You really don't have to do it if you think it is too hard or too much work. I could always use some aliens that I have found on the internet.

Should move this thread over to the 2D art section. It's a good thread, just in the wrong area.

Sorry, this thread is not 'limited' to 2D, it is in the right place. If it gets moved I will stop posting here. <shakes a finger at Tapewormz for even suggesting such a thing>

Cheers!

P.S. I made one post in the 2D All the way thread.. an invitation to a challenge with the offer of free graphics as a prise. I was told not to spam that thread. (that was, as I replied there,.. the single and last post I'll ever post in that thread) Not to worry, this is a nice place I've decorated it and everything.

I don't think that it'll happen anytime soon, I'm just thinking that if the thread gets too big, they might place it in an art related section. No offense intended.

I think we should take all the good art posted in this thread and move it all to the first page with links to the images, and models that way anyone who wants somthing from here can find it easily.

Agent Dink, Good suggestion, but your post seems to imply there are some 'bad' artwork in this thread. lol (too funny)

I edited the first post in this thread to showcase most but not all the artwork I have done.

Can't believe I never saw this thread until last night (took a little while to get through) thats what I get for using DBC. Dave your work is really nice and so is the work of alot of the people that have posted here. Dave do you think you could help me rework the playscreen for a game i am working on (or anyone else if they feel so inclined) I have attached an image of what i have so far.

Thanks in advance

ps I was looking to move toward more of a fantasy theme and away from the egyptian since I want the game to be mod based

How is it going with the 4th and 5th aliens?
I just want to know...oh all right. I admit that I am a little impatient and am a little tired or the boring red oval.
Feel free to keep going the speed that is comfortable to you. I won't need it for a while, and after that, I won't bother you for a while because I will have all but one aliens and I will finish the first 2 levels before I will need the last one.

Three more Alien Fighters.. Sorry it took so long but I got hijacked by Real Life (tm).

Note,.. I'd like to suggest you drop the 'bug' looking fighter for one of these new ones.

Names Agent Dink? just because you think some of other people's images (and possibly my own) are not 'up to par' with David's artwork, does not mean it shouldn't have recognition on the front page.

That is what is known as discrmination.

If people have that attitude then maybe us 'less able' artists shouldn't bother.

I'm sorry, I didn't intend my post to be critical and discriminating , I'm not saying that anyone's work in particular was bad, I was just saying all the really good stuff should be put on the first page, stuff that other people will find useful.

My stuff is definitely not on par with most (if any!) of Dave's...

My Bad, I said..

Quote: " Agent Dink, Good suggestion, but your post seems to imply there are some 'bad' artwork in this thread. lol (too funny)
"

I thought I was being funny in that his post 'could' be missinterpreted. It seems that my failed attempt at humor has begun to ruffle some feathers. Listen, I felt no ill intent or malicious feelings were posted. You people take things way too serious. My personal opinion of my artwork is it sucks,.. I mean look at the artwork of 'true artists' like Hilderbrandt, Chris Achelios, Boris, Julie Bell, etc etc etc..

My philosophy is as follows,.. 'No matter how good you think you are there is always someone better, and no matter how bad you think you are there is always someone worse.' Now, with that Philosophy, even if you are the 'worst' there is room for improvement, and as for being the 'best' well whomever that is, must be a really sad person because there is only one direction to go and it can be a long drop.

Oh, and since I've been doing 'Computer Art' for over 25 years, I think I might have an 'edge'. Then again, I'm a dying breed,.. 2D art nowadays seems to be limited to texture work for 3D models.. I suck at textures. And Sadly there is not much demand for 2D artists. most 3D artists can 'handle' the little bit of 2D that is needed in games nowadays.

Nuf said.

Oh, and did you see the first UI screen I did for the Gem game,.. when I campare it to the current version is positively sucks. How did I ever think that would look good O-o

Cheers!

Yeah I always thought the first few were a little iffy, but the finished product is pretty nice.

*edit* Oh, and yeah, you were being funny, it made me crack a smile, then I was like "oh crap, now what do I post!"

actually the alien with the big gun won't be the boss.
I have only one thing left to ask for:

Just one 32*32 tileable alien texture like the first two aliens in your post with the last 3 aliens.
I will do the rest of the work for the boss.

This should be a little easier than an alien fighter, but if it is not, then never mind. I can look for something else if you don't want to.

(After the compo, I might want to add more levels and bosses and sell it at my school and some other places. I might give 2/5 of the profit to charity, 1/5 to myself, and 1/5 to you(if you want, but that would mean a few more aliens). This is only an idea at the moment)

@ David Gervais: In a different thread where I was looking for 2D artists, Sven B told me how good your work is and I decided I'd try to get in contact with you. I'm looking for someone to help out my team by making 10-12 backdrops that are political in nature. I don't want to get off subject in this thread and I would have e-mailed you but you don't have an e-mail address posted. Anyway, i'd like to talk to you about this more and if you're interested in talking about it with me, please e-mail me at Maximus_PT1@yahoo.com (and the same goes for any other 2D artists... we're getting desperate and this is stalling our project).

This is a serious project. We have two caricature artists, a studio musician, several voice actors, etc. The rest of the media is splendid but we can't find a decenet 2D artist, and I don't want to ask the caricature artists to do it because they're already doing around 15 caricatures each.

Heres something i did in photoshop, if you want a customized one i can do one for ya.

Kelz: Discrimination would be if all the people whos artwork got left out had something in common racially, religiously or physically ect. It would be a more serious issue than just not putting someones artwork up.

Hobgoblin, I like the quasi-iso type look of the tiles. I almost decided to make a set like that way back when. It opens up some interesting visual posabilities. I think nethack at some point used wall tiles in that vein.

Yup, you did good, are you having fun yet?

Thanks for sharing, Cheers!
