So multiple matrices doesn't cause a massive slowdown? Thanks. Can't wait for more.

Well, I found they kind of do. It dropped from about 500fps to 200fps when I loaded the matrices. That's the main reason the draw distance is so low. Matrices and particles...

I started this project with no knowledge of terrain etc... but now I wish I hadn't as I'm paying further down the line... ARGGG!
Better luck next time, eh?

You'll be able to buy it via PayPal.

http://www.paypal.com

They accept most major everything if I understand correctly. I may also use WorldPay - the same as the DB website.

Are you sending it physically or as a download? Because I've been pondering over that issue myself, and was thinking of selling it as a download, if at all possible. Much easier on my part, upload, set up an account, and wait and see if the fish bite.

Download.

I've been working alot on the game today, a new demo is on the way by the end of June. Right now my main concern is reorganising code so no news for about a week.

UPDATE: I'm sorry everyone, but after consideration I realised I'm going to have to push the release date back to August 31st.
But, for that extra wait, you'll all be getting an extra level and a fully fledged introduction and ending film.

I looked into some new voice actors for my villain today, (http://www.mikebossard.com is the address of the main villains voice) and I'm buying the cloths and particles pack for the "cape" of my villain. Should be good I'll post pictures when progress is made.

I'm in no hurry, so I can wait. Just don't push the release date back again. This is the first game porgramed in DB I've ever seriously considered buying!

Everything looks great so far, especialy the new level, and your updates are good.

You also mentioned that the train ride level was very cool...
Do you have any screens?

Thanks Bizar Guy!

The train ride is very cool, but it's not completed yet. The collision at the moment on the carriages is terrible to say the least and a lot of the graphics are placeholders. No screens yet!

I'm really just working on bugs, as said, at the moment. I have three consecutive days coming up that I've devoted to non stop work on the project, so I should have something to show off in the not too distant future.

@ Young Programmer: I'll look into that in the next demo.

Alright, I don't know if I should post this, but what the hell!

This is the voice for my enemies, but I haven't paid him yet (and I will pay him a bonus at that because he is very co-operative and in my opinion gave an excellent performance) so I shouldn't really be showing anyone - but I'm pretty pleased with it, so, hey!

Dumbo and Cool, of course

I've been working on the introduction film today... looking pretty good. Anybody interested in a bit of the finished thing, check out below! (sound is not done!!!!)

INTRO FILM, WMV: http://www.drewsgames.com/temp/WMV.wmv
400k, wip

The introduction film tells the story of how Dumbo's pals got trapped in those cages, introduces the villain and will be fully voice acted etc... Whilst the final thing will weigh down the game download(16mb, anyone?), it's going to be too cool not to include

I also plan to put versions of the game with lower quality films for download, and perhaps a multiple small downloads version for 56K buyers.

Well, that's only the first three shots out of a planned 35
Cool comes in exactly after what you watched...

I'm looking into my main villain voice right now, Mike Bossard, (http://www.mikebossard.com). As soon as I get the villain voice over, (the last one I've got to get), I'm laughing as far as cut-scene creation goes

Intros make a nice touch to games methinks.
You say this intro will make the filesize much bigger... which means you're including the wmv file presumablee? Wouldn't it be easier/smaller to code the cutscenes in?

Well;
I did give it a shot, but found many, many problems:

Lots of extra work for me; it wouldn't be easy the way my game is coded.
Sticking a big load of code into the program, adding to it's size unneccesarily and slowing it down.
"Pre rendering" them allows for more explosions and effects than a "real time" version
I can load different scenes, instantly in a WMV intro
I can use fades and disolves
A WMV file will play at the same speed on all computers, music will always be in time etc... If it were coded, it may slow down on some bits and the sound would go out of sync for a moment etc...

A lot of reasons - coding it is just not suitable for this project.

The films should now add about 7mb to the file size. That's a bit better The full games file size shouldn't top 30mb.

@ STALKER: How (un)funny.

@ young programmer: It's going good... nay, great! I'm moving onto working on Levels 5 and 6, rewriting enemies. I've redone alot of textures to make them seamless. Alot really...

Screens when I've got them!

I've been emailing Chronic Logic, the creators of "Gish" http://www.gishgame.com about including the Gish character in a cameo role in Dumbo and Cool. They agreed but want to see the final build before giving me absolute permission.

Yeah, like I said: using Gish should be fine as stands with them.

I'VE FINISHED THE VOICE ACTING FOR THE INTRODUCTION MOVIE!

That means I'll be working on the intro movie loads more from now on.

I found a compression type for the game's movies which means it'll be 2mb for every minute of film, full screen quality!

Train and factory level screenshots on the way - not alot of visual progress in the other levels, except a few new textures and models, but alot of engine improvements.

It's done using Studio 9:

Windows Media Video, 328 x 288, 44Khz audio - something around that area should produce similar results. I'm still messing around with the exact trade off between audio and video!

It looks crap in Windows, full screen, but in DB it plays well because the screen resolution that Dumbo and Cool runs in is low!

Okay, tonights updates are lame, but;

The helicopters featured in the introduction movie look thus:
( Model kindly given by VanB )

Here is one flying over Happy Valley (looks good in motion):
BTW - This is a concept test, it will be part of the introduction film eventually

And here is a very WIP shot of the train level. I'm still building / working on it, and I don't post stuff until it's presentable, but everyone keeps nagging so I thought I'd show this to prove it's under way

The Gish concept shot, shows what he will look like in game. This is not his actual location in the game, but the level he will be in is not completed yet;

More updates, very soon!
I'm still working hard, but it's a busy time for me with other things as well, which is why this update was lame.

Also, for those interested, what I've to do, before the next demo update.

Enemies - they are getting sub machine guns and new animations
All new, in game voice acting
Gunning puzzle in level 3
Introduction film
Improve level 1 and 2
Main menu and options
Puzzles levels, more of them

And I'm entering the private test this weekend, which should spot alot more problems! Stay tuned...

Thanks man,

The private test begins on Saturday, I hope your ready as there's alot of criteria to check, and some of the levels are very rough and ready The upside to being a tester is you get to see all the stuff above in action a couple of months before anyone else ^_^

Curious if he will just be in game for sake of cool cameo, or will he actually have some kinda puzzle based around him :? Or will we just have to wait and see
