Cheers!

P.S. This image through Photobucket.. (slow site for me, takes 5 min to upload a pic and get confirmation.)

I'm kinda following this thread ... is there going to be an artist challenge again? 2d and 3d ... seems like a great chance for community to get media and artist to share visions.

I'm too new to start one ... should someone more senior do an artist challenge either here or in 2d or 3d forums?

If you are going through hell, keep going.

Heres a texture I did for a crate. I'm a programmer, not a 2D artist, but I can do some basic things.

There is some sharp edges that is quite noticable when on an object that needs cleaned up.

Hey david. Me pestering you again, sorry. I have a very specific request, and you stated you like those, so here it goes. Warning, if you dont want to do a gui, just say NO, and I will stop asking you
:

GUI request to David.

Stated Reason:
I am no artist, like most people, but this is a project I really want to work on, which I hope will be good enough to become a fan boy project related to Malfador. I showed you the demo, and you saw that it was horrific. The GUI stunk. I did updated the menu, so not much there.

Concept:
Pic Attached.
You cant really read it, but oh well. I will need 2 windows, small windows, and space for the menu(where you select what you want). The top has the race flag, and name. The info bar contains turn, fps, year, and AGE (Before Light, Star Era, or Dark Ages). The end turn button will end turn, going to sitrep. I would like the gui to be metallic glossy color, and the window should be black. Pure black. No text or anything you put down should be black, as that is the transparent color. The stated dimensions for this gui should be 800x600. Use JPG for the save file. Logo at the bottom is for Starfleet logo, but you may certianly put "Made By David Gervais"

Specific enough

As soon as I finished that concept, I started a cleaner version. Dont make those black. Only the personal notes, and the planet model thing. It was just so it would stand out

OK ... I know it wasn't me you asked but I was bored so I thought I would have a go and besides, it might take some of the work load of David

Here is the image with a space background. Just to show how it would look in game. If you click the Download button you will get a PNG file with a transparent background

Note: Photobuckets have automatically resized the image above but if you download it, it will be 800 x 600

And here is a different version of the 'End Turn' button. You could use this one when the mouse is NOT over it and the green one to show that the mouse IS over it.

If you want any modifications doing to it, just let me know

[Edit] And as I am feeling especially generous (or especially bored) I have included some code to show the mouse over effect in action.

Wow, lots of action while I was sleeping (maybe I should sleep more often )

The crate texture is nice, only comment is it might be a little too orange for my taste.

Yay! We got another artist who can help with requests, and post original game bits. Keep up the good work Scraggle and welcome aboard. (btw you just made a more impressive entrance than my original first post in this thread, lol )

Now where was I? Did a request slip through my fingers? (Yes I'm too lazy to flip back a few pages.)

Cheers!

Super Duper Minimalist art media Challenge

See that silver ball? Ever hear of plinko? Or the random-odds ball drop test? (pyramid of pins that the ball drops off with a 50-50 chance of dropping left or right when it hits a pin.) Or think you can turn it into a skittle ball? Pinball? Chrome bowling ball? Cannon ball?...

Challenge: Surprise me with what you can do with just this tiny sprite.

Deadline: 10 Days (ends Jan 27th at midnight)

Prize 1 custom bitmap (you tell me what you want)

Begin... and have fun!

Cheers!

I will probly make a demo. is that ok?

Isn't that the ball you used in the breakout tileset?

Also is that the ONLY image I can use? Or can I use other images I can find?

I haven't checked the thread lately, been busy with school and other activities. The tetravex tiles you last posted were great, the other ones I want badly aswell. (just without the "WORK IN PROGRESS" over it and without numbers.)

I think I have enough for a "ULGC, ULtimate Game Collection" pack.

The games listed below I will make remakes of with all the images you have posted

Pong
Breakout
Some kind of RPG
Card games
Chess
Checkers
Tetris
Galaga
PacMan
Mahjong
SideScroll (haven't decided what)
Casino
Several Word Games
Pipeline
NueveTetre (TetraVex)

= needs name
= name decided (original game in "(" and ")" so you can know what it is)

If you can come up with some names, that would be great and board/retro games you can think of that aren't in that list would be appreciated, also I need some card games. I will just post a small "let-the-community-know" post for now.

Let me know what you think!

,.. not same ball as in the breakout tiles,.. yes what you make with the ball is up to you, demo, game etc.. The trick is to have only the ball as a sprite or bitmap. you can 'draw' stuff if needed, but the only external media is the ball, the whole ball and nothing but the ball.

Westray, did you try using the background or are you requesting a change simply based on seing the background? try it first, sometimes with the playing pieces in place it changes the whole feel and look of the background. I think the colors I used for the gems will help make the background less visible, it is after all a background. If there are too may bright colors then the background will be in conflict with the playing pieces. it's a mistake many games have, the background is too 'busy' and becomes a distraction.

Cheers!

it took me FOREVER to figure this one out, on your website, in the rpg tilesets, I downloaded, extracted, not all the files extracted, I found which ones didn't extract, so I manually copied and pasted them and all, I had to test each file and I finally figured out which file was causing all this mess.

Not all of it extracts when you try to extract it right? so town032.gif is corrupt and that is causing the mess. Could you just give me that seperate, non-corrupted file?

Ok, I checked the zip and you are right the town032.gif is corrupted.. I attached a new version of my rpg tiles here. It's a 900k zip so I'm guessing there are more tiles inside, Enjoy.

Cheers!

P.S. I would have uploaded it to my site but I still cannot get FTP access to do any maintenance

Edit, All my tiles can be viewed and downloaded here..

ok uhh thanks. The RPG Tileset is actually quite better now. I am making an RPG in my ULGC pack so good to see that it is no longer corrupted. Now I want to ask for something more complicated. I would like a website design. LOL only joking although I kind of do need one now. http://madman1337.ftpaccess.cc/darkbasicproguy

Anyways thanks for the RPG tileset.

I go with centipede

Centipede? hmmm,... are you sure it's not Millipede? lol

I'm not gonna work on websites, I can't even update mine. (I no longer get an error due to name and password, it just does not let me in. can't connect eror!) Oh well, it will eventually get fixed or I'll just let the site fade and die due to being unable to maintain it. It's almost like it was too good to be true,.. and to think I got an e-mail saying the site is bigger and better, with 2gig of space and unlimited bandwidth.

I have more important things in life to worry about.

Nuf said, Cheers!

hmrph I still have access to mine, they must have given the upgrade to you only, I do not have the 2gb thing. I still only have 1gb. Maybe they upgraded to be generous to you and lost your password in the process. If they don't find it in 1 month or so just ask if they will delete the current one, you can save all the files you had before. Then just create a new one.

What happened, is Madman just updated his server. NOw its faster, safer, secureer. Though, he now had to fix FTP for all users. (Or so I though). So, really I hope you stay with madman. His services are unbeatable. YOu just have to bear with him for a while.

With madman, I saw that he was upgrading his service and asked that we all send out username and password info so he could build a database. I got the news in reply to the email where I resent my name and password info. But 2gig, or 10gig or 100gig is all quite meaningless since I get a 'Cannot connect' error when I try to log in. Before it kept asking me for my user name as if it had forgotten who I am, now it does 3 atempts to login and gives the Cannot connect message.

Anyways, I feel like a pest when I send him emails, and it seems to take a week for a reply anyways, so I'll just wait, and like I said, it will either get fixed or I'll just abandon it. Since it's a free service I feel I have no right to complain. Life is strange that way.

I'm still laughing at the forums not letting me use DavidGervais as my username, it says "David" is a reserved name. lol

Anyways, I'm glad it's working for you. I'll check his forums again in case the ftp address or something else has changed.

Cheers!

Lol, because my name's David also. Well, I don't think he has FTP setup yet. So if you can connect to FTP, I'd love to see the address to see if my log-in works. And it did that with me when it first started. IF you're using those online ftp things, I found my password went wrong when I used those. Otherwise, thing haven't went wrong since I stopped using online fpt access things (such as net2ftp.com).

Anyway, do you have other comments on XFighter before I coninue with the progress (I fix all little pests to people then add to it).

Dabip, I guess I need to run over to your WIP thread to grab the latest copy of XFighter. THe last version I played was too fast and I posted about that.

Cheers!

EDIT: I just grabbed and checked XFighter, The movement speed is better but still fast on my comp.

This set of minimal sprites was inspired by Tinkergirl's old Coding Challenge entry. Perhaps she might see this and update her game. (I could even be pursuaded to make a background pic to go with these sprites)

You didn't like the ASCII? Aw, and people were so impressed with my l33t ASCII skillz.

jk

I'll try to modify it when I get a minute - it'd be nice to let the player decide which graphical style they wanted - retro ascii, or rather impressive sprites. Thanks David.

about madman's ftp down, doesn't work for me either, though I did ask him about it,

Yes, I am currently aware of the problem with FTP being down and I am currently working on it. I am really sorry that FTP has been down for a while and I hope I can get it up and running soon.

BTWW. DDavid, what programs do you use? Artgem, Anim8or, Bryce, right?

I searched for artgem, didn't find it, bryce costs too much, and anim8or I got and I like it, but the bump thing doesn't work which is a drawback for me. Also I made this in Anim8or.

Yes indeed, I got artgem just before they pulled it from the market. If ever I get enough money I'd love to invest in RLVision to continue dev of this fantastic program. It puts PSP to shame when it comes to ease of use. I can do much of the same things in PSP but it takes 30min where in Artgen it takes 30 seconds.

The Tools I have installed and use are as follows..

Artgem, Paint Shop Pro 8 (With lots of plugins like the ones frorm Flamingpear), Bryce 5.5 (From DAZ), Anim8or, (I use Lithunwrap when I need to do UV Mapping)

Cheers!

P.S. Tinkergirl, I never said I didn't like your ascii art, I think your frogger game was/is fantastic and was well deserving of the 'Winner' status.
