@The Full Metal Coder Roxas: Ookey-dookey! I'll try to think of a way... Btw, nice video! (Say..... Who sang the music? Sounds like Namie, but probably not her...)

Oh, yeah! I almost forgot (again...) When you grab the enemy, press the R mouseclick again to swing the enemy before throwing... Heheh... (sorry...)

WOW! Seriously, that's incredible. I feel lucky that I'm in the US now that I've desided to re-enter... You're one of the very few people I've ever seen on these forums that I'm not sure I can out-style with the game-art level I'm at now...

And that is by far the best looking gameplay I seen in the compo thus far. In fact, it's some of the best I've seen on the forum.

I tip my hat to you.

I just realised something after re-reading some posts here:
In my opinion, my game is lame... In gameplay, it only requires you to look for an enemy and slash all the way and look for the elevator to go up until you reach the top... In graphics, i've seen many entries here with better graphics than I have... They even got better shaders while I use the basics...
So my point is: Don't expect something great in my game... It may turn out boring, repetitive and lame...
But that doesn't mean i'll stop the project. I really need another computer badly!

@Bizar Guy: Don't be so lucky though... There's Junkrock... O_O'

You night not see it in your game, but the amount of style is really amazing. The way everything flows is great. With the proper gameworld, you've got a winner. I can't critique how it actualy plays though, as I can't currently get to my gaming comp.

Edit: and you can see my comments in Junkrocks thread. My position is complicated over there, and I'm too tired to explain it. And he's not in the US anyways, so I'm good.

@Tony Edwards: TY! She changes clothes from white to black and vice versa... Unfortunately it's not so obvious since she's small in the screen... So I guess i'll remove it...
@Bizar Guy: Oh, yeah... I forgot he's UK... You're still lucky I guess!
@The Full Metal Coder Roxas: Pretty unusual to hear Ayumi with lower tone of voice... Thanks btw!

Don't remove it, just make some sort of flash so you can recognize it's happening. Or maybe they're too similar. I can't say until I try it, but that's a pretty cool idea.

The demo was almost great! The movement felt a little off and it felt a little klunky to me. It was still really cool and the media is incredible.

Oh, okay.

I agree with Bizar Guy, you don't have to remove it; it's a cool idea, but I didn't get it immediately. As this is only a demo maybe it would have been more apparent later. That and I've been told I'm... s l o w.

Check out this article on Gamasutra about Principles of Virtual Sensation. Particularly page 6 (which I've linked). It gives an interesting breakdown of the power slide in Mario Kart DS as an example of great "state change".

@Bizar Guy: I'm gonna do something different with her clothes... So i'll just have to show the difference by flashing the current color and changing her cloth's color instead of animating...
@TEH_CODERER: Yeah, kinda choppy cuz I didn't used "set object interpolation" in any animations... (DMC3 style)
@Tony Edwards: Wow! This is a good tip! Thanks!

The gameplay is very smooth. The animation is excellent and everything is well modelled. The characters are unique, too.

You misunderstand; the animation was pretty much perfect! I meant the actual controlling wasn't as good as I hoped. It is still great but it could be a little better.

Long time no post!
Our phone-line is in maintenance for now, so I rarely visit this week... But when our phone-line is back, i'll give some screenies!

Current update:
Remodel of the main character (Still WIP)
Redesign of controls (Still WIP)
Redesign of her weapon (Currently have only 9 parts)
1 added enemy (Lady Statue)
2 added magics (Fire & Thunder)
Very few actions added (Mainly on gun holding/firing)
Excluding the "Village" idea... (So no more artworks... aww...)

I don't have much updates though... So i'm not planning on releasing another demo yet... Not until I think I have lots to show... I'm aiming for more enemies, actions, and improving this darn collision!

@TEH_CODERER: I'll try... Making a new gameplay user-friendly simply gives me some headaches...

The coding of an action battle system really isn't that hard. What makes or breaks it is the animation and this guys modelling and animation are amazing! If Mike doesn't have time to help you then let me know and I'll try to help you on the coding side of things.

Oh. I believe Cash Curtis II posted some code in Code Snippets which does that. I went a step further and made my own animation system from scratch.

Our phone-line's still down, but that didn't stop me on posting some screenies!
These screenshots are in full graphics, so they're pretty slow... But it can be removed, giving me 60+ fps in my computer (depending on the quantity of the enemies)

December 18 updates:

Thunder (Wee, thunder!)

Low Health (This screenshot is pretty blurry... But in the game, not all the time)

Fire (The higher the level, the more fires that will surround you!)

December 22 Updates:

Lost souls (Expect many of these in the game... And this view also shows her big-- ahem...)

Fire + Weapon (The weapon can be changed by parts. This screenshot shows that the weapon is more like a gun than a sword)

Another Thunder (I like it! Cuz it's vertical, instant, and powerful!)

Still not so great though... But at least the plan of the game is almost complete. If I think I will have time, I might add another character. (not playable, but rather an enemy) He/she is a rival of the main character on getting the treasure. If anyone's interested, what gender would you like him/her to be? (I vote for male, cuz it'll look all-girls if it would be another girl... The down part is that i'm not good at men!)

@The Full Metal Coder Roxas: I do it by frame. If the girl's frame is in the state that she attacked (if object frame(id)=blah blah), the slash object will now appear and positioned to her weapon. The slash object has the collision data in order to hit the enemies... I use Sparky's collision plugin... I can't live without it!
I wish that could help ya!

@eek: Thanks!

@Supremacy: I'll think about it... Cuz i'll have to change the code of the player's movements and add another animation for her to turn around...

By the way, Merry Christmas! (Although it's already 27) And just want to announce that there will be another character... But she may not be included in the demo i'll release soon...

I completely agree with this comment. Mike Inel's game looks AMAZING... but I'm not backing out... not now, not ever. Its no one's fault but their own if they quit without trying.

Use his game as an inspiration to try harder, not a deterrent.

Yay! Our phone-line's back! Unfortunately I already gave the screenshots... So no surprise... Sorry.....

@Cash Curtis II: I thought no one would notice that question I asked... But the 2nd character is already in development. Luckily she have "bigger, more visible cleavage" according to the design... lol! Btw, i'm just a lil curious... Are you really in Japan?

Nah, too late... I already modelled her without her naked breasts... There won't be any "no clothes" cheat according to the other's requests... (Aww.....)

I must say, forum members here are perverts, but as we're on that subject, the big boobs thing has been done a million times, all I want, is for that character to have a good personality and like the same things as me and then just maybe I might fantasise being with her

I really hope you continue this after the compo... The visual effects and models are better than a lot of big budget games. I hope you can make the levels look just as interesting. You have a much better art sense than most.

I don't see why this should discourage anyone. This just makes me want to make my game better. I think I'm going to have to put a lot more focus into shaders than I thought. At first I was thinking of only adding a slight bloom. Now I think I'll be putting in a few more.

Yep, on an American military base.

I don't think so... I was hoping to make it as crazy as Gears of War, but failed to simply have them with normal maps...

Actually in the november update, there's only 2 shaders I put... heheh... And this time there's only one...

I don't get it... Nobody in this forum's gay right?

Is anyone interested of seeing some WIP shots of the 2nd character?

I don't see how it would matter. But statistically, I'm sure there are some of every sexual orientation. I know at one point there was a forum member that was a lesbian.
