Great idea, I'll do that. I ran MS Security Essentials the other day and it found nothing, but a scan from another program would probably be good.

Crikey! Just stick a rubber band on it and wind it up real well. It'll last a good minute or so!

Indeed, it works pretty darn amazingly well!

It's this one in case anyone is wondering.

The only complaint that I have about it right now is just how darned loud it gets when running intense games such as ARK, or even GTA V in some cases. I can't really notice when I'm wearing headphones but if I tried to record anything my mic would certainly pick it up, so I may have to figure out a way to sound proof it.

But otherwise, it can handle everything pretty well. I just downloaded Witcher 3 last night through Steam for $30 so I will see how well that performs. I didn't even want to try it with the old 280X in there, I was afraid of it melting

My computer has pillows around it. They reduce noise quite a bit.

Good ventilation must be a trick with insulation bags around your computer.

SO I ran the malwart bytes test and it also found nothing. Pft! Guess I need a new processor or something, maybe download some new RAM, or perhaps change out the bearing in the HDD

Ah. Liquid cooled it must be! Doesn't the liquid soak into the pillows? All that heat plus liquid probably means a lot of steam. It must be extraordinarily humid in your room. Bad for hard drive bearings! Well, for best noise reduction, make sure the processor has it's own little pillow. Processors can be VERY loud sometimes.

Egh, my monitor is pretty good overall, but it has one really grotesquely stupid feature -- it takes literally 13 seconds to power on. No, it turns on instantly (of course, it's an LCD), but Acer decided to have it show a little 5 second long animation of their logo slowly lighting up, followed by displaying the Energy Star logo for another 5 seconds. Then the screen turns totally off again for 3 seconds, then turns on and finally displays your jazz. Isn't one of the really big benefits of an LCD instant start up time? Heck, the VERY low quality monitors at my school turn on the instant you hit the power button.

I've never had it take that long to start a monitor. 4-5 seconds tops maybe. The one problem that I do have with my current monitor is that the display turns off and then back on whenever I start a fullscreen game. I suspect it's because I'm using displayport, but I don't remember my old monitor doing that and it was also using displayport.

So, I'm going to get back into C++ coding. I figured the easiest way would be to use Unreal.

I went to create the project and it told me I needed to install Visual Studio 2015, and displayed a button to install. I did that. Then I noticed that it installed Unity too....

Is Unity now bundled with VS 2015? Because that is highly bizarre

Two of my monitors briefly display a splash screen. They have a distinct lack of anti-aliasing.

Yeah, every monitor I have used except for mine starts up pretty fast.

Quote: "You're overcomplicating things. I simply avoided blocking vents."
Well obviously, I knew that. I do see a coolant spot on that one pillow tho

Quote: "They have a distinct lack of anti-aliasing."
The case with mine as well -- both the Acer logo and the Energy Star logo seem to be stored with 1 bit color. Pft!

@TheComet Not sure if you'll know the answer to this, but you seem the person most likely to. I want to build a processor (likely 16 bit) from discrete CMOS logic components using surface mount construction; what sort of clock speeds do you think I'll be able to get the circuit up to? Vague question indeed.

I have looked at Urho before and it definitely looks interesting. It's kind of why I want to get back into C++ programming again. I'm just going to use Unreal to kind of whet my appetite with it again because it's what I have on my computer at the moment

I would have used AppGameKit but I still can't get Tier2 to work. Oh well.

Im pretty suprised by how well my laptop works without the fan. For day to day usage I don't notice any performance hits and in case I do something more with it, it starts throttling the CPU which makes it pretty slow for a short while.

Just pour more coffee on it to keep it cool! (iced coffee, of course)

Really is interesting how some electronics are so sensitive to liquids and such. I presume it's because the water shorts out parts of the circuit? Then corrosion could become a factor too.

That reminds me... Almost four years ago, when I built my first computer, I realized after buying it that the case did not come with a fan. I ordered a cheap little 3 dollar case fan, and it worked fine, except for a horribly terrible grinding noise that it would make for the first few minutes of operation each day.

PFT! It seems my instruction set does not allow for memory pointers. I should perhaps fix that... I wish to write and run a preemptive multitasking OS on the thing too.

Hmm, perhaps I could bodge it... I would convert one register to a special purpose pointer register; whenever you wanted to read from an indeterminate location in memory, you'd load the address into that special register, then perform whatever instruction you needed next using a special address value that specifically referenced that register. Dandy!

I just opened up a 2 in 1 tablet with Windows 10 iv had for awhile now just never took it outa the box.

Intel Atom 1.3GHz
2 GB DDr3
32 GB HD

Downloaded and installed AppGameKit, took 60 seconds to compile and run the SpaceShooter sample haha....

I think i can cut the time way shorter after i shut down Windows Defender. It is eating up 60-80% of the CPU, but quite surprisingly this lil tablet runs quite smooth.

I was going to gift it to my sister for graduation and going off to college present but decided I wanted it

I think it will do fine with agk if you can handle the compile times. I think it will break me from checking myself as often. Which I rarly plan to code on it unless I'm out of town.

We will see how things go

Aww, how nice of you! Most people I know don't give nearly as nice graduation gifts, especially siblings.

Coding on a tablet is neat. The mere notion is fascinating, really...

Also, for those interested, I just realized another neat application of the hydraulic analogy (used to compare the physics of electricity to easy-to-understand hydraulic principles). By comparing electricity to a non compressible fluid (as the analogy already does) and comparing any and all insulating matter/spaces/areas to a non compressible but elastic solid, you can analogize phenomena like stray capacitance quite well. Would be neat if the analogy worked well with inductance too -- it sort of does, assuming mass and momentum of the fluid and such.

Code on 2 in 1 isn't bad, but it is agonizing on a pure touch tablet. Touch keyboards constantly miss letters or add letters, autocorrect throws a fit with non typical words like commands and variables, the imprecision of text selection and positioning... yeesh.

Ever try posting a code snippet from a phone or tablet? Hard enough just to post a message sometimes

Much indeed! Especially the ones (like Youtube and really every single one) that do not return to where you were when you navigate back to them.

Really, it's a trend of poor, crappy design that's making its way into just about every mainstream internet application. Like, shouldn't a page return to where you were on it when you navigate back to it? There have been times where I scrolled down like 5 or so pages, went to a video, navigated back, and the pft thing is reset to the first page.

So I went and picked up a little WD Passport 2TB external HDD for $90 last night. It will have backups of all of my Steam games so tha tI don't have to re-download when I reformat my computer.

Why am I reformatting my computer, you may ask?

Because when I set up this PC to run Windows 10 it for some reason set up my 3TB drive as 2TB even though I specifically told it to not use MBR, which can't read over 2TB.

Also, I will probably have to buy a key to Windows 10 Pro.... but that will be worth it I think.

Also I will probably look at installing it on an SSD to increase boot time and general performance...

OOOOH wow I found a 500GB Samsung model off of Amazon for $149!!! Sweet!

My issue seems to be that every two-to-three days, I'll just randomly be logged out. But when I go to login, I find I actually already am.

So then I go back to the forum where I'm still logged out. And then when I logout from the main site, it will tell me I'm already logged out... so then I clear my cache and that seems to fix it. Until two or three days later that is.

I'm guessing it's a glitch with firefox, although I noticed I am also logged out on mobile but with how touchy the mobile site is I could have easily logged out by mistake when locking my phone after break at work. Who knows.
