No need to turn the other cheek. I wasn't trying to thwart anyone's good efforts. You help people and you're nice about it, and you enjoy art. If I had a critique, my only suggestion would be to try and relax a bit. You alittle on the sensitive side. I'm a fellow canadian here. That's gotta count for something I'd say.

You shouldn't take my comment as a slap in the face. What I was trying to convey in my comment (and obviously didn't do correctly) is that this thread is a little out of the scope of this particular forum. It wasn't ment to defuse, dissasociate, or disband the thread. So don't take it that way. I think you're still sore from the first time I suggested that it may have been misplaced and serve it's purpose better in the art related section of the forum. Ever since then I haven't even suggested such a thing.

You should put together some tutorials for people here. I think that'd be a great project for you, and for people that follow this thread. Show people how to accomplish things like composite images, and how to avoid using effects filters as they're a crutch.

There's some really good software if you're comfortable with naration and presentation. Camtasia Studio is pretty neat for tutorials.

I wonder if this would be of use to others here - it's the Model Viewer from the Open MMORPG Project (OMMORPG). It's an exe that can sit on your desktop and you just drag your model onto it to run it and check the model works in DB. Takes a few seconds to get going, mind you (because it's checking to see what the default fps is) but it shows load times, poly count and fps, and lets you rotate and clone your object.

It's what I've been using to test my .X models, y'see. Boomin' strange that the default Max exporter is so 'funny' about what will load it in later. DB 'seems' to be ok, but from what you say, David - just about nothing else can load it! (Not a good thing.)

David:

I hope you don't mind if I upload all your media into Gsupport, a DarkBASIC program to help media distribution. (which is in much need for new media)

(I won't upload it until you give me permission.)

Sounds like a nice way to get people some easy access to free media. You have my permission to upload the media I posted, just be sure to take care not to mix 'custom' media with free media. I made some custom media for such games as Gem Clusters and a few other items that were 'requests' like UI buttons for the roller coaster tycoon menu etc. I'm sure you'll be able to discern the difference.

Have a great day, Cheers!

Airship model - free for all to use (please put it in a game - I'd love it to be in a game).

Airship thread with downloads.

8998 polygons and 8 512*512 textures - .X format, works fine in DB.

Wow Tinkergirl I love the airship

@David I also have a request. I'm thinking about doing a hangman game (eventually) using those hangman sprites and the background you did earlier, the one that I think was for the X-fighters game.
Could you make one of those for the "Game over" screen? Like with all the metal twisted, broken, and rusted and stuff. I thought that would be nice to put in when I get around to making the game.

Edit: Actually this is the background I was talking about:

No rush, David. I'm working on animating Tinkergirl's airship right now. (And I work slow)

Tinkergirl when the program shows me the limb values they're actually all 1 number too high. Just so you know

Yes - sorry about that. I'm not sure why my code does that, I often suffer from "off by one" errors. Still, I was rather glad I got rid off all the other, unnamed limbs - they were just silly. If you finish animating it, would you let me see?

bmaczero, for the game over 'screen' do you really want/need a full screen image? I would think a smaller window type overlay would be good/better (imho) More like a dialogue box than a window. it could be used for anything form in game messages to high score, to well, game over messages. I'll post a piece of artwork later.

Oh and I think the only game that used that background was an asteroids type demo/game by RiiDii.

Cheers!

@bmaczero:
Is this any use to you? It is something I made a while ago but it seems to fit your request quite well. It is 640x480, so, depending on your screen resolution it will either be full screen a need to be centered as a window.
Attached is a .RAR file containing the backdrop and three images for each button: Normal, highlighted and clicked.

That's not what I was looking for but it is..."Nifty."

I think that would look good, thanks Scraggle

@David what I was looking for was basically that background you put up earlier (the one I showed) but with a "destroyed" look. I was going to have explosions go around it and "destroy" it.

I'll start on the game so I can see how Scraggle's works

Edit:
Quote: "If you finish animating it would you let me see?"

Sure but like I said I work kind of slow, I don't get a lot of time to code in an average day. And now I have 2 projects

Edit2: The drive belt...I dunno how to do that. Anyone have any ideas?

Edit3: Here it is! All the stuff in the boiler room is animated, except the belt. (That wasn't too hard). Next maybe some effects like steam...
I also made the camera start somewhere other than under the table

Edit4:See below

Hm, the only thing I could suggest for the belt would be to move it slightly (to make it look like it's vibrating), maybe with a few very small fast sin-waves, and somehow scrolling the texture on it to get the rotating movement look. Not sure how well it's set up for that right now, of course.

Oh, and rotate camera 0,0,180,0 will give you a nicer start position, instead of looking right at the map. Looks very nice though. All we need now is collision - but that's a whole new bucket of chimpanzees.

Thanks for that code, I will update the download in a minute. I am currently working on the steering wheel and maybe some steam in the boiler room, but i'm not exactly the best coder here .

Right now the wheel just twitches. Maybe i could make it so the user can turn it.

Ok I think I'm starting to get a little fancy with the particles . Here's the pretty-much finished project.

The results are:
Animated Boiler Room
Demonic Twitching Steering Wheel
Fire particles on the stove

Anything else?
And does anyone know how do I go about making the particles not visible through walls?

[Edit]Yay! The texture scrolling now works (I made a silly mistake earlier)
I also added a cloud effect I had on my drive, don't know who made it though...

Hello.
I'm writing a Pac-Man tutorial, and I'm very confused about these dots. First, why are there so many? Don't we only need 1 small one and 1 big one? I can see that some of them are half dots, but why is that? Are we supposed to put 2 sprites together to make a whole dot? That seems overly-complicated. I'm thinking there's a different sprite for each combination of weither or not the adjacent dots exist. However, if Pac-Man eats a dot, all the adjacent ones would half-dissapear! My approach would have been to just copy 1 small and one big, and place them wherever there isn't a wall, but they'd be too spaced apart. I can see from this picture:

that they're less spaced out than 32 pixels, 16 I think.

Can someone please explain this I don't want to let my tutorial's audience down. (Follow th link in my signature)

The small dots are to show you where you still need to go, the large dots are for power or to allow Pac man to attack the ghosts
