I'd like to make a small announcement regarding the ADG newsletter. From next month's issue it will have a new Editor since I'm taking too much on at the moment. I'll still be helping produce content and easing our new Editor into the job but Adam Hodgson (Hodgey) has agreed to take on the role. His input and enthusiasm for the group has been a real help to us all that most of you may not be aware of.

I'm sure he'll make a great job of it thanks Hodgey!

The answer is: For continued support, help and general goodwill to fellow forum members.

Now you just have to work out what the question is.

Grats Hodgey. I'm sure you will have some great stuff for future newsletters!

I have been beavering away with a simple little Christmas game for the last few days. It needs a little work to get the gameplay more entertaining but is looking reasonable considering it uses my graphics ;p Anyway I thought it might add some festive cheer to the thread!

Looks good DVader, it's amazing how something that should be simple like christmas graphics can actually be quite hard.

Is the question "Why do I have cake at my front door step?"? Well it's delicious!

@DVader: looks like a neat little Christmas game and the graphics look fantastic. I agree with BatVink's statement about them being hard to draw.

Sorry for the bump, guys.
Just want to remind everyone that there are still two competitions going on at the moment with great prizes HERE and HERE.
You can find the official ADG site HERE to upload your entries and win one of those wonderful prizes.
Remember, signing up for an ADG account is totally free.

Prizes are given by TGC, Matty H, Rich Dersheimer, baxslash, JRNTexas and me. Thanks for that, guys!

Anyways, good luck to all who competes. You have still a couple of weeks to make something and win one of those great prizes.

Cheers

@Digital Awakening, welcome!

If you want an account on the ADG site just use the "Dev Login" link at the bottom of any page then select "Register new account":
http://adg.devink.co.uk

I'm in the process of changing the first post as I will no longer be using it as a place to store info on our members / games. From now on I'll be using the website as a repository for all things ADG.

I'm saying this so that nobody gets offended by not being added to the first post.

Created ten more FREE explosion spritesheets with smoke (animated) which are available HERE.
This time, two explosion types with each five different variations.
You can use them for free in your games, just give me (Chris Van Wijmeersch) credit in your game. Thanks.

Hope you'll like 'em.

The explosions look fantastic Chris! I might use them for my Radar Invaders game. Having a variety of explosions adds to the fun.

Hi Guys,

Been a while since I posted on the forums. Been busy with lots of things (mainly work).

Have been able to complete my first game though using AppGameKit T1.

Not sure how many actually remember my initial post on what I was planning to do, but I've actually finished it. It's announced on the AppGameKit Showcase board AGK Showcase board.

Like I say there, I was really hoping to get this published up on AppUp, but AppGameKit T1 (by itself) doesn't have this capability (yet - hopefully it will come in an upcoming update).

I wouldn't mind it being put up on the ADG Website either as a "Coming Soon" game (it hasn't been approved on any stores yet, so it doesn't fulfill the stated requirements there) - oh well.....

Anyway, have a play and let me know what you think of it. Cheers.

I thought it did. I haven't tried it personally but here's the AppUp Tier 1 guide.

Hi Hodgey,

Tanks for the reference, and yes, there are instructions (on transforming a T1 app into an AppUp product), but it relies on having the VS development environment installed and then performing a number of (not so simple) modifications, etc.
This is not possible for me as I do not have VS installed (and don't want it to be either) for now.
Hopefully TCG will come out with a much simpler method of getting an AppUp game up and running using T1 only (without requirements the other external tools). If they came up with their own conversion tool or something, then that would be best.

I see your dilema.

That would be awesome but I'm just wondering if that would be in their jurisdiction. In other words, would Intel allow them to make such a tool?

Anyway, like baxslash I'll give it a shot later and I see The Slayer has done a good job of posting our team project up on the same board. Nice work The Slayer!

Honestly I don't think it would be so hard. They would have to include the AppUp library in every executable or provide a switch in the IDE with some way of adding the correct ID's and passwords into the built exe... not impossible or against AppUp guidelines.

In that case I hope we see something like this in the near future. Hypothetically, could anyone make this tool or would TGC have to make it?

It would have to be part of the compile process I think. Just because the library would have to be included. There might be a way to separate the ID / passwords but that feels risky to me.

Maybe they could integrate it in the AppGameKit through commands.

please do; I'm interested in all of your opinions. It's a very basic game with not much variety, but hopefully not too boring or repetative...

In regards to the possible AppGameKit AppUp tool or added functionality, I was thinking myself that similar to how they have the main ".exe" file that gets built/copied that seems to use the generated ".byc" bytecode file from the compile process now, that they could continue down this route and add the AppUp functionality to the main ".exe" file and the use would only have to add the relevant AppUp GUID, etc. in the compiled bytecode via possibly a few constant declarations. Anyway, maybe it only seems that easy to me in theory as I don't know exactly how the AppGameKit works, and that this wouldn't be feasible in practice...

I do wonder what is possible and what is not. We all know Apple wouldn't allow something like this. Other markets shouldn't be as strict but I haven't got a clue myself. I'm targeting Android myself and there are quite a few having problems with that. Wouldn't hurt to be able to compile directly to different platforms directly from within AGK. But this surly would be in the future as TGC have other things planned for now.

Hi Hockeykid, if you mean in the first post I actually need to change the first post since I'm not updating it anymore. I'm going to keep it simple and have all our published games on the ADG website. Would you like to add it to the game listings on the website? If you have any trouble let me know.

Hmm, when attempting to "Save" I get the following error

"You don't have the permission to publish items."
and
"Item saved"

But I don't seem to see it on the "Games" list, does it need to be approved or something?
