I know why it was replaced, but NULL is still quite popular, so I was just asking opinion.

It has nothing to do with opinion. Always use nullptr if you are using c++0x or later to solve ambiguities.

This is a quote, word-for-word, from a man seeking to gain presidency over this forum - but it is slander and lies! Now I ask you: do you trust a man who would spread false truths and underhanded rumours?

Quote: "Ugh! People who cannot correctly punctuate in the English language should not be given the responsibility of creating product packaging designs."

This is another quote, again word-for-word, from the same man. I ask you: do you want someone who will watch your every move and correct you if you stray from the path he deems "right"?

Quote: "And we see another very interesting message from MrValentine."

Another quote. I ask you: can you believe a man who would twist and bend words with undertones and implications more than the words alone convey?

I hope your answer will be a resounding "NO" to all of the questions I have put forth today. If, when the time comes to make your choice, you put a mark in the second (2nd) box to indicate your vote for President Jer and Vice President Smeg, you can rest assured that in the coming days, weeks and months that President Jer and I will be making the utmost efforts to ensure this forum becomes a place of peace, harmony and tranquillity, yet remains a greatly productive abode for those who wish to pursue the highest of goals.

(For those confused, when I need a second name I've always called myself Clonkex Smeg)

What do you use to make your thumbnails, Clonkex?

BTW guys my monitor arrived in the mail yesterday! It is outstanding quality for the price, it seriously looks better and sharper to me than my iMac display did! If I could I would snatch up a second one already.

I will probably make a video of it to show it off to you guys soon!

They're not, unless you like squinting and short battery life. Some students have them at uni and they all told me they turned the resolution down to full HD.

Hell, even my 1440p monitor still feels way too big for a lot of stuff, but it's nice to have that extra real estate! The 4K monitors I've seen at places like Best Buy are really only useful for one thing - filmmaking! Anything else, like web browsing, is so ridiculously tiny it hurts your eyes because you're "straining" to see it.

4K is good for gaming (if you have a system that can handle it), I've seen a noticible improvement in anti-aliasing, the image looks much sharper. The problem is that so many 4k monitors are 30hz or unreasonably sized.

Gotcha. Someday, having such high resolution (DPI, more specifically) screens that anti-aliasing becomes unnecessary would be neat.

And that is why HiDPI support in the OS and applications you use is important!

My brother's been making the thumbnails with Gimp, a frame from the video and Google Images

We'll be playing some older games this coming week as Flash Buddies. The game we're playing today for tomorrow's video is being very uncooperative on our newer computers because it's so old. We've had it running before, though, so it shouldn't be impossible to get it going

Yeah lol I can't remember who owns The Hello World Channel but I'm going to assume it's you

We WERE going to try to record the original Ghost Recon because it's a really fun game despite being ancient, but we had many troubles trying to record it because the menu is a different resolution to the game itself So we recorded Clonk instead. The video will be out tomorrow

My monitor is 1440p too and ultra wide and 34" and it is plenty for me. 4k would be too high for me - 4k TV's I understand and I'm sure 4k gaming is pretty too. But 1440p already gives me loads of working space and of course I get a 5ms response time and can still do 60hz. So it brings a nice rich gaming experience (especially with the ultra wide - it's nice and immersive for games like Witcher 3) and provides me with a decent workspace, as you'll see from my workflow thread.

http://i.imgur.com/snTH7tX.png

It's also great for movies, many movies like The Hobbit are shot in ultra-wide anyway, so I can literally watch The Hobbit with no black bars at all (although the BluRay has the bars recorded in, there's a 3rd party plugin for Cyber Link that stretches the film and you can also stretch it using 'Cinema' mode on my monitor). Also, 4k looks damn decent on it. I've downloaded some of the 4k sample videos and they are looking great and watched some 4k YouTube stuff. Only downside is, Netflix and Amazon Prime don't have their 4k stuff available on PC.

This video from Linus Tech Tips kinda sold it to me:

Not a whole lot of activity on these forums on the weekends, huh?

AMD are going to be officially announcing their R9 300 series tomorrow (the 16th), but apparently a few retailers, such as Best Buy, have already started putting them on the shelf.

The R9 390X will be a very interesting card, much more powerful than my current 280X. WIll be interesting to see what their 395X card will be like!

Forgot to say this yesterday (well, I was at work). Monday's Flash Buddies video is up!

Also, I decided to try World of Warcraft for the first time in my life today. It's so big and has so much history I've always been scared of it. So far it's very much a fetch-quest RPG, but I'm still liking it. Also I'm looking forward to actually seeing other players too

The constitution ratification is going great! 100% of the votes cast so far are for it. Love the feeling! Nah, we won't consider it ratified with just a single vote.

Hey, it's you folks' loss. I had hours of fun writing it.

Now folks, vote for a president who considers his own failures merely a loss to others and a gain to himself. Plus, Vaseline!

What part was the problem? Jessy squealing? Sounds fine to me. Then again we do use decent headphones when editing so maybe you have cheap headphones that accentuate treble...?

We'll take a closer look at the sound for the next video and try levelling

Also, when you say "try Castle Crashers", are suggesting it as a game to play or suggesting it's similar to Clonk? 'Cuz nothing's similar to Clonk

Try means Try... literal...

My speakers [Which are Dolby Digital Plus certified] are fine, just level the audio, speakers have nothing to do with sound spikes... Are you using cheap video edition suites? this is a standard feature... and yes the squealing is painful...

I say level it because her squealing should not exceed the rest of the sound, I should be able to play at one volume [As with EVERY other YouTube video I have ever watched, Documentaries mainly, which have this enforced...] and not have to turn down the sound and not hear anybody speaking at all... only your videos currently feature this issue for me and I have been watching a lot of gameplay videos lately... [Without her squealing it is fine... I can keep the sound level high so I can hear you speak] long story short, stop her squealing...

I may not be the only viewer to have this issue... or do you intend to put people off?

Cool ok, we'll have a look at it

Quote: "speakers have nothing to do with sound spikes..."

They can do, which is why I asked.

Quote: "Are you using cheap video edition suites? this is a standard feature... and yes the squealing is painful..."

No, we're using Audacity to record and edit sound and Sony Vegas Pro 13 to edit the video. It's not that we can't level the volume, it's just that we've not seen the need to so far. It would seem that either we listen to our own videos at a much lower volume normally (so the squealing isn't a problem) or that your ears are more sensitive to sudden volume changes.

But as I said, we'll look into volume levelling for the next video

Quote: "long story short, stop her squealing..."

We've tried to no avail

Quote: "or do you intend to put people off?"

No, of course not.

AMD just announced/released their new GPUs. Fury for $549 starting in July, Fury X for $649 on the 24th.

I think I'm gonna have to save up a couple of paychecks for this one and grab it. 8.7 TFLOPS with 1.5x the performance per watt of 290X? Yes please!

Yeah, I just saw that... definitely gonna start pinching my pennies to nab it ASAP!

That should be quite the "future proof" card, much in the same way Nvidia's Titan X is fairly future proof.

Objectively speaking, that's impressive. Any piece of hardware that can perform 8.7 trillion floating point operations per second is impressive. That's 8,700,000,000,000 floating point operations in a single (1!) second!

Gosh I wish I could afford to preorder the Fury X... I MUST HAVE IT!!!

Someone should buy it for me and send it to me.

If certain screenshots of benchmarks are to believe, it destroys the 980ti, and challenges the Titan X. Also FreeSync is growing in popularity because it's not locked-down like G-Sync is, so I think we'll see a massive increase in AMD sales here this summer.

I mean, $649 for a liquid-cooled card of that power? NVidia would almost certainly charge double that...

However, I do suppose that it's a good thing I can't afford the card right away, in case it doesn't work right away for most people and they can report back and post actual results, instead of just believing charts AMD shows us.

I don't think I would go with a Gigabyte card again, they're good enough but I've read too many negative reviews of certain Gigabyte cards (from both AMD and NVidia), what brand would others recommend? Sapphire seems to be the really popular choice for AMD fanboys, much like EVGA is the preferred NVidia variant.

I wonder if it would be possible to buy a card like the one pictured and have the glowing red RADEON logo? That would contrast nicely with the blue lights in my case.

Oh God I love thinking about all these possibilities ahaha

I would be hesitant to believe any of the supposed benchmarks that have come out. I'm going to wait for the actual benchmarks to come out. 390X comes out the 18th, Fury X the 24th, and Fury in July.

Indeed, I shall wait until Linus Sebastian posts videos of actual test results. And also, Tech of Tomorrow is a good channel to watch for videos showing actual results. JayzTwoCents is another good one but each video he posts is at least 20 minutes long so... I don't watch too many but the ones of him building his computers are always fun!

I feel like I'm rambling today, probably because I've been up since 4am...
