Modeling is the easy part, Animations can be a bit tricky. Even trickier is to get an entity such as a car to respond to a "use" function and be able to stear it. Practice, Practice, Practice.

Have you gotten the save and load features to work yet? Is so, could you release a version of Riker9 with just those features added? I dont want to be a bother but that is the main reason I am interested in Riker9.

I heard that there was a version on limewire that had some things that worked. Are those 2 features among them?

I'll wait for an answer from Cellbloc Studios, if he decides to answer, since he is the one working on the project. Its not Like I am standing beside him yelling in his ear. Its text on a forum on the net and thats all it is. If he answers then he answers, if he doesnt then he doesnt. I always check out rumours with the person that would know for sure. I never spread them and I never take them at face value. But thanks for the input.

Save/Load:

Ok, here is the issue with Save/Load. Each entity needs to save it's position where it is at the time you saved it as well as the time you need to load it. The Physics are tied to both trigger zones and the beginning of play. In other words, if you have a box falling from the ceiling and in mid air you save, when you start the game, the box needs to be at the floor.

Now, each wall is an segment AND sometimes it can be an entity. This array is, well, I think Lee was VERY DRUNK when he wrote the routine for the arrays of Entities, but I cannot bitch because, well, it works.

The ONLY thing that I am having trouble with is this. Lets say you build a tunnel segment, and you have a gate that you open and you crawl in side and save. For whatever God I offended, when you "load" the game, the gate will be closed and, unless you design your level correctly, you are trapped there. Same goes with broken glass, doors that you used to open with keys....

It's the entities built INTO the segments that I need to "fine tune". Yes there are work arounds when you build the level, but as you can see by the number of people still asking for what Riker 9 is, I would have to be explaining this till not only the cows come home BUT after they give up their milk.

It is my gut feeling that I know what the problem is, but with College and Work now, I just haven't had the time I once had since I got out of the hostage situation I was in for 19 months.

Fear not, for I still enjoy playing around with FPSC and development is continuing (thus slowly) on Riker 9.

And keep up the Excellent Work.

Suggestion : Maybe you should consider the 'Save' function to be triggered by a 'Checkpoint / savepoint' area. What I mean is that you cannot let the player choose when to save but the Designer. That will save you a lot of trouble with Entities and Closed Gates. Of course this means that the Designer must be very Careful where he puts this 'areas' of savegame.

Ahh, the problem is the Boobittity Boo? Or the Shallaganga Langa Boo?

Okay, so if I understand correctly, the script that runs it goes off when you save and when you reload it starts at 0, like normal. So the doors remain closed because they were closed in the first place.

Yeah, the worst thing I could see in this problem is something similar to what cellbloc said: lets say your walking down a hall and you script a laser or some form of damaging item to go off behind you thus blocking the way back (for design reasons), you save, exit and when you load again the laser is gone because like Merranvo said, it starts over so you can go back or worse trap yourself with it going off when your on the wrong side of it.

It is not like you cant' make a nice big level. Part of the reason I released the Arnec map was to show people this. And there is STILL room for more if you add on to it. A few lag leaks here and there, but it is all good.

If you can't make a nice map with little lag, then post your current map. People may help.
