That would be very cool - and if the levels were based on TR, they would be pretty easy to design, maybe make your own environments then invite your mates round for an online barbeque . A totally free online environment where people could contribute would be awesome.

Too late. They're called porn sites.
Actually I meant sex toys hooked up to the computer and controled by the other party.
But never mind.

I visit the free ones regularly
I bet you do.

This could be a middle-eastern girl.

b-) This looks a bit like my dead granny.

This looks like an annoyed lesbian.

8-o This looks like a blow-up doll.

How do you acertain the sex of a smilie .

I reckon we should have a smilie drawing competition, like if everyone draws a smilie that looks like themself.

Something to put in your signature anyway.

well still thinking along the lines of a VR thingie ... i started work on it last nite - but then 5minutes into it i fell asleep.

i really need a new woman around the house telling me when i have to goto bed

well always i've finally kinda woken up so i'm sitting here looking at a blank pbVisual Designer - i know what i want to have in the level format, i know what i need to make.
but for the life of me i can't think of a decent design.

any ideas? i'm basing this format heavily around the TR formats because i can't be arsed to create a physics engine or collision engine so i figure the grid system would work fantastically.
well i'm just gonna fumble around a while - see what i can hack up i suppose, but any ideas ya'll have.

i've made a forum post over at my forums ... once i finish a simple editor and compile a single level i'll upload it all so everyone can like have something to work towards

Sorry for 'borrowing' your topic Randi.

I was thinking about this last night, and for decent texturing, you'd need a huge grid system. What you do is make a 3D array, so you could make a 3D maze of blocks, but instead of just storing whether a block is there or not, you store the heights of each corner. Trying to keep the corners within a reasonable distance from the block centre, you could change the heights of the corners to construct your level. This would give you a nice TR style engine that should be easy to play with, and collision detection can be based around interpolation (fast and accurate). If you picture a wall made from this system, you could make cracks along it by simply adjusting some bottom and top corner heights, deleting blocks would make tunnels, you could do quite a lot fairly easily. A matrix style ground could be made from a floor of blocks with varying top corner heights (I'd suggest linkable corners).

sounds good Van, keep meaning to get my beta of the level editor i made in PB up - the format was based heavily around TR4 format.
i'll see about grabbing the link from somewhere so you can look over, but the way its structured allows for all of the level data to be seperated to do effectively what your suggesting.

currently the worlds are setup simply with the Texturing being done automatically - probably change it later but it'll process Binary & Ascii world...

ya know its a pretty simple format similar to vrml, probably restructure before i'm done - really need to put some source out, let everyone else tinker.

Hehe, yeah - Ralph's my favourite character, he reminds me of all the crazy kids that made me laugh at school.

Raven,
I've been getting stuck into memblock'd models for my terrain in Stoked2, what I decided to do was chop the level up into chunks. I have a function that creates a specified patch of terrain, this is called from a terrain generation loop which adds each chunk of terrain to a main object as limbs. This allows really simple and easy detail culling. My landscape is 128x128, can use an overlay detail matrix (meaning flat sides for more believable ramps and rocks etc) and has almost 13,000 bush/tree objects per terrain. With this detail I get about 110 - 130fps on a 1.1 Athlon with a GF2 - that's with my 2,000 poly bike too . I think the 8 corner height idea would make for a pretty solid engine, and you could emulate a Tomb Raider level with it, I would work in chunks, and only create the necessary polygons - that should keep the frame rate up. Also, an annoying feature of memblocks is the inability to use individual materials for polygons, I mean you'd have to keep all your level textures in 1 big matrix-style image, but at least UV mapping is straightforward, a simple grid selecter and a 90 degree rotation is all you'd really need for UV mapping, and the level editing is really just restricted/simplified mesh editing.

It would be cool to make a sorta spoof TR with it, like using a cutesy Lara Croft with a more cartoony look, maybe even anime.

Once again, sorry for making myself at home in your topic Randi, when you post some more news about NightFall we'll shut up and listen .

hohoho hahaha.... That's soooo funny Fallout.

By the way...
Menopause starts in a womens mid 40's.
I am not that old, thank you very much!!

And...
You just wait, you will be 22 in August, and in a blink of an eye you will be 30!!!
Those years ZOOM by.

Besides...
We are "Simpson" talking.
Van will know what I am talking about.

(=^_^=) everyone loves a Kitty ... (obscure but makes sense )
i always though the menopause was like around 50, but then i ain't a lass so not like i really need to know.

though they usually start bitching about hot&cold more, rackin' off about everything more and more, generally being more like thier on SUPER PMS (it was named right really, men "oh-"*pause for bad word*)

Quote: "I am not that old, thank you very much!!"

just another :: coughdecadecough ::
though not that it matters, cause some guys get more distinghuished as we get older. a little bit of grey, slight eyesight loss requiring some stylish glasses and a few wrickles to accentuate our experience

plus we get a second childhood around 40-45 when we have our "breakdowns" hehee (it's all an excuse, we don't really break down )

though my mom says your only as old as you feel...
she seems to act like she's 16 most of the time (but then she is at that age hehee )

as for what Van said - yeah i was thinking about a similar system, but the overhangs still worry me. I mean the standard collision is find, but its when you have the platforms in the air and such - just not sure howto integrate them into the same collision system.
though isn't a race against time to get everything working. just a bit of fun really

Randi, I appologise for my sharp cunning methods of tactical leg-pulling.

The years are already zooming by though. It felt like I started uni a few months a go, but its been 3 years. It's a bit disconcerting actually. I chat to some of my mates that are following their careers now and already buying their first houses. I am getting old!!!

So Randi, god knows how you must feel. If you ever need a few dollars for incontinence pants or a hip replacement operation, I'll be happy to give what I can.

The truth... you're just an ass!!!

Both of you remember...

So when you are both bald as a bat; and have to use duct tape and a popsicle stick to have an erection...
and I am still at my sexual peek...

Hehe, that's true Randi, but how many women in their 50's walk around with men half their age?.

Plus there's always Viagra .

My favourite episode of the Simpsons would have to be the Lord of the Flies spoof. There's just so many funny bits I can't remember most of them, apart from Nelson stealing Milhouses glasses to make a fire, by chipping away at them with a rock like they were a piece of flint! - or Ralph eating the berries then whining that they 'Taste like burning'. Lisa is cool though, and Homer - but Bart is more annoying than ever, the Simpsons nowadays is more about Homer than anyone else.

Yes, I am well aware of Viagra.
I am a nurse you know.
Being that, I know that Viagra is not a miracle drug.
So don't rely on it.

It also has some side-effects...

Abnormal vision, acid indigestion, diarrhea, flushing, headache, nasal congestion, urinary tract infection, Abdominal pain, abnormal dreams, abnormal ejaculation, allergic reactions, anxiety, asthma, bloodshot eyes, bone pain, breast enlargement, cataracts, chest pain, chills, coordination problems, cough, depression, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, dilated pupils, dizziness, drowsiness, dry eyes, dry mouth, emotional or mental disturbances, eye inflammation or pain, other eye disorders, fainting, falling, genital problems, gout, gum inflammation, heart problems, increased night-time urination, increased pressure in the eyes, insomnia, itchy skin, joint disease, light sensitivity, loss of bladder control (urinary incontinence), low blood pressure, migraine headache, muscle ache, numbness, oral inflammation, pain, painful erection, prolonged erection, raised skin patches, rapid or throbbing heartbeat, rectal bleeding, respiratory inflammation, ringing in the ears, seizure, sinus and throat inflammation, skin rash, skin ulcer, slow reflexes, stomach or intestinal inflammation, sweating, swelling, thirst, tremor, vomiting, weakness.
And yes... these are side effects for men.

Also...
"Heart attack, stroke, heart irregularities, dangerous surges in blood pressure, and sudden death have all been reported after use of Viagra, usually in men with existing cardiac risk factors, and typically during or shortly after sex."

Enjoy...

Phew - just about put me off post-50 sex there Randi, thanks for that!

I'm only 28 though, so I've still got a 'good' 20 years in me yet . I'm not worried though, I'm one of those guys that go through life thinking that by the time I get old, there'll be a cure for age.

Don't let it phase you Van. Randi just listed all the symptoms of old age there. When I'm 50 I'm going to be pissing 8 times a night anyway - most of which I'll probably be doing in the sheets, so an extra couple of pisses isn't gonna make much difference.

I could write a come back for all of those, but that'd take to long. Instead I will leave you with this little poem I'm about to make up:

Viagra may make you sad, or make your anus bleed,
Or make your willy hurt, or make your breast enlarge, indeed.
It may make you piss, up to fifty times a night.
It might stop you sleeping, or make you need to shite.
It might make your sinuses and throat swell up with goo.
It might make you puke and sweat and feel like an old shoe.
It might make you dizzy, or make your breathing shitty.
But one thing is for sure, you'll be the best shag in your city.

in a decade's time i doubt i'll be bald, receeding hairline perhaps ... as my dad has one - and its not exactly bad.
my uncle has some funny hair though, that guys is like completely bald on the top of his head, but has this 3ft long pony tail.
but then he's kinda turned into some hippie, so bleck!

i wonder what i'd look like bald ... hmm, probably alot like that pick of fallout
those grade cuts never suited me, just end up looking like some psycho lol

Quote: "I'm one of those guys that go through life thinking that by the time I get old, there'll be a cure for age"

you know technically they already have ... they have some microchips that stimulate the section of the brain that causes your cells to slow down the reproduction. effectively giving you immortality (after a fashion)

though scientifically its not been given the greenlight, and they're still not sure on the implications on organs which really have a limited lifespan (suchas your heart) ...

its crazy we're living in an age which is on the verge of making cyborgs a reality, artificial arms/legs/hands, radio reciever & senders capable of being controlled but the electrical impulses of the arm, computers capable of translating the binary from the brain allowing you to control simpler cursor of keyboard movements on a screen.
remote controlled rats even...

its just scary to think how close they are with technology to sci-fi films, and what this will mean will be defined over the next decade as the research becomes more and more public knowlage.
will we have a Ghost in The Shell future, where we augment our bodies to have more capabilities & strength just to cope with everyday life, becomming ever more dependant on the Internet.
or will it be more Star Treks borg people, with people ever augmenting themselves to attain some sort of perfection, or even longetivity thier lives.

i know that within most of our lifetimes these issues are going to be completely real, and big. Whether some 3rd world country will destroy us with a nuclear warhead won't matter if someone like the US decides to augment thier Special Ops with robotics, making them faster/stronger and easily capable of taking out entire armed bases of personel because they're practically invunerable. (a squad of Robocops if you like)
How could we stop terrorist getting thier hands on such technology?
How could we stop people from hacking our brains and taking over, or even prevent viruses from infecting us but causing our own bodies to attack itself?

Cloning is the same, how will this actually affect the way we live?
and Ai is getting pretty powerful - luckily is further off being a real "what if..." right now, but still a nessisary consern.

The cultures between the 3rd world and the "super" powers is just going to be split, kinda like 2 different races ... one technologically advanced the other barely capable of keeping itself fed.

lol just some food for thought anyways

tut tut Raven my lad! I think you'll find "Universal Soldiers" were the movie warroirs you were looking for!

As for all the cloning, cybernetics, nanotechnology, bio-engineering etc. It's not worth worrying about. (1) Becauses there's nothing we can do about it, and (2) as easy as it is to allow ourselves to believe the governments of the world are corrupt and hellbent on destroying us, or big corporations will slowly because all powerful and be able to crush governments under their thumbs, it is all sci-fi. At the end of the day, although many of these technologies will be developed and will have serious implications, they'll (A) be highly controlled and regulated and (B) be very expensive and difficult to use, so much so that only the most wealthy terrorist organisations would have a chance of using even the simplist forms of the technology.

I don't forsee robocops replacing soliders because quite frankly, the human body is far better that any man made machine could ever be. The only thing it lacks is strength. You could make a cybernetic arm out of titanium and still have it blown off by your terrorists standard AK. My point being that robocop, in the films looks unstopable, but it's a film. Although the technology to make a robocop robot is close, it'd take years and years and years to perfect. To create a robot with the acrobatics, flexibility and manouverability of a the human body would be a million times harder than making a basic walking android. It's like saying "we've made a car and it can do 100 mph, now all we need to do is improve on it a bit to make it go 10,000 mph". It's not gonna happen without many many years of painstaking development.

And I'm gonna stop there before I go off even further hypothosising and taking dribble. After all, none of us know, so we're just guessing and suggesting possibilities.

My suggestion for today is that all spiders found inside the house should be killed with extreme prejudice.

nah... the Universal Soliders were reanimated soliders dug up, geez didn't you what the films

they had to constantly be kept cool because they were using a virus which kept the cells and heart working and working overtime. And because the soliders were originally dead thier thought pathways were set, which ment they constantly thought they were fighting a war which ended years ago (Veitnam).

the only cybernets they used were in the pods, the tracking and weaponry they carried around was standard issue rather than directly linked so they could swap them around depending on the situation.

as for Robocop being able to have his arm blown off with an AK47 - thats the point actually... they wouldn't be able to. If you use standard Titanium metals you can currently make protection armour which could be worn around by someone who had slightly better than adverage strength. You can have hitensile metal strings now which are the same width as a human musclestring, which is capable of greater strength ... which in the legs could allow you to run faster and in the arms carry much more weight.

see it would give them the strength to be as maneouverable as a normal solider whilst wearing say a titanium plates over thier body... effectively making them a human tank.
No it doesn't make the invunerable to RPGs - but still would make it close to impossible to stop them with conventional methods.

as for the control and regulation of technologies, you know there is a guy who froze his own mother using some sort of nitrogen technology he'd developed because she was dieing of cancer or something and couldn't be saved... his hopes are to defrost her when they can cure her - now people have complained about this, but he now lives and operates outside of the US jurisdiction and really they have no more say over his research.
Scientists will do this though, they will move to other countries where they're allowed to carry on with research ... experiment on living subjects ... break human rights laws setup by the superpowers, even cash in research they know is dangerous to other bidding nations (just look at the nuclear technology).

i'm not saying this is gonna be like we wake up friday morning and suddenly we have Robocop bashing down our door cause you ain't paid your taxes or something ... its gonna be a process over many years.
But the technology is here, no matter how infant it is - and within our lifetimes they will perfect it to the point where it can be applied and not just for those with the cash to do it.

i mean look at what Aussie Scientist have developed, a working teleportation machine. Oki so right now it can only teleport a single molecule, but given 50-100years they will improve it to the point of living things... just look at how far computers have come in the last 20years!
what everyone has sitting in thier bedroom/study right now is more powerful than the Kray computers which powered NASA 20years ago - not just slightly but we could actually command upto 1,500 launchs and guide all of them including all of the onboard calculations on a laptop!

might not sound like much, but think about it - we can do from our lap something which took 3square miles of computer back in 1982!
this is just 20years of enhancements ... not even 10years ago they had in sci-fi movies images of Holographic3D displays, although expensive you can now get Holographic Monitors for $45,000.
Plasma Screens were the same no more than 5years ago, and now you can pick them up for around $3-4,000 for the larger ones.

on the surface society isn't changing alot, but underneath our technology is changing and upgrading daily - at some point our development will overtake our ability to adapt to new environments.

Well if you have those symptoms, you are not going to find anyone to have sex with so that you could even use Viagra.

Have you ever seen gout?
OH! MY!! It is NASTY!!!

And when you get breasts...
