The DoF isnt working IMO, you shoulder be blurring the centre of attention, also the gloss/reflectivity is too high. Cool work.

Don't like the horns either. Try making them like this:

and thicker. But everything else looks great!

They kindof look like braids in my opinion. I would make the horns point outward instead of inward, the wierd horns just make the creature look a lot less hardcore

well guys, i've decided to leave this character, i may come back to it later, but as with any design it'll never please everyone so i've decided to leave it at what it is. anyway started a new character, its taken about 1 hour so far and its supposed to be a sort of a future policeman, its been a long time since i modeled a full body character so tell me what you think

Im sorry, but nothing really tells me he is a cop. First off i would give him harder armour, less soft and organic. You also need to give him some defining cop features like a tactical swat style helmet for example, with a holo-screen visor or something.

don't work he'll have hard surface armour later, i tend to sculpt like this then i later go in with a hard surface brush and sculpt out the defining edges and what not, i also had planned to add a badge, a stun gun or batton and mabey some other cop cliches

to be fully honest with u mate, all of ur sculpts look great, but since theyre all aliens, and all ur aliens look related to each other, every time when i see this thread popping up i think: hmm probably just another head alien sculpt

i guess what iam saying is that i find no interest in this thread anymore since all u do is pretty much related to other projects wich u have done, meaning i have seen it before. u should try making something new tbh, a simple civilian with some clothing would be more interesting than what i see now.

just saying that you should try really try making something new.

Agreed, the problem is for me, all of your busts are good, but lack much character, for being aliens, they dont look very interesting, sculpts like these should be able to tell a story, as soon as you look at them, be able to judge their character, what they do, how mean they are. Not trying to be harsh, just something to think about.

well guys, its very wip about an hour of work was put into it when i uploaded that image

quik@

i have done a lot of human sculpts and i'm currently in the middle of UV mapping the future cop, so it won't be aliens forever, they're just quick and fun to do, thats the main reason they're the majority of my posts

asteric@

i'd rather have busts that tell stories, are you thinking of me showing this through his expression, scars or details like glasses or clothes, thats what i'm thinking of adding to this guy

anyway heres an update on the last model and its still earlly wip

no, its a zbrush generated normal map, zbrush doesn't use or seem to use normals, it works well in poser 7, but that itself produces pretty poor renders, i just use it to test disp and normal maps

Its not useless quik, of course you cant make base normals from it, but for detailing, its great.

That doesn't mean it's not useful. I don't think you're understanding the actual use of the plugin. Obviously it's not meant as a substitute for actual normal map generation, but for additional high-surface details that are not the most proper things to model in it is very useful.

thanks

i personally find the normal map plugin very useful, anyway the pirate (probably won't be pirate now) is being completely redesigned and until i come up with something that works i've started a new wip, i'm gonna try and combine orcs and 'clockwork orange' to make something, weird and hopefully good, anyway here you go
-

and thought i'd show you what it started from, i rarely use z spheres
