Lol, I might be changing to X10 as well since my new DIY PC almost murdered X10 at it's gawping framerate compared to this PC (80-150 performance with everything maxed out). And it's a only a 1GB RAM .

Just realized my concept can't be accurately/well realized in FPSC(solving a Rubik's Cube) so I've had a concept change and I'm quite pleased with it.

One more question:

blackprofductions posted a game set in 2089. What are the year boundaries which we are allowed to set our game in? I guess somewhere around 1940-2100

End Date is on the first post but to make life easy it is 14th August 2009

Modern Day in the case of this contest is 1980's to 2020 and the game must look modern day not all sci-fi and then you claim it is set in 1980 if you get what i mean.

Hope that is ok

i've chnaged my game to on-the-rails to add a bit of flavour, like time crisis or house of the dead.

hey the next, you know it says 3 to 6 levels in a game, but are you allowed stages?
basically, i'm making a time crisis-esque game with lots of very short stages (about 3) in each level. there will be about 3 levels, all in different places, is this ok?
p.s and when i mean very short, i mean 2-5 minutes.

@shadowfire
As decided before you can have jump levels but they MUST be no more than one room, a room is defined as a room no bigger than 6 x 6 segments and MUST not contain any doors the player can use. Otherwise it will be counted as a level. Sorry for that bad news.

Next, as long as you're on this subject, I was hoping to use a similar method where the player opens new doors in a map, and the engine loads each room as a seperate level. However, all of these rooms would be considered part of the same map, and the player can backtrack through these levels as many times as he needs. (IE, the player is in a house, he opens a door to go into the kitchen, and it loads the kitchen room. The player goes back trough that door, and it puts him back in the previous level.) Think about the early Resident Evil titles, if you've ever played them.

I would like to know if this is accepted now before I take it any further, and end up with twenty levels for one chapter

What you just described sounds ok to me i see it as a video playing as you open a door not an actual loading of a level as such so that will be allowed.

I would like to enter but reading the whole thread I am not sure about these two things:

1. Can I submit everything on the 14. of August (not exaclty on the last day but you get the idea) or is there an earlier deadline for entering the contest and providing game name, theme and story?

2. If I enter and start building a new game, can still I post about it in the WIP or Showcase board and submit a *final* version of the game until the 14. of August?

In case you find my grammar and spelling weird ---> native German speaker ^^
