I'll start tracking down some simple sound effects straight away (footsteps/walking, being hurt etc.)

Just curious, but do you have any in-depth documentation about the code? As I also thoroughly enjoy writing manuals and stuff (I know - I'm odd) and I would be honoured if I was able to do that for you.

Just a thought, that's all (sorry to sound a bit intrusive)

Design docs? This is all we have currently: http://www.prodigygames.co.uk/web/designdocs.htm IMHO you should go for it--a good looking manual is a definate part of a good game. There's nothing worse than min. system, controls, contact in my opinion. Maybe a stragety guide to go along with it? So the team can contribute insider stuff or something.. meh but that'd have to wait until we get something to shoot at in Design docs though, yeah sure! Indepth level ideas, schmetacs (sp? ), weapon sketches, etc....

I think he meant alpha zero's site.

Alpha - We already have a website and web designer, but thanks for offering anyway .

Megaton - What did you mean by apply the lightmap? Doesn't it come with a lightmap applied already?

Delta Commander: It's on the site...(comes with latest demo)

Quote: "Megaton - What did you mean by apply the lightmap? Doesn't it come with a lightmap applied already?"

The level comes with storage.x and storage_lmap.x

storage_lmap.x must be ghosted on storage.x to create the lightmap.
(Make sure to include the ambient light command)

I haven't managed to get it working in the level editor yet (obviously a problem with my coding), but I have combined the lightmap with the base object to make it easier to handle. Attached...

Alpha, on your portfolio (your 'old' site), you have this:
http://photobucket.com/albums/v259/alpha11/?action=view¤t=Ramjet.jpg

However, a quick search on Google reveals that someone else has a higher resolution render, which is identical to yours, and is also offering the .MAX file.

I already noticed this ages ago...alot of dodgy content on his portfolio.

(Expecially the balances in the model quality. I saw this profesionally made rifle, then a model that looked like it carved by a 3 year old who just chugged gasoline.)

Let's no trail off-topic...this thread was plagued with too many accusations of theft...

EDIT: And I should probably say now before some accuses me of fraud or anything that I did *not* make the textures I used in some my levels. (Nor have I taken credit for them for the record)

thanks

Thanks for the offer Mouse Do whatever you like with the theft stuff, but a new thread should probably wait until the new beta, which probably won’t be out until post-exam/compo time. It is getting a little cluttered up, I'll admit... probally the main reason only the project members are posting

i just noticed something's up with the upload scripts still, i'll just email hamish the files and instructions instead of going through megaton, keep the instructions clear then. at the moment there is an old, unpassword prtected upload script on the webspace which will not put the images in the gallery that you upload, i recommend you take that down before someone finds and abuses it, i'll send you a passworded one in the email that will just be for general uploads, and one for the gallery, also pasworded.

Ag, I keep getting these emails of people asking for the same thing...-_-

The new demo is not ready yet I think. Hamish seems to be having some trouble with a level I sent him and I am currently working on a different map...

I do hope it'll be out soon or we'll really be in trouble...

There is an older demo, but the new demo really won't be much different from the old one. It'd be cool to get some animations for one or two guns, with or without hands. Sound effects would be good too, as little things like that make something look polished. GUI art seems to be non-existant, but that is up to DJ.

At the moment characters, basic weapons, physics, very basic online stuff that probably won't work perfectly, bullets and decals are done, I can put particles back in pretty quick. I'm trying to get Megaton's level into the game, but it's proving less than simple :\.

My next priority is to get the music module working, as CPU made it quite a while ago . I think it's time I actually make his hard work worthwhile.

Sorry, but you'll have to be patient as I have exams right now, and half my time is taken up by revision.

Maybe everyone can suggest things that could go in the new demo. Don't go too OTT (nothing like adding vehicles ), but anything plausable can be picked out and maybe put in this demo everyone is waiting for . Start suggesting...

Yeah, DJ has done the GUI (supposedly, just haven't seen it yet

I guess CPU is probably too busy to make a level editor. I will probably update it when needed. I just need to make it be able to place particle effects, player start points, doors (when I put them in) etc. Problem is it's all so much to do and I can't do it all at once. Best thing is to get things done in the right order, and get them done properly otherwise we end up with a mass of useless code that can't be developed any further.

http://www.prodigygames.co.uk/downloads/level.rar

It doesn't have any objects in at the moment as the level editor is going all screwey on me. The darkness was me not adjusting the ambient light . The above download should work with the old demo, as I don't think I've changed anything about the format.

Um...can you help me load it?

I opened data/config.txt changed the "load level" to mega.lvl and I leave the load materials.txt becasue I don't know where that is...and when launched it says "File does not exsist at line 5387". Plus there's still the lightmap to load...

Put the level file, the folder with the objects in, and the phob file in the level editor media folder with all the other stuff (common sense). Then this is what's probably going wrong. Open the Grand Hall.lvl or whatever it is in notepad, and look to see what path the objects have. Then copy the path over to the mega.lvl so that the object in that is referenced via the same path. If that doesn't work, do it for the phob files as well, but I think they should simply be media/file.dbo or whatever.

I think I know why actually. That demo was compiled with a version of DBPro that didn't support the DBO format the way it does now. That's probably why. So either I can upload the version I am using at the moment, or the old version compiled with the latest DBPro. Or you can wait, it's up to you. You can always change the object referenced in the .phob file to the .x object you made (but without the lightmap). The .x object was rather big and I had to scale it down to 1/5th the size so you'd have to scale the .x object down as well.

Anyway, I've spent the good part of today adding in all the things the old demo had, muzzle flashes, particles, decals, plus I've added in perminant code for animations and sounds for reloading and firing, plus I will add some for drawing and replacing weapons. You can now fire at objects again. Tracers are not in, but I may leave them out for a while. They complicated things and I'm pretty sure they were responible for the random crashes in the old version. Music is next on my list. Definitely .
