Hi Roxas,

I have the Raiken model and we have every intention of including him in TGC Heroes. We had discussed me UV mapping him, but I really am pressed for time lately. Is there any way that you could create the UV map? It would help speed up getting him in.

I plan to use most of my time getting the code in place for a demo, so that I can get everything ready as soon as possible (there is a lot to do yet). Therefore, while we still are gathering new characters and arenas continually, I am not working to install them in the game until the demo is complete.

So, once I have the demo ready, I will work on animating Raiken. btw, were you ever able to put together a WIP with Raiken (I am just curious).

In addition to Raiken, we plan to add another character and three arenas to TGC Heroes shortly after the demo is done.

Best,

LB

Yeah, now that I think about it I remember this conversation from before. Okay, we'll see about getting him UV mapped after the demo is done. If I can't do it, maybe one of the other TGC Heroes team members can.

Thanks! Our next goal is a polished demo.

Unless there are issues with the model (and I don't expect any) I see no reason why Raiken won't be included, it will just take longer to get him mapped properly.

Upcoming: TGC Heroes - Beta Demo
The team is working to get a playable demo with a limited range of characters and levels for everyone to play. This is practically to be considered an open beta, so that we can tweak and balance stuff a bit. We don't have a real ETA, but we're thinking pretty soon, maybe a week or a few.

I wish I had a fancy image, or a video, but I don't. Maybe if the intro is finished we'll have some new eye-candy... Who knows.

The vid was cool. The character moves were planned out long ago and we are not looking to add any additional attacks. Every character has 23 different animations, all but 6 are actual attacks. Each character has air attacks as well as ground attacks. An individual smash attack is afforded to every player too.

We chose to give TGC Heroes something that was not in SSB, something we thought would be cool to put in. Each player has what is known as a 'smash meter' which is visible on-screen during gameplay. The smash meter is increased when you put the hurt on your opponents and is dependent on the damage that you inflict. [i.e. if you are going to simply punch your opponent it will take 'forever' to build up.) The smash meter starts off as red, then turns yellow and when full, turns green (this way, you can quickly look at it and know your status). Once the smash meter is full, each player has an UberPwnage attack available at their discretion, which packs enough force to likely send your opponents packing out of the arena. The Pwnage attack varies by character.

Cheeseburger, for example, unleashes a Mustard Gas attack for his pwnage; a yellow cloud makes its way out from him, pwning any opponent that is unlucky enough to get in its way.
Drew's pwnage has him quickly grow to ginormous size as he flails three fireballs at his opponents.
Though it is still being worked on, Kez will have lightning eminate from his raised sword, a cloud will then send bolts of lightning to zot nearby opponents - (honey, is that burnt toast I smell?)
Stripe's pwnage has his claws grow to mega-size, while he twists to supremely whack nearby opponents.

Each character can run and can perform a dash attack. They also can grab and toss an opponent. Cool can actually carry a grabbed opponent on his back (with some fancy joysticking/keypressing). Some characters will actually spin around with a grabbed opponent before tossing them away. Additionally, the players will be able to pick up and use items (Ray Gun, sword, foam bat (pfft), hammer, etc.)

As you can see, there is plenty of action available in the game and additional attacks will not be pursued.

Kindof a self-deprecatory comment there.

We could use a better version of John's hot dog. I made a temp version just for show, but it could be modeled with less polies and better textures. It would need to be in .x format.

Thanks,

The sword looks cool. Can you send me the model & UV map? If it was stretched to make it longer (for consistency with his other sword), Raiken could use it for his UberPwnage attack.

Thanks alot,

As far as I know, we're not taking any new player characters for now, UNLESS they're really special ones. Sorry.

While we aren't accepting any new battling characters right now, we have planned for what we call 'Monster Mode' to where a single character takes on a series of monsters one at a time in order to advance to the final boss monster. We are still accepting characters for this part of the game, though it will be a while before it is completed. So, if you have something awesome that could be deemed a monster, let us know and we will consider it. BTW, we have enough dragons already.

As I recall, for combat mode we planned for 20 and we should end up around that for the final build. We have 12 fully animated characters in place now (in the pic above) with 4 characters waiting to be animated. We have chosen six of our current characters to appear in the demo we are working on (though all 12 will at least have a cameo appearance). We are investing our time and energy into getting the demo ready. Perhaps we will be able to squeeze another character or two into it. We'll see.

I just thought I'd point out, that John doesn't have lots of hair, and wears his dungeries the right way round.

John's 'dungarees' have been corrected. In fairness, he was built based on pics that are distant and it was a little tough to tell. The texture you provided was used for his head/hair texture. It has been a while, but it seems like when it was applied to the sphere, it made him look like he was balding with hair on the sides only, so some additional hair was added. I can see if I can play around with the texture to give him a haircut.

I have been working on UberPwnage moves for Kel, Kez and Nutt. Nutt's Uber move includes help from some of his buddies:

We have decided to make Mr. Bear an alternate character for Nutt and to switch them at the UberPwnage move. The plan is for Mr. Bear to take Nutt and fling him toward the other characters (like a pinball sortof), resulting in major damage to them. Owl then will take the other character off screen. The Uber move is not complete yet, but it is getting there.

Mr. Bear is completely animated already. Don't leave home without the plunger. Thanks to KYP for his cool characters.

Kel's Uber move has boxes appear above the heads of his opponents, falling upon them. We hiked up the damage when the boxes connect, because if someone has lightning fast reflexes, they might be able to avoid them. I may tweak this some yet.

Kez's Uber has lightning extend from his sword. The lightning then rains down on his opponents, giving them a shocking experience.
