Hi swift master. First let's get your FPSCreator working. Need to know first, did you start by installing
the base program with Version 1.0? Then you need to upgrade to V1.20 and finally the Mod Black Ice V10.0 or V10.1
You don't need to install the Mod if you don't want too? FPSC V1.20 works just fine.

Note: Black Ice V10.0 and prior only have a screen res. of 1280x720. Black Ice V10.1 has 1920x1080.
Second, if you don't want those high resolutions, don't install the Mod and stick with fpsc V1.20.

Next, after installing the version you want, you need to install DirectX 9-c. There are a few missing files
with DX-10 or 11 that are needed. If you have Black Ice Mod look in your "tools" folder. You'll see "dxwebsetup.exe"
Run that and any missing dx-9c files will install. Then fire up FPSCreator and test run.

As far as your questions about player interacting with text messages, yes, you can do any/all of those things with fpi scripting.
Quote: "Would a textbox system with responses that set yes/no switches be easy to implement?"

Yes, keyboard responses to text messages is very easy using variables (switches) and such.

But lets see first if you can get the program to run?
My games never have bugs. They just develop random features..
Lots and lots of random features...

I installed the Beta 10 version. I didn't see a download link for version 10.1.

I connected my computer to a friend's TV with a resolution of 1366x768, and the game loaded correctly when I pressed "Test Game".

I installed the Black Ice Mod because I want the increased RAM limit, the increased frame-rate limit, and the inventory system.

I've been trying to rework some stock assets to use PBR and I was wondering if it would be worth including in future releases.
I've also added specular reflections for muzzleflashes and used lightmaps as makeshift reflection probes.

This is all looking extremely amazing. I was thinking of buying GameGuru, but the Black Ice Mod already has most of the features that I wanted. If you could integrate third-person and multiplayer, it would be everything I ever dreamed of for building my game. Great work, guys. I've been absent for a while due to personal difficulties, but I'll be following this closely to see where it goes before I finally get around to actually building my game.

Man! You should make a WIP thread on this one. Looking at how far the engine has come it would be so awesome to see games made by Wolf or Bugsy and the various other designers come to life. They would have looked ridiculous and the new features would have made a great FPSC game!

This is it, FPSC has just kicked all these expensive and useless engines' butts such as Source or Unreal 4. I have waited a long time for this moment.
This looks stunning, beautiful work !

lol, I wouldn't call Unreal useless or expensive, especially considering that it's completely free.

I'm just trying to introduce more modern graphical techniques so that people can use FPSC to learn them like I used FPSC to learn last gen techniques.

Here's a gallery of just the reflections.

I'm thinking of making a WIP thread to keep track of where I'm at with it. I still need to update some of the entities, especially doors and glass.

Also can anyone tell me if you're able to modify the shaders of FPSC Reloaded (Game Guru)?
I could port this stuff over there too.

I was thinking, do your newest shaders puts a burden on the PC, performance wise ?
Because I've tried your previous PBR shader for segments, and when I enter in a room which have your shaders applied, the framerate drops at 20.

I know my laptop is crappy, but I can run any FPSC Game made with Black Ice Mod.

Yeah the shaders are pretty expensive. My GTX560 has a little bit of a problem with them too.

However that could be because of the segment system, as a large wall can consist of thousands of polygons instead of just a few hundred.

That's true, segment aren't the best way to save polies !
But I really think it's because of my GPU, because i've just tried them in a tiny map made of 2x3 sized rooms.

@swift master - There are a number of NPC interaction systems on the forum. I would have a search for these and see if there is something already available to use / modify.

@Rachael - Official 3rd person and multiplayer support are currently not in scope but you can achieve limited 3rd person with scripting and its possible to get multiplayer working below:
https://forum.thegamecreators.com/thread/215437

@5wee† - You can delete the lightmapper.exe but that would mean you lose the ability to use high quality lighting on large scenes.

@uzi idiot - Stunning work. We should definitely include the stock assets you have enabled PBR as working examples of this technique. I also don't fully understand this at the moment.
Using lightmaps as reflection probes also sounds awesome. An example map would also be great to go with the assets etc.

Sorry we've not had much time to work on the mod recently but its amazing to see what people are working on.

I've suddenly come across a strange bug.

Dynamic objects randomly disappear or the dynamic lighting becomes ridiculously intense.

However this only started happening after it crashed during a test game build, so it's probably just my version corrupting because of a crash

I'll just reinstall the update and see if that fixes it. Just thought I'd point it out in case anyone else has it happen.

@Kuper - You can read the full explanation of the 4GB patch at this link.

@tigerclaw - Multiplayer support is currently not in scope but check out this link.

@uzi idiot - Thanks for the report. I've not seen anything like this but I hope your reinstall was successful.

@Mr Love - Black Ice uses a custom lightmapper which allows baking of much larger levels at high quality. For example the showcase demo below could not be lightmapped in vanilla FPSC even with lower quality

Hello, new user here. I'd just like to know how to download the black ice mod. Is something wrong with the zip file because I've tried downloading it literally more than ten times with no luck,it stops at around 20 kb (ive tried it from the official website AND a mod website. Fpsc can be downloaded from the official website but the mod and the texture packs don't work) I contacted the support team days ago and they haven't replied.

Thanks!

Hi BlackFrost.. and welcome.
Are you downloading it from this site? http://www.blackicemod.org/download.html
If so, I have not had any problems downloading it It's about 218megs in size.
Your talking about the "Black Ice" mod, correct? And I take it you have already installed FPS Creator, yes/no?

@ BlackFrost
Something on your end is "blocking/stopping" the download from BlackIceMod.org.
FpsCreator & the upgrades are from TheGameCreators websites. Since those downloaded
ok and not the "mod" something is amiss on your end? Double check your settings for things
that might stop it ???

@Madcow02 - Uzi Idiot is doing some amazing shader work so will see if heightmaps are something which can be supported in the future. As with most things in FPSC, performance impact would also be a key consideration.
@BlackFrost - Welcome and the post below will hopefully address any issues you are having downloading the mod directly from our website.

**OFFICIAL UPDATE**

Black Ice Mod v10 is a significant milestone for us and its great to see people using this for projects on the forum and emails received. Therefore we are providing a point release today which addresses a number of requests and legacy FPSC issues.

v10.5 update is now uploaded with the following:

- Added native desktop resolution
- Added xbox controller driver
- Added quicksave script / demo
- Improved build file collection
- Improved xbox controller support
- Fixed FPSC quicksave / load issues
- Changed save / load keys to F9/F10

- A number of users have asked about supporting older resolutions e.g. 1024x768 or full 1080 HD so test / built games and huds now use native desktop resolution which takes care of everyone! This ensures you always have a good visual experience.
- We have fixed FPSC quick saving / loading which involved addressing a number of bugs like save previews always being rendered properly, save / load timings corrected and consistency issues resolved. We've also included a demo with a quick save entity / triggerzone and changed the quick save / load keys to F9/F10 so they are positioned next to screenshot and reshade keys.
- As there are people looking to use the mod for commercial or Steam releases we've extended xbox controller support by adding the missing airmod functions and remapping everything to a more familiar control system. This now works for FPSC games using black ice mod out of the box and gives everyone an alternative way to play. We've also included the controller drivers in tools folder so you can install or package with your games.
- Also improved the build game process so all required dll's and ReShade files are now automatically included in built games which means no more having to manually copy these across from the main FPSC directory everytime. A nice time saver for developers!

*If you would like to use a Playstation3 controller instead of Xbox we can help you get that working by visiting http://www.blackicemod.org/contact.php
** We also have a number of people saying they had issues downloading the mod from our website so here is an alternative link. https://www.mediafire.com/?jlb6l9llglii5wq

Here is the new FPSC xbox controller configuration:

@ Nomad Soul Awesome Great work, no problems so far at all. Thank you !
The " Improved build file collection" should save some headaches.
@ everyone else, the "Xbox" controller setting is set to "ON" by default in the setup.ini.
At least mine was, change if needed before you start fpsc.

First up,HUUUUUGE thank you to Nomad Soul and ncmako The mediafire link worked for me,I now have Black Ice running. The entities look great and all,but there's a few problems I met with just now:First up,the player always spins in circles and is looking up.Secondly,he has 99 lives, even though I specified 3.This happened with the old fpsc.Is this a new glitch or am I getting something wrong?

With FPSC closed.. Open your "setup.ini" and change "xbox =1" to 0 (zero) The Xbox controller is "on" by default.
Quote: "he has 99 lives,even though I specified 3"

That's just in test mode, when you do a build you will get the number lives you specify. Same goes for things like health.

Thanks man,saw your reply early, but was busy playing with the guns...Spinning fixed. Also, one thing I don't get is why can't you build anything on ground level(I'm the type of guy who likes things on the ground and not having a perpetual falling hazard when making outdoor maps) ?This is how I did it:First,on a new project, click 'move down a layer'lots of times, then start building a room missing one square of floor. When I test it,I still "fall"to my death(it takes a few seconds, then I die)Is this a default feature or what?

Thanks!

P.S. I don't want to fill the whole place with like grass or roads.

@ BlackFrost
Quote: "why can't you build anything on ground level"

Fps Creator was meant to be an "indoor" First Person Shooter. One can through
careful planning create outdoor scenes, but you are limited to 40x40 segment units per "Layer".
There are a total of 20 Layers up & down.
The default starting point is "Layer:5" you can start/build at any "Layer" you wish. This gives room
for multiple story buildings, caves, dungeons..ect and such. Planning ahead is the key here.

Quote: "I don't want to fill the whole place with like grass or roads"

You don't have to, plan where/how the player moves through the game play.
Those are the only areas that need "floor" segments. Block player movement
from going out of those bounds. (walls, fences, rocks..ect)
The picture I attached is an example how to restrict the players movements using walls.

Note: The forums is a great place to ask & share ideas for fpsc. To get quicker answers,
post your questions to the appropriate forum. Like this thread is for "Black Ice" questions only.
For everyday questions, start a new thread here in the "Product" forum, for anything related to
scripts, post in the "Script" forum, and last anything related to "Models or Media" in the "Media" forum.
I'm sure you'll have lots more questions, so don't hesitate to ask.

I have another question. Do you think that one day or another you will bring to FPSC "expanded" menus ?
Such an "options" button in which the player could ajust sound, graphics settings but also key bindings ?

Erm, I've got a really annoying problem with the latest release. The camera is oriented towards the ceiling and continously spins around, without my intervention. After unplugging my rodent the camera still spins around. I guess it's related to the improved gamepad support ? But I don't own any gamepad !

How to fix that ?

Nevermind, the "xbox" flag was set on 1, I've changed that to 0

@Madcow02 - We might extend the FPSC options in the future but will have to see what happens in the next release.

Here is a patch for Black Ice Mod v10.5 which ensures the xbox controller flag is set to 0 by default. We have also updated the main release with this patch on the website and MediaFire.

I was intrested in using BI for My project, but after playing the demo I am a bit sceptic. Here is why:
1. The enemys in the demo uses bounding box bullet collision. Dosnt BI support Character polygon collision for bullets?
2. Enemys in the demo that are far away dont shoot at all, why? This make Me think Gameguru...
3. When restarting the game it did crash, is that because of the 2gb limit???
4. Are You planning to insert 4gb cut instead of 2gb cut limit? (Texture limit is most critical)

Hope for an answer on these questions, Thanks!

@Mr Love

1. The mod supports limb detection and head shots for enemies but I've not used those in the demo. Polygon detection is not supported
2. You can modify the distance which enemies will attack in their AI script. I've tweaked this in a new build to make them a bit more aggressive
- for example the guard patrolling the gas station can now shoot you from the dock. You can make them super agressive in your own games
3. I've just updated the demo with BI v10.5 and enabled the systemmemorycapoff flag and 4GB patch. The demo builds to 1544MB which is inside the cap
4. The mod already supports 4GB but you will need to enable the memorycap in setup.ini and patch the game executable to use this

I'll be uploading the new v10.5 demo build later this evening.

Hi, I have a framerate issue with the latest release so I'd like to revert back to the previous version, do I just have to uninstall the latest then reinstall an older one ?
Will it harm my FPSC ?

@Madcow02 - That is strange as we've not made any changes to performance in v10.5. There isn't an uninstaller for Black Ice so you can just install an older version over the top.
@Mr Love - We've patched the FPSC-Game and FPSC-MapEditor executables in the mod. You will probably need to patch any game executable built with FPSC also.

**DEMO UPDATE**

Black Ice Mod showcase demo has now been updated with v10.5 build:
http://www.blackicemod.org/demo.html

- Reworked some of the lighting and gameplay
- Demo can now be played with xbox controller
- Added some quicksave positions in level
- Optimised performance for outdoors
- Fixed some bugs with scripts

*Remember to set xbox=1 in the setup.ini configuration to play with xbox controller.
