AMD seems to like gamma correcting textures that shouldn't be gamma corrected when using texelFetch(). I had something in a GL_R8 texture appear too dark and data in a GL_RGBA8UI texture that was completely messed up except for the alpha channel. Switching to 2 channels or 16 bits per channel fixed it, as did using texture() instead of texelFetch().

So, the company I work for has gotten so greedy in the last two weeks.

It's not enough to keep cutting hours, now what they're doing is making sure that there's only one person at the service desk at all times. No matter how busy it is, there will be one person to run the desk, but also watch the lanes, jump on another register if needed, do cash sweeps (getting the excess cash from the tills), answer the phone, handle refunds, and tons of other stuff.

One. Person.

Two people could barely do all of that most days, that's how busy we usually are. And now they're cutting away the help we need?

And they have piled so much extra work on for me it's ridiculous. Now they expect me to also order candy for the shelves by the registers AND run the service desk AND do inventory by Feb 7th.

Is the insurance I'm getting through them worth the hassle? I have a feeling I wouldn't be as stressed out if I didn't work the service desk. Maybe if I went back to regular checking, or asked the grocery manager if there was a stocking position open. Otherwise, I be quittin'.

This is the GPU I will get with part of my tax return. I only need to use $150 of my $1170 that I'm getting back so I will still have plenty to go in savings afterwards!

I was originally going to go with the MSI variant of the 390X but reviews for it are rather poor...

Rah! Horribly badly designed user interfaces make me go pft! I was looking at my county's website, which has an interactive zoomable map outlining various property lines and such. Whenever you move around or scroll anywhere causing the site to load new imagery, it puts a giant white bar (easily 100 pixels thick) across the entire screen with a little spinning wheel thing in the center (all just to let you know it's loading new imagery). Additionally, if you want information on a property, you can click on it. When you do so, it highlights the whole property so you can see it better, but oh wait, a completely unmovable info window pops up and completely covers the property you clicked on!

Pfffffft!

That would indeed be correct. What has enlightened you unto this fine knowledge?

You know what's utterly astounding? Say you have a computer or other device with a processor capable of executing, say, 100,000 MIPS. For every foot your face is from the screen, the device will execute roughly 100 instructions from the time light leaves the monitor to the time it enters your eyes.

So, my other job has offered me guaranteed 40 hours/week at 8.50/hour to start (going up as I do more) with insurance.

Guess who's putting his two weeks' notice in at the store here in a few days?

I am starting to see that my decision to learn RubyOnRails before trying to get into ASP.NET properly was actually a sensible idea. It has forced me into a different way of thinking. From programming game related stuff for so long in DBP, Unity3D and other tools I've tried, I've got into set ways of thinking about code. However, having got back into ASP.NET this week after a year of only using RubyOnRails in my spare time, except to do the C# refresher a couple of months ago, ASP.NET makes a lot more sense to me and the stuff that didn't work for me, it makes sense why it didn't work. Granted a year is perhaps a bit much, but I rarely get time to code. So it might be a lot shorter for somebody who gets to code more. I am also happy that I've discovered the NuGet in C# for FluentMigrator, which is a good replacement for the database migration tools I used in Rails. Although, ASP.NET has its own built in database tools, like the Entity Framework, it actually makes building tables with my MySQL database quite straight forward:

As simple as that.

I also like that Visual Studio 2015 has Git built in, even if out of force of habit, I still use Command Prompt.

I personally hate using SCM built into IDEs. I find that it's clunky to use and often leads to mistakes. I use SmartGit most of the time, it has some really nice features that makes multi-tasking a lot easier. On linux I still use CLI (though I don't have much choice, since I use debian server, so there's no GUI whatsoever).

I've heard the game is quite demanding on hardware because of the graphics. What settings do you play at? Max?

No, although he is a coworker of mine. How'd you know?

Nope, the answer is MEEEEEEEEEE. However, because I like my coworkers I'm not going to just walk out and leave them high and dry. I'm going to talk to my manager and tell her during my final two weeks I will train someone to replace me, so that when I leave it won't be a big deal.

Not that it will matter anyway, I'm pretty sure they're gonna axe the store off the chain in the next year or two. This company is notorious for cutting hours to a ridiculous point, and then closing the store a year or so later. I realized it's because they want to maximize profits off of the store before closing it, and the only way to do that is to force people to work in a skeleton crew.

Oh, and yesterday we learned that if someone calls in, we can't fill the shift unless it's opening or closing. So, effectively, we would be down to one or maybe two checkers if the third afternoon checker called in. I am SOOOO not dealing with that for only $9.40 an hour!!!!

Max all the way, bud!
At least, i started it at max settings, and although the framerate dropped to 10 fps at times, it still ran at a good speed. But, i lowered it and now i'm getting a minimum of +25 frames per sec, yet still stunning graphics! They sure did a great job on the visuals and atmosphere. Simply amazing stuff!!

My game will undoubtedly be better , but still...Rise of the Tomb Raider is brilliant!

My PC specs aren't the most recent. A year ago, it was a bit more powerfull than a mediocre PC. The game runs pretty good, even at low rates.

Ooooh I see. I did consider that possibility, but considered it unlikely as the emoticon usually means "what you just said was really stupid". No hard feelings then! (there weren't any anyway lol)

Over the past couple days, I have developed a basic instruction set of my own. Just got finished (roughly) drawing a block diagram for the processor:

The lower right area cumulatively serves as the instruction decoder/processor controller, and it turned out quite complex apparently! Solid lines indicate data travel (some have arrows indicating direction), dotted lines are control lines.

For those curious, the processor's four instructions are:

Each instruction can be made conditional if desired.

I plan to assemble a 16 bit version of it all from discrete logic ICs sometime, assuming I have the money and my interest stays steady for long enough.

Indeed! Larger file size, more database space, longer load times, PNG is just better. Except for lossless compression, that part sucks.

That's right!

Ah, my computer seems ill. Incredibly high CPU usage (raging fan) and nothing out of the ordinary running... Task manager shows that every running process is using at most 1 percent of the CPU, and only a couple applications doing that (vast majority reporting 0). Computer freezing up often... I ran a virus scan yesterday, said it didn't find anything. I did, however, just now see Spotify suddenly jump up to 50 percent CPU usage and spawn two new instances of itself, each also using well above 10 percent of CPU. Strange stuff! Prolly make a back up, reinstall Windows 7 from a disk, then upgrade to 10 pretty soon here.

A lot of this seemed to start when I installed Adobe Creative Cloud the other day. Anyone known that to misbehave before?

EDIT I have now used the task manager to end every nonessential process, and CPU usage is still hovering around 13% solid (while all running processes in the task manager are reporting 0%). Looking under the performance tab, I see that 2 of my 8 virtual cores are running full out, while the other 6 are practically at idle.

This song, released in 2009, sounds SO SO SO '80s. I love it.

Well, it also sounds a bit modern, but there are elements that make it *feel* like it could have been from the '80s, post '86 to be exact.

Dang, incredible deal! Crap, to think you can buy a quad core processor, over 4 billion bytes of RAM and over 1 trillion bytes of disk space for 100 dollars is incredible. Speaking of super powerful expensive computers, my 1,300 dollar laptop (which I got for 800 through an awesome deal Lenovo did) can hardly run Chrome, Skype, and Spotify -- I think it has a virus. Check out these screens, taken shortly after a fresh start:

Granted, the processes list isn't showing processes from all users (just realized that option exists), but I think that there paints a picture of something bad. All of the main user processes together accounted for nearly none of the processor or memory used. For perspective, I have a 2.8 to 3.something GHz quad core i7 and 8 GB RAM. So something fishy going on...

For sure! Does it come from any sort of OCD tendencies? It does for me. The notion of using software to magically clean up a computer of viruses and registry errors bugs me a fair bit.

I'm thinking of fresh installing here pretty soon, then trying to upgrade to 10 if I can get that to work.

With the sluggish Lenovo, what's the hard disk look like, I just wonder if you have the same problem as me. I think my laptop's HDD is being ultra sluggish as it's only HDD stats that show struggle, when I'm on my laptop I'll have to show. This occurs even after my fresh install.

To update from my previous post. The symptoms you've got are similar to my laptop, which coincidentally is also a Lenovo, however, your post and my afternoon off and my desire to get it sorted had me try and troubleshoot my problem. The issue I was getting was the same sluggishness and the inability to run anything properly, even after a fresh install, which is what I tried last time. I discovered in the stats that my HDD was running at 100%, but the processes didn't show anything suspect or anything that would be eating my HDD and the transfer rates didn't look particularly high. I left my laptop on to defrag/optimise all day and ran a disk error check, found no errors and my HDD is now running at normal capacity and seems to be working fine thus far. So I don't know if you're potentially suffering from a disk issue. Now I am just running updates as my Windows is a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outta date.

I'll definitely have to do a disk check. It's been a little while since it's defragged, so perhaps I'll run one of those. The resource monitor seems to indicate that the disk is pretty chill, not working too hard. Interesting coincidence though, since my post yesterday, my computer has begun running just fine again. I'm still running the same boot that those screen shots I took were from, which initially ran poorly like the previous boot, but now it's running fine and dandy! Granted, I do suppose memory usage is still significantly large (close to 4GB used for just Chrome, Skype, and Spotify). I guess it'll have to start running badly again before I become encouraged to dig into it.

I also need to install tons of updates; since I reinstalled Windows in September, I haven't allowed it to update a single time. Last time I let it update, it completely screwed up the audio, which is why I reinstalled Windows then. Probably an irrational reason to not update, but oh well...

You'll probably want to do a malware scan (malware bytes is good and free! just download the free ver, and don't activate the free trial of the paid ver) in that case, just to make sure your PC isn't running slow due to any nasty infections.

I just bought 5 60g jars of Azera for £5.70! Woohoo! That should keep me going for a few days.

So turns out the laptop I spilled coffe on a few weeks back did in fact get damaged. I realised today that the fan hasn't been running since then.

The good news is that I havn't really had any problems with themperature anyway so I'm still able to use it for now. I should probably look into buying a replacement soon though
