I guess german is a nice language, and it's a bit more 'complex' than for example the english language (imo). But the script for that german dubbing still sucks pretty much, and the voice acting is lame too.

(What is the maximum size for embedded images? I hope it's not violating any rules. But noone except for us cares about this thread anyways, right? )

For something completely unrelated:
I decided to 'watch' a randomly chosen episode (happened to be S02E01 - Return of Harmony Part 1) and pause it frequently to sketch some of the characters (like, copying them ) I now spent about 1 hour or maybe a little more, only got 5 minutes into the episode because obviously the video was paused most of the time

Here's a VERY bad/low-quality cellphone-camera photo of what I did:

I don't know If this'll improve my proportions and stuff when drawing ponies without a direct 'template' image or whatever you'd call that. But this way I can figure out the style MLP uses, and practice some sketching
(and yes, the Rainbow Dash sketch happens to be 20% cooler than the others,. I don't know why, though. )

Edit: swissolo, you posted while I was writing this/hadn't refreshed the page. I'm referring you to the topmost image within this post.
Also:

I'm glad websites like 'www.unblockyoutube.us' (it was the first hit on google i guess, but does the job 'n' stuff) exist. Who is this GEMA anyways.

Sisterhood Social is my favorite episode because it has ze most Sweetie Belle. I teared up a bit at the part where Rarity found Sweetie Belle's picture after she left...

I agree, German is quite complex in comparison to English. I would like to say one thing to this though... I've recently started translating fan-fics to German, and I've noticed that German lacks the descriptive power English so elegantly provides A sentence I struggled with :

E:I take a deep breath before thrusting myself into the night.
D:Ich atme tief ein bevor ich mich in die nacht werfe.

I don't think werfe is the correct word there... Grammatically speaking it's correct, but descriptively it just doesn't compare with thrust. Not even close.

I completely agree with that, to me the english language is elegant, stylish, efficient. And cool . I guess because it's heavily used in the media/advertising here too, even as a little kid you start to think that english sounds totally cool and awesome. Atleast that's how I perceived it. I like reading english books too, because I like the language and as a challenge/to improve my english. (Same as watching movies/tv series in english tends to improve understanding spoken english obviously).
About german, I can only assume what it's like to hear german as a non-speaker or atleast non-native... Maybe it can be compared to how I perceive french... even though french is very different from german. Well you get my point.

Any more context to that? Maybe thrust could as well be translated as 'stürze' but I guess that doesn't fit very well either.

About translations, it often is hard to find equivalent expressions; that's why I always feel like translated media only contains a certain amount of the things expressed by the original author... well that must be the case with every translation. But if translating a german work of fiction/art/science/whatever to english or other languages opens it up to a bigger audience I guess that's a good thing too... And I'm kind of trailing off right?
Anyways about translating stuff: I often happen to 'think' certain expressions/ideas/thoughts in english, when I actually need the german version of that and then struggle to translate it properly. (works from german to english too, of course) Yeah my mind is a weird thing.

Hmmm, I always heard that English apparently had the widest array of descriptives, but I assumed I only thought that because it's the only language I know to any real degree.

Wow, it took me a while to actually find the video where he was given the pony. Operation Flutter[9] : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSNY2e0QwS4

Nope, I just heard of it... I don't really know if he's serious or not though, he seemed a little overwhelmed when it was given to him. I mean what was he supposed to do? Turn down the present? He couldn't because he was being filmed. And he couldn't really get rid of it later on because a lot of people were watching him, so he had to announce it a few times in some of his daylies.

I can't find any definitive information on whether he watched the show or not...

I saw that video before, it's pretty awesome And also most of the filmed websites/interface stuff is in german. Heh.

Who is Day9? Never heard of 'em.

Edit: And I just posted a new, umm, artwork of mine in Quik's birthday thread. As well as some additional screenshots/info on how it was made

Saw this on EqD, and immediatly knew he was german, because of his accent. I'm guessing I'd sound similar, though I would think my accent isn't as noticable as his, but I don't really know as I rarely (never) actually speak english. (I just posted this video because of the accent, I don't really like JRPGs)

Frequent visitors of EqD like you guys (and me) probably have seen this essay about the fandom already, but I thought it was nice to read about how (and possibly why) this fandom came into existence... especially since I've only been part of this for about one month maybe. Well it's nothing new there, but I liked it.

And congratulations to EqD for hitting 100,000,000 visitors :3

Well, I figured I would stop disliking the show even though I knew nothing about it, and actually watch an episode...
Now, I'm in my late twenties and am not actually going to watch the whole thing but it somehow reminded me of shows like Dexter's lab which I love, it wasn't bad at all.
No idea why I'm writing this, just, I guess sometimes, no matter how silly something seems we should atleast give it a chance.

Work-in-Progress

When I sketched it, it was going to be Rainbow Dash, but I decided to make it teenage Scootaloo with awesome wings instead. Look, it's a flying chicken!

Feel free to point out things that could be improved/tweaked at this stage; I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow and continue. I feel like approaching a different coloring style on this one, but I don't know if I'm able to shade this properly with my laptop-mouse.

The shading on the eyes, or the whole thing

Quote: "but other than that iäd say it looks awesome!"

ä and ' are next to each other on your keyboard too?
And thanks. I'm not sure if the whole shading thingy works, it's just two colours blended and kind of clashes with the thick lineart, too. I guess I need to look up some shading tutorials, and also I want to try 'Paint Tool SAI' as I heard that's what cool people use for this stuff.

the whole thing, i dont find the shading to look good :I maybe because it doesnt fit the overall style, if you necessarily want shading i'd go with cellshading^^

I like the shading as long as you don't overdo it (use very unsaturated colours for it). The eyes look fine in my opinion. I think the body proportions could be improved; His lower body is too wide.

I'll give this another try, and cellshading probably still fits best, yes.

Quote: "I like the shading as long as you don't overdo it (use very unsaturated colours for it). "

The shading color I used is completely off, right? It looks kind of dirty, not like the color that's supposed to be there...

Quote: "I think the body proportions could be improved; His lower body is too wide."

I'll look into that too. By the way Scootaloo is still female Even though she's tomboyish, similar to RD.

*Broo-fail*

Did I really mess up her gender?

The shading is OK in my opinion, maybe just a little too saturated (the gradient is too harsh). If you made the darkest colour of that gradient a bit brighter so it's closer to the original skin colour, it would be much better.

Female ponies - soft edges (especially mouth)

male ponies - hard edges

I cant recall seeing any male child ponies, so idunno if it applies to them aswell, but fairly sure it does

Why are they with Cheerilee and the CMCs and all the others from their class on the field trip to the canterlot sculpture garden in S02E01, then?

Quote: "Pip?"

and after looking at the episode with Pip again, I guess the main difference is the voice, and not so much the design... their mouth is not as different to the females as it is on adult ponies. Well and they don't have eyelashes.

AHA! it does make sense.. at any rate: they have alterned their faces to really come across as male characters /theyre a shoeload more detailed\ and their voice actors are a lot more male ish

at any rate, ill keep going with: males - sharp edges and females soft ,since thats how it usually is in here
