A new map editor would be ideal. Lets hope we can convince Lee to consider it.

that would be nice, but FPSC's editor is special, and I don't want to see it turn into every other editor I've used.

I'm with Bugsy on this, as my little niece loves making nutty test maps full of enemies to kill and just jumped right in making maps with little to no help from me and she's only 5 years old

There really is nothing to stop people prefabbing media in Max etc and importing into FPSc to get what they require. At least until the "Build me a top selling game" one push button version comes along :p

You're right Bugsy.
But i think that a new camera view would be nice, like a perspective view.
Right?

Nbt and Bugsy but wouldn't it be better if you had both options (like a Beginner and a Professional option).
In the beginner,it would be the same as it is now,but in the professional option you would have something like in Hammer, where you would paint your rooms with a ragtangle tool and an applied texture.

If your going to go down that route I would prefer 2 completely separate versions then, normal and pro. As I for one think we ask for way way too much for what we paid, as we already get way more than we paid for. Then the so called Pro's can pay for the extra work it would involve.

Maybe FPSc could go the way of many opensource projects and issue a bounty program, so people can bid for the less universal additions and extras. That way other gifted programmers here (as well as Lee and the crew) can take it on if/when the bounty reaches a viable total?

Nbt, I think the open-source nature of the current code will undoubtedly attract that idea and it may be implemented in taht way as well. But the whole pro, and normal version idea is kind of a drag.

The entire idea of the migration is to bring everything under one roof and so, what I would suggest is a two-fold editor. An option to switch between the proposed normal and pro editors within the same executable.

I think TGC should make a multiplayer version focused sololy on multiplayer type games. In that way TGC start a new product, but at the sametime use the same source code to base there multiplayer version on.

Anyone else encountered an error at startup, when using Deathcows alphabuild, which tells that "Intro missing"?
Then opens up a window which looks like the FPSCX10 startup window.. and then freezes.

I have no clue why it wouldnt work.

honestly i think we need to step back a notch and focus on what most games need, blended textures and terrain. right now with the current layout, textures are oldschool even more so then counterstrike. we also need less segmented squares still however with ease of use.

For the moment I dont see that you have any chance at all of seeing any major additions to either the way the editor works in creating levels nor multiplayer. I doubt TGC or Lee will have any consideration whatesoever currently in these areas.

Lee has recently again reitereated waht you are likely to see in the next version and tin those areas the statements are inkeeping with long term thinking. Major changes in those areas have been and still are a no go area for TGC as I understand their thinking, not that I am privy to it. Like you I take it on face value as to what information is given out.

Clearly the release at the earliest possible time of the Migration Beta is of priority and what that might contain has been stated. Lee and TGC will have enough on their plate contemplating the Beta release and the following ineviatble issues and bug fixes to bring about some kind of stability to as wide a range of users as is possible.

You will be hard pressed to even realise that in the short term such is the immensity of the undertaking. Not likely then that deviation will occur at this time.

You have to be realistic here unfortunately.

I have always been a supporter of both Multiplayer and level building improvements tied to editor features and capability and that goes back well before the EA release.

Both are complex subjects in relation to FPSC specifically and going down those roads a major undertaking unlikely to be contemplated. Too complicated to consider here though a little thought will give some understanding. FPSC uses a tile system for a reason? Multiplayer is a minefield of problems?

Single player cant be any easier though. As you can see, there are a lot of people who like multi-player. Me being one of them. These requests are not for 1.17, as we already see what TGC is doing. But perhaps 1.18 or 1.19. It's not as if we can just get rid of multi-player, its in the product, and is (as far as I know) Supposed to be supported, like Single player is. Though there is a lot of single player users. There is also a lot of multi-player as well. I would think is nearly balanced out.

You may say, well why is there more single player games then? well thats simple, because as it stands you cant do anything with multi-player, it's very limited. Not to mention the waiting to join bug, which makes the impossible even more impossible. Just take the FPSC IP thread for an example 24 pages and nearly 24,751 views, that obviously says there are a lot of people who would like features for multi-player. It's not like we are trying to make TGC work on multi-player right now, but having an update sometime down the road would be really nice...

But Multiplayer is much harder to upgrade. With singleplayer, you just add in features and BAM there it is. With multiplayer you have to have it constantly check it, which is extremely difficult.

Have you ever used a door in a multiplayer game? That's how EVERYTHING would be.

True, but a little update down the road would not hurt, as lee has already stated, he is integrated mods into this new update already. For a simple update he could use Lemur and just fix some of the code for a Team Death Match mode. Would be significant with what we could do.

UPDATE 09/07/2010

Lee has begun using Twitter, and is frequently tweeting about new additions to v1.17. Check it out here for the latest v1.17 updates: https://twitter.com/leebambertgc.

Also, AirMod has now been fully integrated and is another completed feature to add to the list.

Lee has created a test level showcasing DarkAI and v1.17. It can be downloaded here: http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/shooter/simple-ai-in-fpsc-v117/2837/

When I try to run Lee's test level, I get a "Smart Packer Pro has stopped working" error.
It happens when I try to pick up the first weapon.

I've also got a "Version reporter applet is not working" error.

Anybody else?

Just wondering, why was FPSC Web removed? I was looking forward to seeing it, and I can see so many reasons why it shouldn't of worked out, but what did it? Did it lag too much? Did it just take too long to make?

Also you need about 50 clips of ammo to kill old spiky head LOL

Still at least while your a blot on the floor tiles you can watch spike battle the space marine dude

Well sort of but I didnt show in the video that when I was under the bridge the enemy looks down and shoots me. But the AI doesnt Ice Skate much. They mostly walk. The only time he Ice skates is when you shoot him. But when you shoot him because he falls back from being shot up.

WARNING: The demo is extremely hard. Dont run from the AI. Kill him as fast as you can. He a hacker...

Since 1.17 will be written in Google code, will maps still be transferable wixh X9 1.16?

REASON: I want to start on my new idea, however, the only downfall is that I want Dark AI and it to be bug-free. I know if I start designing levels now, I might make it to the TGC E3 Event, but I'll need Dark AI to finish it. Of course, once you pass level two or so, I'll want partners and the new add ons, but could I start level development, or do I have to wait?

Also, will mods still work?

It's not, it's written in Dark Basic Proffesional 7.5

Google code is just a site where you can share the source code with your developers and post blogs on what's going on.

It's not written in Google code, it is simply a method of storing the latest source code online. So yes, maps will be transferrable.
