Don't use any post-effects to make your recordings sound cleaner, it's just going to make it sound worse. Depending on what you're recording with you'll need to adjust the gain on the microphone as well as through your OS and recording software. It takes some tweaking to get the sweet spot. Also, make sure you're using cardioid setting on the mic otherwise you'll pick up lots of background noise. You may want to have some extra hardware to help; pop filter, mic stand, shock mount, you could even build a small box to mount around the mic with some foam padding to help reduce noise picked up from around the room. If the situation calls for it, you can always resort to my page which I claim.

I am going to try to finish my Pong/Breakout mashup game this summer in AGK. I have thought of some better designs for the code layout that should make it easier to program in.

Now that AppGameKit has a debugger it will be even easier to develop with! I can't wait !

Quote: "Anyway, I decided to try and learn jQuery to use in my project, as it's supposed to be a very useful JavaScript library versus native JavaScript. And wow, it's pretty awesome. When I first saw it, it looked quite weird and didn't make much sense looking at it, but works wonderfully, love how you can just stack methods on particular elements, like:

$(".menu).siblings().removeClass("selected").addClass("disabled").Text("disabled").highFiveTheArchbishopOfCanterbury();

So this picks any item with the "menu" class, finds their siblings, removes any "selected" classes that may be attached (may be for functional or styling purposes), add a class called "disabled", insert text in between the HTML tags and then to top it off, have the siblings high five the arch bishop of Canterbury...okay, that's not a jQuery method, but it should be.

And because it's very CSS centric, it makes like a lot easier selecting elements and manipulating them, their styles and the HTML. Given I have tried writing using plain JavaScript before now, this is a lot less long winded. So I can see why it's generally recommended by people."

you can always add it as a prototype :p

jquery is good to know, but it is also somewhat dated at this point. most people I know are moving away from it for new projects, but there is enough legacy code and people using it to stay relevant and be worth learning. if you want to check out some more modern frameworks, have a look at Angular.js or Ember.js

So I went shopping with my girlfriend yesterday, our goal was to blow off time before we went to see Tomorrowland. Great movie by the way, go see it if you can!

Anyway, since I have an iPhone on the way, I decdied to try and find a case for it. We went everywhere; Walmart, Target, Radio Shack, Office Max, and finally Best Buy, and nowhere had a good case, or if it was even remotely decent it was over $50! Ridiculous!

Anyway, as we were browsing around Best Buy (we still had an hour until the movie started), we became aware that we were being watched by their loss prevention staff. I guess looking for phone cases is a suspicious thing to do?

So we experimented; we went around every department, looking at the stupid expensive TVs, refrigerators, and finally the computers, and we were still being followed. It was so stupidly obvious, and really annoying. We were just browsing around, talking about the things we'll need when we eventually live together and just having fun looking at all the cool stuff.

Finally it was time to leave and as we were leaving I noticed that no less than 6 employees were walking towards the doors as well, one of which was being blocked by the head guy. He moved out of our way but not before telling us to have a good day. I turned to look and they were all watching us. Soo... I guess I look mighty suspicious?

ANYWAY, I ordered this case off of Amazon, since every store in town has sucky inventory!

Only one of those stores exists in Australia (Target). For fun, here's our approximately equivalent stores:

Walmart - We don't really have a Walmart equivalent from what I can tell, but probably Big W or Kmart come close.
Radio Shack - Jaycar Electronics. Most towns have at least a small authorised Jaycar stockist.
Office Max - Officeworks.
Best Buy - Dick Smith or JB Hi-Fi.

I briefly considered it but decided it would be more trouble than it's worth. I only would have said something if they had tried to say we had stolen something, in which case they could have a law suit on their hands because I could sue them for defamation of character for even accusing me of shoplifting.

My theory as to why they were watching us so much is that maybe I look like someone who has shoplifted there before, and they thought he was back to pick up some more goods? I know I have a doppelganger in town, he must be a troublemaker!

Kmart is probably the closest, or whatever other store you have that sells some of everything. Honestly, I HATE going to Walmart, but sometimes it is worth it. This, however, was not one of those times.

Radio Shack is actually in huge danger of bankruptcy, they are largely overpriced and irrelevant anymore thanks to most towns having Best Buys or other electronics stores.

Office Max is a pain in the butt as no employee there ever knows what they're talking about. I went in to ask for an ethernet switch hub (sometimes known as a splitter) and they just looked at me like I didn't know what I was talking about. When I repeated the question they finally just said "Well we've never carried anything like that, it doesn't sound like something we carry", I got so mad at their ineptitude I just left.

And now Best Buy thinks I'm a shoplifter so we'll see if I continue to like them or not. haha nah, I still like going there to check out gaming stuff. They have an EVGA 4GB GTX 970 for $380 I noticed, I might pick one of those up (or two to SLI them) by the end of the year to upgrade my PC.

Woo-hoo, got my iPhone in the mail yesterday! Two days ahead of when my case is due to arrive...

I let it download and install iOS 8.3, and have been setting up other things, such as transferring contacts over, and playing many games (anybody here play Dumb ways to Die?).

I cannot believe how much smoother everything seems to run. It is a bit overwhelming to have all the apps just there on the homescreen, so what I did is create a bunch of folders and labeled them and moved them off to other screens, keeping the most-used apps on the front (Messages, Camera, Safari and Social apps).

Already, I love it. It automatically downloaded my music from iTunes as well, which saved me a lot of time!

While the screen isn't as sharp as my screen on the HTC One M8, I do prefer the smaller 4" size because I can actually use it one-handed. Sadly the iPhone 6 upped the screen size and I'll bet Apple will keep it that way from now on, so when I upgrade to the iPhone 7 next year I'll have to keep that in mind

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRyHqtgsDFA

Also, considering saving up for a Panasonic HC-VX870 4K camcorder. Not sure if I can justify the ~$900 it'll cost, but my current JVC Everio HD is a bit rubbish. The OIS alone in the VX870 is a great attraction. Anyway, I don't actually have the money yet so I have plenty of time to think it over

Now, what should you be doing next? That's right. Subscribing to Flash Buddies

Integration testing is sweet.

I got buildbot working today. Every time I make changes to my source code the server downloads the new code, compiles it, and runs its unit tests. If anything fails, it notifies me via e-mail about the failure. If it succeeds, it will cross-compile for all platforms and generate release packages, which it uploads here: http://game.pixelcloud.ch/lightship/

http://game.pixelcloud.ch/lightship/bbot/one_line_per_build

Here is an example of a failed test: http://game.pixelcloud.ch/lightship/bbot/builders/test-ubuntu-gameserver/builds/2

It gives me all of the debug info I need to trace what went wrong, who is to blame, when it went wrong, etc.
http://game.pixelcloud.ch/lightship/bbot/builders/test-ubuntu-gameserver/builds/2/steps/shell/logs/stdio

I also have an IRC bot named "cometbot" who will insult me whenever a build fails over on my irc channel: game.pixelcloud.ch, channel #lightship

I think the coolest thing about all of this is buildbot is designed to allow distributed compilation. Any one of you can volunteer your computer as a buildslave, and buildbot will use your computer to compile and test software whenever it becomes available.

It's great how everything just slots together. The IRC bot can be used to pass commands to the buildbot and to github (e.g. create issues for the issue tracker), and buildbot integrates nicely with github.

So lately I have been toying with the idea of building some sort of fully mechanical computer, probably using a one instruction set move triggered architecture, base 32 single "bit" arithmetic, and 3 "bit" memory addresses (giving 32,768 addresses). Being base 32, traditional logic gates would not be used, but rather, all values would be conveyed by various rotatable elements, each capable of being in one of 32 rotational positions. Arithmetic would be performed with gears and such. Now I am wondering if I could go with a Harvard architecture and punched cards (the simpler option) or a von Neumann architecture (the more desirable option).

I'm thinking; the only factor (albeit a big one) limiting the speed of any mechanical computer is the amount of acceleration the components of the computer can handle, itself determined by their strength. The key, then, to building a fast (certainly still slow in comparison to an electronic equivalent) mechanical computer would be to construct it of high strength-to-weight materials. Fun times!

Just finished watching Predestination. Well, that was weird. Australian-created movie but you wouldn't know (all American accents etc.) except for how weird it was. I mean I liked it, and it was certainly interesting, but it was a time-travel movie and could therefore never fully make sense.

I don't know how well I could... Produce that.

Maybe I could make a game about a lonely ear of corn who has to collect bits of cauliflower in order to proceed to the next level? Hmmm....

What's wrong with lackluster? If all you want to do is have fun MAKING the game, who cares how it comes out. You could do it goat simulator style, start off making something boring and just leave all the bugs in as features so the end product is one huge trip.
