Good idea. A better design at your website can helps to promote better their games.

I have revamped my site completely. A new design and new code on PHP.

I've been approached by another App Store called Avenue App Store, and was wondering what you guys think of it?

I think it looks promising and although it's only been going for a fairly short time and currently they mainly have free apps the ones they are providing are fairly well known such as Kindle for PC and Skype.

They don't provide DRM but the installers are deleted after install by their client so it sounds quite a bit like AppUp in many ways.

They support Windows XP, Vista and 7 32 & 64 Bit at the moment but it's more geared towards desktops & laptops than netbooks and might be a good outlet for higher end games too.

I'll be trying it out with some of my existing games over the next few weeks so I can give some early reports to those of you who are interested.

you may want to review the terms and conditions of the AppUp store first though as they may have a stipulation that the games you submit to them can not be offered elsewhere as well. not saying that this is an actual condition, but I suggest you check first though.

I took a quick look and because AppGameKit produces Windows standalone executables by default, you should have no trouble getting your apps onto Avenue App Store, or indeed the many Windows stores that are out there including Marketplace and RegNow.

Thanks Lee! That's really handy to know

With AppUp we use the AppUp dll which checks the game is licensed with the client. Since we would need to compile in native code in order to include other SDK's such as the AppUp SDK is there a simple way to translate our basic code into native? If not are there any plans to produce a translator?

Also have you any ideas how we can protect our AppGameKit games from being copied?

In the AppGameKit help, you will find Tier 1 Guides which show you how to take your byte code app and compile it natively in Tier 2. I think the Windows guide needs 'a lot' of additional work as you will appreciate when you visit the page, but when it comes it will have info about AppUp SDK too. The other guides however give you a great idea how you would achieve the said same with Visual Studio.

I just had a quick look at it and it could probably use a bit more work.

Quote: "The other guides however give you a great idea how you would achieve the said same with Visual Studio."

Would you need AppGameKit Tier 2 set up in Visual Studio in order to compile byte code natively?

Tea ayy, what kind of tea do you drink?

I'm not the best person to answer that since just about everyone is "northern" to me.

I've started my minigame btw, more details in the other thread but basically a spin off from radar invaders. I had fun working out the sprite scaling ratios though.

ADG Community Project!!!
Hi guys, the idea of a community project has been floating about for a while and we have decided that now is the time to start one!

Purpose
The purpose of a community project is to gain as much publicity as we can. The more publicity we get, the more publicity your apps will get once they have published onto the ADG website.

The Project
We have decided that this project would be best built using AGK Tier 1 (BASIC) because we would like the project to be available on multiple platforms and we would like to involve as many developers as we can.

So what will the project be? Well we thought it would be a good idea to create an app that contained multiple games such as a "5 games in 1" but we are certainly not limited to 5 minigames, we can have as many as we want! This means that each developer can create a minigame to include into the final product and don't worry if you need help, I'm sure it will be provided.

As there will be multiple minigames, in order to maintain a certain level of consistency we have come up with the theme of "Arcade". This can be anything from Asteroids to Snake to Pacman, and be creative, add a litte twist to your game.

Technicalities
As we want this bundle of games to be availabe on multiple platforms we have decided that games will need to use the percentage resolution. If you have trouble scaling your sprites back to original size we will gladly help with that.

Cost/Profits
So we don't have debates/arguments about who earns what money from this we have decided that this will either be a free app or any profits made will go to charity.

Post your ideas quickly otherwise someone eles might take it!

Currently the minigame ideas we have are:
baxslash: Gravitore - Asteroid mining game
Hodgey: Alien invasion

Thanks Hodgey! Can I just add that we are currently considering making this donation-ware but may also provide a cheap version to some platforms (IE. AppUp).

If the size of the game gets too much we may need to split the game into "Volume 1" etc.

I see this as an ongoing project and a very young idea so it may evolve as we get going properly.

This is a chance to get published for free, but not intended to make ANY profit for any of us directly, although through exposure we may well get more sales of our other products that will be promoted in-game via our website link.

This first volume is in aid of Birmingham Children's Hospital. If you want to find out why read this distressing link by a TGC forum member: What i've been doing...

You're welcome baxslash. Maybe once we have something to show we could make this as a separate thread and as a sort of team request. I think it would gain a bit more attention that way.

I haven't bought the AppGameKit yet so I can't help with making anything but I could always help out with developing ideas, helping in discussion etc. I do think that it would be a good idea to get one person to do the majority of the artwork as then the style will stay consistent, I think this is particularly important for the GUI elements for example have many different colour variants of buttons and fonts that fit each game because otherwise you will end up with a mish-mash of 5 different shape buttons with different fonts on them with different amounts of shadows or glowyness

I like the idea. How about I work out the menu template and we try to stick to it for all the games? I could generate some simple commands for the menu we can all easily integrate into our mini-games.

I'll make a top menu from the same template so we can seamlessly flip between games. We can save some memory by using one template too! Sound good?

Thanks Teh Stone!

That does sound good baxslash! On the weekend I developed a template for creating apps so, in theory, it should be a simple copy/paste job with a little tweaking here and there.

Well, I guess now we wait to see what graphics The Slayer coughs up!

On a side note, I meant to mention this a lot earlier but forgot, your enviroscope program needs to be compiled with DBPro RC7, I got the parameter incorrect message.

If it's okay, as time progresses, could I make a few requests? I don't need anything right now but when my game starts to get a little further in development I might need coughs...I mean graphics.

I'm not surprised, I haven't compiled it in ages... I must say I didn't think anyone was still using it

I'll come up with something using place-holder graphics to work out what I need then I'll let you know via email if that's OK mate? You're too good to us.
