Shaders

I did a clean install of v1.0, installed v1.07 and re-installed model packs 1-6. Then made a test level with shaders on and with shaders off. You can see the results.

I've not heard back from Lee yet, but I'd say shaders do work with the original and the current releases. As soon as I get a response from Lee, I'll make my decision on whether or not shaders will be a point category.

Shaders Off:

The door is the only thing that has a shader assigned. So it's the only thing you're going to see a difference on. The point is that shaders work.

The door is an entity. I haven't tried it on characters using v1.07, but I know it worked with v1.05 on Aiko.

Again, after I hear from Lee, I'll post my decision. The category is only 10 points and it's for use of shaders, not creation of shaders. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Wow, this is an amazing competition that I'm definitely going to enter. Do you have any ideas of how many entries you might be getting?

Just a quick question:

- Do you want us to/will we get more points if we make this into a fully-fledged miniature game, i.e. with intro sequences, storyline, etc.?

Thanks very much

P.S. Your Phoenix Game Protection looks AWESOME! I'll certainly be using that in my next project.

One more thing from me: to submit our game, we make a thread, right? A new thread under which forum? And, do we say "Here is my entry: (forum link goes here)", somewhere on this thread so that you know?

Thanks

A few weeks before the deadline, I will set up an FTP site for your submissions or accept submissions from your servers.

You may create a game "progress thread" in the Showcase forums to get an extra 20 points. In the title of the tread, but "PGPS Winter Contest Entry". For example:

DarkFaction VI - PGPS Winter Contest Entry

or

PGPS Winter Contest Entry - My Groovy Game

And yes, once you do this, a link to the thread in THIS thread would be helpful.

And can I use programme for FPSC - Game Cover 2?
And can I show the game as a trailer in youtube?

I don't know about Game Cover 2. If it's a pre-loader, then no. Your game must be unpacked, and launched from its natural state...ie, from the fpscgame.exe (ie, yourgamename.exe).

If you have a different use of Game Cover 2, then tell me how you plan to use it.

About youtube, it's your game and you can showcase it however and wherever you like!

Yeah... well it's very rough right now and I mean bare-butt rough.
As soon as I get some contacts in and get Steam back up and running with all my updates then I can map out my game level. Also my story has been patched up here and there so it makes more sense.

How does Steam help you do this? Is there a tool or something? Just curious.

Sorry for the double post:

I just thought about this. We're not allowed to use media created before the contest began, but we are allowed to use media from models packs that were released before the competition started? Alot of my media from my level is from our first model pack (which we only released to a few select people at the moment), but I can;t use it because of the contest start date.

Right and although it doesn't sound right at first, it's sound.

You are not allowed to use unique, custom media that only you have access to which was made prior to contest start. All media packs currently for sale that were made before the contest start are available to everyone. Which gives us a level playing field.

EDIT: As I said before there is a loophole here: You can re-create the media and use it. That's the same loophole that was used by some for other contests. As long as you create or re-create it after the start date, then you don't have an unfair advantage.

Do it again. I know you want to participate and win and I want you to have fun. The rules are set forth so that everyone has the same starting point with the same advantages and disadvantages. If I was to allow, say rolfy to enter his game, would that be fair to someone who bought FPSC yesterday and entered the contest today?

I hope you understand, man.

If the winners game makes it on the BOTB you can't put the link up there because it might get published and then, in turn, sold. But sounds good though if your just mentioning them.
