but I'm back and w/ a few mods I think i can make a slightlyentertaining X9 game

I'd offer to judge instead of enter but I dun have X10 specs, sorry.

my taste in music isn't weird, its just so amazing your ears haven't quite adapted to it yet.

@The Next

I'll create some special "modern" soundsets and music for this contest. I will update you via email when I figured out the exact list we will offer.

If you could just update the prize list to say "various soundsets and music" from 4thwarden, that would be great!

We are glad to support these events, and will continue to do so. They help everyone involved. We really enjoyed testing the games from the last contest, plus we learned alot about level design with FPS Creator and what you can do with the engine.

Good luck to all who enter!

So I see you didnt read the rules, only the prize list.

You cant use something you've made before the comp, or anything not made specifically for the comp.

Yes it can but it MUST be in a modern setting this will be decided at the judges discretion.

yeh it's set in a modernday setting, if certain scifi segments like doors count, like the cpntrol room one because there are actually doors like that today. uses mp9 weapons and mp22 monsters and shroudling.

EDIT: here's a screen of the first area.

I'm not sure about that i thought it was for non-commercial use only if it is for non-commercial use only i would rather you didnt use it for the contest. But in the end i dont know so it is up to your decision at the end of the day.

From Airslide:

This is why I questioned the intelligence of having a contest pitting v9 vs. mod vs. v10. There are things that you can pull off in a mod that you cannot pull off in an unmodified version of FPSC. And there are things in v10 that you cannot pull off in v9 or a mod.

I know that people are just going to take the easy road and say "then maybe you should use a mod or v10". It may be that I need to start using one of the mods out here, but I am perfectly happy using v9. And what about some of the new people out here that want to enter but aren't familiar enough with v9 to start using a mod? What about those of us that haven't made the switch to v10 yet?

I still think that this should be 3 separate categories to enter in. It's like a BBQ contest - you have a category for chicken, one for ribs, one for brisquet. You can't judge the three types against one another.

Look at the list. There is nothing on it that pertains to Mod's only. Stock X9 can do all of these things well. A good mod in the right hands has just as much advantage as stock X9 does in good hands.

Quote: "Judging Criteria - TOTAL POINTS : 100
Game Play- 32 Points
Entertainment Value- 10 Points
Storyline - 5 Points
Replay Value - 5 Points
In Genre - 5 Points
FPS Speed – 7 Points (Based on my system can see the specs i will be using at base of post)
Level Design - 30 Points
Use of Lighting - 5 Points
Use of Custom Media - 5 Points
Map Design - 10 Points
Visual Enhancements – 10 Points
Other - 38 Points
Menu Design - 3 Points
Use of scripting - 20 Points
Use of Sounds - 5 Points
Little Special extras to make game better - 10 Points"

If it's about little extra's that make for better game play, just be inventive and show us something we haven't seen before.

Count me in too.

Best.

What about the framerate of X9, it has an average of only 9 or 12 fps.

Mine has an average of 36. I don't know why yours is so low, but I don't think that's an average average if you know what I mean.

Whichever version someone uses the biggest challenge is the same for everybody...

Finishing and submitting a compo entry!

I have total confidence that someone skilled in FPSC X9 will run circles around someone with a Mod or X10 who limit themselves to drag/drop game creation.

This is going to be an awesome opportunity for the X9 pros to put up their A game and show what the software is capable of while equally awesome because mod users and authors will simply be allowed to compete.

While I don't entirely disagree with you Xplosys, my main point here is that the contest is comparing 3 different versions against one another. And while I don't plan on entering due to competing priorities (I'm working on a level design tutorial), I would just like to see this be fair for all who do enter.

I guess I would be worried that if people who don't use a mod see that they are going to be judged against a mod they might not enter.

xplosys is added

As for the framerate i am aware there is a cap in FPS Creator X9 stock and that will be taken into account. It is not just how high the number is it is how high the number is compared to what the top it can be.

As for the whole thing about the 3 versions being marked in the same category i dont see how it is unfair i agree with what Errant and xplosys have said.

I might enter but my computer is out of commission for the rest of the week. Good thing I'll be upgrading when my new mobo and GFX card gets here. We'll see. I kinda stink at FPSC.

Hopefully our computer will run FPSC smoothly since we ordered 3x1GB RAM modules to equal...You guessed it, 3GB! Better than 1GB lol. But for £40? Gah, yikes. IT should run great on these specs:

3GB RAM (used to be 1gb)
8400GS 512MB
Dual Core 2.5GHz
Vista HP

Let's wait and see

If there is a level you go back to every other level (like a hub), say you go there 3 times, would that count as 3 levels or just 1?

I dunno, I'm doing something which Next has said won't count as a level, so that may be alright but it depends if the level is persistent (stays the same).

That would count as only 1 level as it was only designed once and you just jump to it.

I also said to FCV if the level is ONLY one room and you visit it more than once i will NOT count it as a level but as a sort of portal between levels.
