to get the storyline figure out and figure out how I want the characters to work. It will be very reminiscent of 3D platformers like Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day - even down to the art style.

This is actually why I bought ProBuilder for Unity, so that I could build some mock-up levels. Haven't done that yet but I will soon, once I find the time.

I've never used Qt on mobile, but I've done plenty on desktop. The only difference that I can tell is that it uses Qt Quick instead of C++. You'd have to look up how to do it in mobile, but C++ Qt is awesome to work with compared to most other GUI frameworks(GTK, Win32).

ACBD. I do not understand this questionnaire.

Quote: "Also, there are to many images in this page, scrolling takes so long"

?? There's maybe one semi-big image. You must not have experienced the Posting Comp in days past...

----------------------------

Anyone know how to properly rewind a cord-retracting spring on an Electrolux Ultrasilencer vacuum cleaner? I pulled it apart yesterday to find out why it wasn't turning on (turns out it was the wall plug itself - luckily we had a DIY extension lead plug to replace it with) and accidentally released the spring (d'oh!). I managed to get the spring back into place but I have no idea how it was wound and it doesn't seem to work properly the way I've put it back. Mum and Dad didn't know if I'd be able to fix the vacuum cleaner and it was falling apart anyway so on their way back from their week-long "holiday" they bought a new one, so fixing the retracting mechanism isn't high-priority.

----------------------------

In addition to "fixing" the vacuum cleaner, over the past couple of days I also repaired our Honda CT200 bike. Its starter motor had stopped working, and I discovered there was severe corrosion around one side of the battery. Cleaned it all out and replaced the ancient, corroded fuse wire with a blade fuse and it's all working fine again. Then I fixed the park brake (just a clippy lever thing that holds the front brakes on) and re-bushed the left footpeg so that it wasn't so squishy your foot would slip off constantly. Much nicer to ride now. My next project will be finding out if I can grease the starter motor to reduce some of the awful clackety noises that it makes when it fails to start. OH and we re-repaired the leaky fuel tank and did it properly this time with real epoxy stuff.

Hahaha lol yeah you should have!

Hhhh..... I 'spose I had better go and strip the Honda CT200 down to find out why it's making that awful clonking noise.... and see if I can't check the valve clearances, timing chain and starter motor throw-in mechanism (whatever that's called) while I'm there...

It's fitting for it to make clonking noises, considering your name is Clonkex. *sly smile*

Speaking of maintenance and taking things apart, my dad just finished up replacing the power steering pump on our 2008 Saturn Vue. The steering assist had gone away, and buying a refurbished pump was about 300 dollars cheaper than getting it done at a shop, so he undertook the maneuver himself. The engine is designed oddly; in order to get the front belt off (which drives pretty much everything; the alternator, AC, steering, coolant, the normal stuff), you have to completely remove the starboard engine mount. The engine's weight is supported fully by the mounts, so he had to put a jack under the engine to hold it. That then allowed the belt to come off (which we later found unnecessary, although he put on a new one after), and then the steering pump's pulley was able to come off (which was necessary to remove the pump). When my dad was trying to get the pulley off, he didn't know that there is a special tool made literally for the purpose of pulling GM steering pump pulleys, so he used a regular gear puller. The poor guy was so upset when he realized (after my warning while he was pulling it) that the pulley was warping. The entire pulley had warped, and the place where the puller had attached to the pulley (the side walls of the trench the belt runs in) had also been bent. Thankfully, later on, he was able to get the pulley all bent back into place. Oh right, he did eventually have to buy the special tool for 30 dollars to get the job done. Everything went back together well though, and now the steering is better than ever!
