Just wondered if you guys could remind me of something (I probably once knew but have forgotten). What does the DBPGDKMergeModule.msm in the AppUp installation template actually do again? And why is it so big? I ask because I just got another (very hostile) review of the free version of RADAR and one of their complaints was the size of the app. I decided to investigate and I found that although I only have about 14Mb of media, the msi produced is about 76Mb. Turns out that 61Mb of that is in the DPRGDKMergeModule.msm so I wondered if there was anything I could do to slim it down or remove it? Thanks!

It contains all the required runtimes for DBPro. I doubt you could slim it down without risking the game not running.

You could always convert it to AGK... if only someone would write a translator...

I see. So that's things like DirectX 9c etc. is it? I guess it doesn't really matter - it's just that I like to respond to customer feedback when I can and there is not much else in the review I can usefully act on! I suppose I'm thinking that in most games that require these things, you are given the option of installing them from the internet if you happen to need them because many of them are shared, right? So if you already have the correct version of DirectX, then you don't need it bundled in the app. I wonder if I could do something like that? Although the installer has got to be silent.. Anyhow thanks for your help .

It's been a while since I put any new games on AppUp and frankly sales have been dropping steadily for a while. I wasn't really worried because I just figured the games I had on there had just peaked.

So when I started getting spammed by Intel every half hour with the exciting news that "Congratulations! You are now a Red Belt Software Developer on Intel AppUp(SM) developer program. The title “Intel® Red Belt Software Developer”
recognizes the value you bring to the Intel Software Network communities by actively sharing knowledge and expertise.
"
(which happened about a year ago I think) so I thought I'd go on the forum and post a request for help.

Previously help has arrived quickly for silly problems like this so I wasn't worried but 48 hours later I am still getting spammed by the same email from Intel every half an hour on the dot. I've been told it is being sorted but still it isn't but what is more worrying is that I am the ONLY person to have posted in over 24 hours on the forum there.

I hate to say it but it looks like AppUp is dying.

Somebody prove me wrong?

@baxslash: from what I saw, the AppUp forums have been on low activity for a while, but buzz about AppUp has grown. I remember seeing a conference (maybe in one of the AppUp show), where they said that the number of user is growing, and they plan on reaching 6 Million users by the end of 2012!

Btw, can anyone tell me how sales are doing? Like an estimative number of downloads they had on an App since it's release?

I've had over 3000 in the last year but only about 3 or 4 sales per month at the moment.

Hello guys

After 2 month without free time, I'm here again. Sorry for my delay.

I updated all of my games on ADG (the screenshots) and I added my 2 last published games on Intel AppUp, OPERATION ANNUNAKI and Strange and Dangerous.

I've been working creating a utility software called MultiComps. wasn't very easy to make but it's done. I will explain the software details once it's been released.

problems:
1- can't get the SDK downloaded, the only thing I get is a debugger.
2- What is the AppUp specific code is all about, and where shall I put it in my code, shall I run it externally or within my app and what it has to do with the guid generated when registering the app.
3- am not feeling comfortable to the whole process..

wow, i've just been reading more!!!!!! it seems that intel has lift all that off.

1- SDK is optional (great news). so the guide is optional too.
2- only a silent installer.
3- they get you the sign certificate (not a new thing)

basjak, if you aren't worried about your game being pirated (or if it's a free app) then you don't need to worry about using the AppUp code or dll. If you want to keep your app secure then I would still use it. You can find all the code and information you need in the AppUp guide but it boils down to a bit of code at the start of your app and making sure you put the AppUp dll in your game folder.

Here's the guide:

Are you using DBPro or DarkGDK?

For DBPro you only need the SDK for the debugger.

You can download the C++ SDK here:

am using DBpro and already downloaded the SDK.
so I should run the debugger first.

I'll give it a try.

Your returned value should be the same when using your correct GUID. That's fine but perhaps show a message to the user before ending, something like "AppUp client not running. Application will now close..."

The merge module puts the required runtimes into the game directory. That should be fine.

Not sure what those warnings are but if they're visual studio warnings I wouldn't worry, I would only worry if they are errors in VS.

Hi there, I've got some news and a question for you.

First off, RADAR Free has finally broken the 500 download barrier . Downloads certainly have increased since I changed it from the demo to the free version. Maybe people assume a demo wont have enough content to make it worth downloading?

My question is also relating to RADAR Free. I just received another review and this one has me totally mystified. The title of the review reads "figo" and the content also reads "figo". That is it. Nothing else. It comes with a 5 star rating so I guess it's good, right? But what on earth does it mean? Is this another massive section of popular culture that I've somehow managed to miss from my dimly lit coding cellar? The only thing I could find was the the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics which, whilst no doubt an organisation worthy of promotion, does not strike me as a likely supporter of casual 2D indie games development .

@basjak
Good luck with validation!

Hello guys,

I present my last game HIGH JUMP 3D. ( I've added on the ADG game list )

http://www.appup.com/app-details/HIGH-JUMP-3D-APP

HIGH JUMP 3D is an sport arcade game and the objetive is to do the best high score by doing tricks, crossing rings and don't crashing with birds or hot ballons.

Is my first game programmed with multithreading and it was passed the Intel Graphic test and Intel Multi-Core test with high note.

And the most important, the size of the MSI installer is only 21Mb because no need "DBPGDKMergeModule.msm".

This week, I've published a free demo of OPERATION ANNUNAKI and a new version of Strange and Dangerous, both of them without "DBPGDKMergeModule.msm".

Hello guys,

I have a question for people who knows how to make DLL for DBpro.

I've readed on Intel web site that is possible to make a "buy button" on our apps.

I think that is a good idea to create a DLL with upgrade app function for DBpro as same as DLL for validation.

Our free app demos could have a "buy full version" button who link to AppUpp Center.

But I don't know how to made a DLL. Anyone can help me, please?

This is the link to Intel article:

http://appdeveloper.intel.com/en-us/article/adding-in-app-upgrade

Thanks to all

Off the top of my head I would've said it's possible just using DBPro's built-in HTTP commands, but I haven't researched it much yet. I'll have a look and, if necessary, try making a DLL to handle this.

Just went and looked at that webpage - ok, it would need a DLL. I'll look into it further tomorrow (I'm good at DBPro DLLs).

Well, I'm afraid I don't think I can make a DLL for the following reasons:

1) I don't know if it would be legal.
2) I can't download the SDK (crappy internet).
3) The page says I need a licensed version of Visual Studio 2008 - I don't know whether that means I need the paid version or not and I only have Express.
4) In the code, you would need to put your own "application ID", whatever that is, which is probably gained by joining AppUp.

I will continue to look into it but for the moment assume it can't be done.
