I recommend heavily having some of the levels in the daytime. It's a great change of scenery, and looks good. It will keep the player interested in their surroundings.
I know you might want to wait until the end to work on AI, but so you know zzz, the AI is really holding your game back right now, and if you can get a more finished version in place, you can have levels based on the more advanced AI. It would be really cool if you added some sneaking sequences (like a few small portions in some levels).
Also, just an idea, but if you had ways to manipulate the environment, say like cut a rope and have something it's attached to go swinging into a tree and knock it down, turning it into a bridge, you could really add some variety to the game.
And have you converted to DBC 2? You might have said so, but if you haven't definitely do for the vista compatibility and amazing new lighting effects.
And one more thing. Have you played Windwaker? I'm playing through it right now, and am baffled by the level of detail and polish. It sets an entirely new level for me. The amount of things you can do and freedom you have is incredible. Just asking, because it's made me want to put a lot more effort into my next game, which is saying a lot considering how much I had planned to add to it.
