Well done everyone else who won an Ultrabook too. I just got my email saying that they've shipped mine as well. My AppGameKit games this year (excluding the money Ive made from them) have got me a free BlackBerry Playbook, and now an Ivy Bridge Ultrabook! Not bad for a £60 investment in the AppGameKit!

Im not content though I want to win this Competition!

Hi,

this competition seems to be a great oportunity to get some free hardware
Glad to here that some people already received their prizes!

I'm thinking about participating, too. But I have a few questions:

1) Is it possible to create an app for this in the trial version of the AppGameKit?
2) Is this competition for Windows 8 apps only?
3) Apps don't need to be in a final state in order to win an Ultrabook in the first competition stage, right?

Eventually you will need to send them a working game that makes use of the ultrabook features, else they have the right to request the hardware back

I'm now through to the second round too, happy days

What happens to the ultrabook after the 3 year loan period, I assume it's then ours?

Quote: "1) Is it possible to create an app for this in the trial version of the AppGameKit?"

I think so but not certain. I am certain that you could submit enough information about your game to get through to round 2, using only the trial version of AGK.

Correct.

No after that time Intel are able to ask for it back and you legally have to. They wont though. They most likely made it a 3 year loan period so that no one would have to pay import tax when they send them out.

My UltraBook is arriving tomorrow.

If you are located in the EU and if the Ultrabook is coming from US you will have to pay import tax. The courier company will ask for import papers and for papers showing the value of the item.

Depending on the courier, you might be able to deflect that and pay nothing, but sometimes these courier & customs people are really hard headed and they won't believe that the item has no commercial value.

I don't think Intel is going to ask for the ultrabook back after 3 years, but legally they could. it's a bit of a scary thought.

However I would worry more on doing an app that really uses the ultrabook sensors, else they can ask for the ultrabook back immediately if you just deliver an app that can run on just any pc with no ultrabook specific features!!

I've also made a small entry into the competition so beware That said, I lost my last one so you've nothing to fear. My plan is to make sure the Windows platform for V108 has the multi-touch and Ultrabook sensors in November in time to compile an app and get it running. For now you can use the commands from BETA2 and test your multi-touch using the iOS platform. You may be using one of the betas to compile and submit your app, but we'll all be in a position to submit and I will post some advice on how to do this closer the time. If we can get someone from our community winning one of the prizes with AppGameKit that will be a huge boon for all of us!!

bjadams my UltraBook was picked up by FedEx in Germany so that shouldnt be an issue.

Right now Im using AppGameKit 1065 to test my game (Im using my PlayBook for testing the multi-touch) With the plan to move to the Beta2 some time before the end of this month.

My game will be using GPS, multi-touch, and the accelerometers on the UltraBook. GPS is not essential for me to release the game.

Hmm I've yet to receive an email saying it is on it's way to me

Meaning the odds of me getting in the first 50 is getting slimmer!
Although as not all ultrabooks have been issued yet, could still be in with a chance, in theory it is a 1 in 6 odds of getting within the first 50 afterall...

With the likes of Lee competing the first 50 is the only goal I can compete with

EDIT: <cough>so I went home at dinner time to find it waiting for me!</cough>

Im not too concerned with being in the first 50. Im willing to take my time to be in with a shot for the main prizes. Even then my game will be a beta release as there a lot of features ill need to leave out to make the Nov 21st deadline. According to FedEx my UltraBook will be with me within the next few hours.

Yes Space Dream Studios just press the skip button on the bottom right corner of the screen.

I just got mine an hour ago. It's really fast and runs the AppGameKit without any issues.

Thanks guys, yes it's running now by just pushing the skip button.... but if you go into the windows setup, it shows "you have to activate windows!" and "your windows is not activated". So win 8 is not activated in a proper way..... Is that a factor to the development?

Has anyone tried getting accelerometer data off one yet? I know there are issues, but I was hoping to get SOME data at least

I have already coded around the touch <10 pixel problem

(all Tier 1) I can go Tier 2 if needs be though

The sensor commands do not work yet on 108.

As far as I know not even single touch click works. You have to double touch to get a click active. Did you manage to solve that too Zeerun?

Solved may be a little optimistic, hacked a workaround maybe. But yes I can register a single click without the need of dragging
I do a comparison of the pointerxy and if there is a marginal difference ( <> 0.1) then that is a click.

Guess I will have to go Tier 2 then.

I assume I could use the windows sdk to get the sensor data and feed that into AppGameKit as variables?
which is the best vs express edition to use?

But what specific RAW command are you using? Not GetPointerPressed right?

No, that won't work. All you can use is the X and Y positions and detect a significant movement from the previous location, and no subsequent movement thereafter. I check that there is only one change of coordinates in a 0.2 second timeframe.

*** There are no Click / Release / Pressed commands available in this process ***

Just got my Ultrabook, very happy with it.

Could any UK Ultrabook winners advise the best way to utilise the US style adaptor. Can I buy a US to UK plug converter or should I buy a completely new adaptor?

Thanks.

Though, there are some weird things with the "license". The first statment says

Tax issue with the loan claus in the contract.

Prize or gift is there tax or customs to.

A loan have no fees at all.

If they find that you not use the ultrabook for anything like making apps that works on it so do i see a reason why they should claim it back.

They will only claim it back if you don't submit an app, or you submit a very simple app with no ultrabook specific features.

I need they have to protect themselves in one way or another.

Mines took 2 days after FedEx picked it up. You have to release an app to the Appup store within 6 months of receiving it or they ask for it back. Great machine (its very fast) though Im not liking Win 8. Why doesnt it have a start menu? Also why does Windows Media Player not come built in when you install the RTM verison?

6 months?
Deadline is mid November not in 6 months.

When does TGC plan to release the Ultrabook specific functions, so that one can decide if there is enough time to enter into this contest or not?

bjadams the deadline for 2nd round of the competition is 21st of November. However the time period to release an app to keep the UltraBook is 6 months. So you could win a UltraBook but fail to have your game ready for the 21st Nov dealine, but as long as you release it within 6 months to the Appup Store your UltraBook is safe.

Lavaflyer I think they send out the UltraBooks on a Monday so you should get your email then. Not everyone has been getting emails though telling them their UltraBook is on the way.
