High polygon progress on lizardman (anyone think of a better name, oblivion had something like 'argonion' or like that, thinking if there is anything better to call it?)

this chap will have a tribal shield and spear with a very crude look kind of swampy.

updating first post in a bit with progress.

It was a Argonian but as a enemy it was called a Daedroth.

Love it

Also, will there be a model without wep and shield so it could be used in a Sci Fi game, also will these be for sale outside of FPSC, because i could see the lizard man being a alien in my scifi mmorpg.

Looks great Jon! A real lizard might not have this, but if he had a string like hair or skin that looked like a long string running down the side of each check (like japanese gotte) it would give him more realistic/ personality. I look forward to how you create/ make his eye's look real/ alive.

All the best,

These are amazing!! I just stumbled on this thread, and I thought these models were un-believeable.

I don't know how you got that amazing texture, do you use normal mapping? If not, it might add more detail.... I am not sure how to use it, just I have heard of it, and it might save some time.

Good Job!

@programing maniac

you can tell if there is normal mapping do you see the top half of the model looks like it has a whole bunch of different angless used to produce a sort of aged wrinkle look well he is using normal mapping there.

Normal mapping makes the normals face different angles to make a low poly mesh look more detailed with out using more polies.

if you wanna no more just ask maybe jon has a better description for you

Hookkshot that model that he posted the render of has no normal map on it as it IS the thing that he is going to generate the normal map from, that model is basically the high poly version that he is going to generate the normal map from.

For a name, take the "liz" out of "Lizard" and call then "Zardians". Naming is not rocket science,.. but making a Zardian warrior, Zardian Scout, Zardian Mage, Zardian Chief and the many other hords of Zardians IS Rocket Science.. trust me, it really IS.

LoL.. Just peeked in after a long absence, Keep up the fantastic work Jon.

Cheers!

@Jon- I'm really loving the reptilian. ALthough, one concern I'm not sure if it's done yet the spear, but if it isn't finished I would make the tip look like it was a sharp bone that was the point. Have you ever seen Jeepers Creepers 2 the shurikens he used were made of humans bones and adding a flavor/ modelling trick to the top of the spear would really bring the wepaon to life.

You have done a great job though.

Best,

Beastegargoyle

I'll stop you there beast e gargoyle, and anyone else thinking the same thing

the spear is just a 'prop' in the screenshot to mimic the position of a weapon, I'd never leave it like that

thanks for the comments.

Just a question, out of curiosity, what resources did you use for learning to UV map and texture - they're my 2 biggest weaknesses and I've never been able to rectify them. (except UVMapping heads)

And of course Jon, looks good as always mate.

also with a little adjustment, could be a monk/preacher of some sort.

still very wip, the chest wont be so bare etc. etc. and most of the work will be in the texture to give it that corrupted look.

Quote: "what resources did you use for learning to UV map and texture "

UV mapping is easy, the best way i think i can put it in a couple words is just to try not and do it all at once, but only map what you can see, then stitch it together later.

I didn't use any resources to aid in learning how to UV map or more specifically texture (UV map, i suppose a few initial tutorials, but these can be found anywhere or simply packed with the program your using)

texturing i think just takes time to nail your own preferred method of accomplishing certain effects, but very little tutorials can really give you the hint you may need to know exactly what.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help, heh, i get these questions alot yet i don't think I've ever been able to justify a right answer

Not a problem, apologies if getting asked too often is annoying, but it's interesting to hear other people's methods of doing things - but I'm sure people are relieved that the answer to the question is: "I bought a load of stuff from the Gnomon workshop to help me learn". I'm sure I'll find my way - I tend to observe works in progresses (Places like CGtalk) and I see how some people do it - I suppose I have to get up and actually do a proper run of it.

Cheers.

Also, nice necromancer - looking around the thigh area,) the area is a bit 'boxy' if you catch my drift, personally I don't think the thighs will stick out so square. As for the poly flow, I'm not sure if the thigh polies should lead down or should stay square, normally for cloth I lead it lead down, but see if you can the thigh from being too squares without changing your edge flow.

Enjoy!

Ahh, I see, well all is forgiven then. I suppose it'll become a lot more obvious once it's textured, but looking at it with that in mind I can see how it works.

I suppose it's better to look like a necromancer than the other thing...the other thing I've found girls find more amusing than the blokes...scary.
