Been doing some other things, but anyways, started the model a couple days back and here it is:

That leaves all the weapons complete so i will be showing the progress on the arms next

(arms themselves will be a couple more 'weapons' i.e. spells, melee, and throwing stones hehe )

So I'm guessing some kind of spiked super stone?

One can assume that throwing said object would brutally destroy its target.

Others will die also.

Personally, I'd like to see ordinary bows from you. Good old, OOT style bows. In-case someone decides it would be great to make a Zelda fan game. Called Frelda or something stupid like that because Nintendo are gits about fan games.

That would be sweet, I've seen a lot of 2D zelda games on the net though.

Really nice! I hope I can use this in my game. I was wondering if you have any pics with the player holding and using the weapons?

Haven't got these animated and in fpsc yet, will be doing that after i have completed the hands (work in progress, i'll show some time soon)

--

Dominance War comp has come around once again and i will be participating in it again (hopefully with a piece finished by deadline )

http://www.dominancewar.com

Did the first mini-comp for fun too, it was to make a war general portrait from an SDK (without modifying the mesh provided)

Gonna try and get the arm done for the weapons before the next mini comp starts.

Last year i didn't finish my character by the deadline, had some annoying technical issues with my computer and simply put, it took way too long to do a basic task.

i consider it the ambient color which would come from a skylight, and it works well in dark areas, i think i haven't gone too overboard with how saturated it looks though.

it should look very nice in game (and colored lights will flush it out anyway)

look at the image closely, not only at the dark parts of the character, but the bevels on the sword too, a little color goes a long way

imho opinion there are more 'blue shadows' than black, because everything is sky-lit

but if your still iffy about it, just consider it my style of texturing.

EDIT:

I did not make that model

EDIT 2:

Will get back to this in a bit, but basically its just dodge and burn layers like everything else to make the dents/cuts

AHA ! I see your point now , I never thought about texturing that far.
But I see it does give a great result , that dwarf feels like he belongs there . So I guess I switch to coloured shadows from now on

Thanks for the info , and can't wait for that little basic wood tutorial.

@Jon: I seen some other entries over at Polycount for that DWVI mini comp, looks like it may be a tough comp, but hey, I can't wait to see the entries for DWVI, last years was amazing.

No hands huh. O well. When do you think you will be done with these packs? I'm going to by the first one but I need the real people not monsters in my games. I was hoping to have chuck's butter knife in it to lol. Also is their a reason you don't update the front pages or did you forget?

what?

i haven't updated the first page in a while because i was doubting anyone was actually referring to it.

i'll do it soon.

hands done, rigged, and ready for animation, completed animations for two weapons so far, the dagger and hatchet

as the image states the grip around the hatchet has been changed (just cant run fpsc at the moment to get another shot lol) i doubt anyone really cares, it was just picking at me to change it.

though a single frame of an idle animation in game isn't the best presentation, just showing you guys some progress if nothing else

will have a video when more weapon animations are completed.

The hatchet strikes down from above, then moves to the left of the screen for a forceful cleave to the right.

The dagger is drawn back, thrusted forward, twisted and pulled back.

There you go, the first animation preview, entirely in text format. lol

edit:

For the sake of awesomeness, both these weapons will have dual wield variations

Why would you use zbrush to model in-organic shapes? That would be stupid. If you can see he is only using a diffuse map for the objects in this pack.

Um.. He uses 3dsmax. Also Zbrush isn't particulary a modeller, its more used to make high-poly meshes for normal map bakes.

Exactly, 3ds max is just for the low poly. Although I've seen a few people make low poly meshes with zbrush. Still It's best used for organics in highpoly.

Jon, One thing that stands out to me is the hand rigged for the dagger seems really strange, why would someone stick there rude finger that low? Doesn't seem to natural.lol

zbrush is a fairly effective modeler... tricky to get used too, but its not hard to model with. (im talking inorganic)

I use 3ds max for modeling, zbrush for character normals, photoshop for texture.

Anyways,

Bow is finished, in game nicely snug and animated.

Dominance war starts tommorow so i will be spending a lot of time on my entry and put this on hold for a short period of time. brb!

also heres a low poly link i created for fun for the low poly thread at polycount:

texture size is 256x256, and im quite proud of the squeezed UV's, usually not very confident in my low res stuff, but found this a lot of fun and will be continuing to do more low poly + low res texture stuff

EDIT:

oh, and i zipped up the model and texture as an SDK if anyone wants to play with it and skin something to their own liking (just for fun ofc)
