Corn simulator! The game gives you an ear of corn's POV perspective of growing, real time. You would actually have to play the game for several weeks to win it. Then at the end, a big ol machine would come by and pick you up, and take you to the factory. Yesssssss. (Clarkson voice)

My brother had a truly brilliant idea three days ago. He downloaded a heap of Hat Films' Hat Chat podcasts and I've been listening to them for the 8 hours I'm at work instead of music. Way more fun! Of course it has the downside of me grinning like a fool for no apparent reason as I load the roll cutter machine

So! Two Flash Buddies videos have gone up since I last posted (actually one was up before my last post but I forgot)! Here they are for your enjoyment

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, I've been learning the guitar! Acoustic guitar, to be specific. It's way easier than I thought last time I tried it... mostly because I started this time by finding the chords to Hat Films' Sad For Good song (specifically, their live version), a parody of Take That's Back For Good, and attempting to play the chords and sing along. My brother immediately joined in on the learning and we got to the stage (last night - we only started learning yesterday) where if we took turns playing a chord each (or set of chords) we were able to play fast enough to sing along at the correct speed. Today I practised basically all day and now we can both play the first four chords of Sad For Good at full (and even double if we're lucky) speed

I also realised about half an hour ago that I could probably now learn a few more chords and strum some more song baselines, so I opened the chord page for U2's With Or Without You and The Beatles' Eleanor Rigby and can play both songs (although somewhat slowly) and (since I know both songs quite well) sing along.

It's very exciting to be actually properly learning a musical instrument for the first time. I mean, I've spent quite a lot of time on the piano previously, but never got very good at it due to lack of practice - it's hard to find a time where no one's in the house to practise the piano, but with the guitar you can move around freely. I've always wanted to be able to play the guitar and now I'm finally learning!

Of course it has its downsides: my fingers are literally purple on the end and completely numb, but the pain generally associated with learning guitar is fairly minimal

Ugh! People who cannot correctly punctuate in the English language should not be given the responsibility of creating product packaging designs. To be fair, the rest of the box does look pretty nice.

To be fair, it's pretty common to use an apostrophe to separate a single letter from an S. For example, when referring to the P-plates on my car I might say P's. I've yet to find a better option.

(Argh, my fingers are so sore and buzzy from playing the guitar!)

True indeed. I will admit, it often looks better that way. Still isn't technically correct, however. I think we need a special letter, just for indicating plurality. Or some special symbol. That way S could concentrate on being for the S sound, and the apostrophe could concentrate on contractions and such.

Your fingers may hurt now, but the callus that builds soon is wonderful! You can play guitar freely with no pain, and it comes in handy for other things too. Once you get the callus though, make sure you keep playing. Going a few weeks without playing, then playing again, would always hurt (from my experience in a high school guitar class).

Wow, that video is amazing! I've never heard that music before but I love it I don't hope nor expect to ever achieve that kind of insane ability, but I would like to be able to pick like he was at the very start before the drums came in. But maybe a few years from now

Quote: "I think we need a special letter, just for indicating plurality. Or some special symbol."

Yes, that's a good idea. But it should apply only to single letters so that we don't end up with every plural word (such as "letters") having the special symbol. That could be more annoying than people writing "letter's" for plurals.

Quote: "Your fingers may hurt now, but the callus that builds soon is wonderful!"

Oh, they don't hurt that much It's no worse than typing with a blood blister. They mostly hurt after not playing for a few hours, like when I got out of bed this morning.

Quote: "Once you get the callus though, make sure you keep playing. Going a few weeks without playing, then playing again, would always hurt (from my experience in a high school guitar class)."

I intend to! That's the thing with the guitar - I can keep it right beside me at all times so I can just pick it up and start practising any time

Question 1: So do you play guitar, DJD64?

Question 2: Anyone else bother to use "practice" and "practise" correctly? They're the same as "advice" and "advise" - "practice" is the noun and "practise" is the verb. Not meaning to judge anyone, just curious if anyone else knows the technicalities of those words

Haha, only for a guitar class a few years ago in high school. It was just acoustic, and I never got that far. Didn't even learn to play with chords! About practice/practise, here in the United States, you will almost never see anyone use "practise". So I would think that very well may be an invalid form of the word here. Even spell check is giving me the red underline on that.

Ah, the associations are latitudinal; I was wondering if I should have included some line or something to clarify that. If you wish though, feel free to run for president and nominate me as vice.

I sort of grew out of MMPR a long time ago so it might be in the later years... but the scene reminds me of a movie scene...

Anyway I made this last night...

Not a lot of optimisation just messy code for fun and had the idea of building fast towers while activating physics along the way, the method of building the tower is as you can see sub 100ms for a 1.5~ thousand objects... be sure to watch in HD

EDIT

You might notice the object numbers increase higher and higher on redraw... for some reason the variable would not reset to 0... any idea why this might happen?

Also recorded using an Intel ATOM CPU, really need to build a new recording unit...

Also redraw time should really say rebuild... oh well
Made a second video with 5 tall spires one of which is made of spheres...

EDIT

In case anybody was wondering...

So there is a band I listen to at times; they are based in Australia, but most of their audience is in the northern hemisphere. Their latest album cover art features entirely upside down text. I wonder if that's on purpose.

Recording another video for Flash Buddies today! Will be edited and uploaded later on today as well! Oh, and in case you didn't realise, our release schedule is Mondays (usually afternoon or evening AEST) and Fridays (again, usually late in the day), though we may be putting out extra videos sometimes as well

--------------------------------

Well I typed this but forgot to post it. The videos are now recorded, but Audacity crapped out on us on Jessy's PC and just stopped recording the audio from 32 minutes onwards - grr. Not a huge problem since we were going to split it into two episodes after about 20 minutes anyway but it does mean the second episode will either be non-existent or will be shorter and need a new audio ending recorded
