@zzz

Wow, that little statue is so cute! (Hehe, thought I'd never be able to use that icon, and here I am...)

Awesome work as always, I bet you can already smell the end of this project!

Keep it up, and remember that bad times are just times that are bad.

Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been quite busy with this.
I'm hoping to get some work done on soulhunter during this weekend.

Quote: "Hehe, thought I'd never be able to use that icon, and here I am..."

My new goal is to make you use those icons again!

Quote: "Thats why I stick to Nvidia"

Well, it was the Nvidia card that broke in the first place, so I decided to give ATI a chance. And now the game works just as good on ATI cards, so I'm happy.

Hey, that looks great! There's no doubt in my mind that you're one of the very top developers on these boards.

Still waiting for more SoulHunter, though.

That little statue is freakin' awesome!

I somehow think you've mentioned using Magic World before, but regardless when I read you saw it I got all excited and dug it up again to play with it.

Keep up the awesome work!

Check out this WIP flash game from the Global Game Jam!

Hey, just wondering if you are still working on this or if you have started to devote your time to your other WIP. I just wanted say that I played the demo and that it is absolutely awesome. It is great to see that you have stayed with this project for so long.

@Game Warden:
I've been taking a break from soulhunter for a while to focus on school, but I'll soon start working on it again (like the end of next week). Currently, I'm working on a new portfolio site which is almost complete. Oh, and the Hyperion demo is now available for download at hyperion.bytegrove.com. ...and I'm going to make this little game available for download as soon as I'm finished with the new site.

Small update:
Modeled the "arena" for the second boss battle today, and the intro cinematics for the forest spirit/second boss are done. Now, I'm just going to tie those final boss battles and cinematics together, then I'll start working on the intro cinematic for the game itself and I'll also rework some of the levels to make them a little prettier!

Here's a small screenshot of the map used during the second boss battle. It's the destroyed temple of the forest spirit. What do you think? I'm not sure if I'm going to use a darker sky during this battle or just add rain or something.

Last but not least, the new portfolio website is now up and running, check it out, same url as before: www.bytegrove.com

@LandShark: It has set levels. Try the demo, old as it may be...

This is probably my favourite project on TGC forum.

Thanks all! =)
Here's an updated screenshot, with a red/purple sky. Reminds me a little of Xen from half-life.

Yeah, there's a seam in the sky, but it's fixed now.

One more...

The game looks great (you are obviously a skilled modeller!)

I noticed your skybox appears to be affected by light, you might need to use "set object light" set at zero to fix this.

As an aside, if you are after skyboxes you could try my skybox maker "EnviroSCOPE" just click the link in my signature! It uses DarkCLOUDS and you can set the sky colour to a certain extent, it can also do space skies and has lots of other features too...

Nope, it's not. You may have thought so due to the texture, in which case:

the moon in the skybox looks a bit blocky, upping the resolution of the texture and editing it may help

@LandShark:
Yeah, some small updates. I have applied sound and music to the boss cinematics. I've added the scrolling credits text at the end of the game. And I've begun modeling and texturing the first part of level 5(the path leading up to the forest spirit).

Here are some sneak peeks at level 5:

The next thing on my todo-list now is the intro cinematics for the game itself and after that I'll do some touching up on the earlier levels before releasing a beta!

Thank you both!
------------------

I just finished the modeling/animating/coding of the new forest fairy(remember the old one?).
The new one is a little different.

First of all; I remodeled the "summon stone" to look a little more like the checkpoint stone.
This stone however, lights up when hit by the sword.

When the stone is lit, the fairy will appear and ask whether the player wants to be healed or not.
As you can see, this fairy looks a lot different than the old one.

Now this is one strange fairy. When you accept the offer, the fairy will "transform" into
a bird-like being and replenish your health!

I'm not following too closely on this, but does the fairy offer a limited number of heals? If not, the whole asking to replenish dialogue routine seems kind of redundant.

Looking good besides

Why are you still unsing the Classic Dark BASIC?

So there isn't any demos you ever released for it over the years? (sorry i don't have the energy to browse through all 44 pages for maybe finding it.. or not..)

I really love games with this art style, they seem to be extinct nowadays, at least for me it seems, i'm not really into next-gen gaming but what i pick up here and there shows that way...

I wish you all the best with this project!

@TheComet:
Thanks! Yep I'm adding some blur to the beginning of that scene, as some kind of dreamy haze effect.

@Quel:
Quote: "Why are you still unsing the Classic Dark BASIC"

I just use darkbasic classic for this particular game, it would be too much work to rewrite it to another language(even dbpro).
Quote: "So there isn't any demos you ever released for it over the years?"

There's a link to a two year old demo on the first page. But I guess the whole game will be pretty much finished in about 2-3 months.

And you really can achieve everything you've had in mind with that piece of software?

I haven't touched Classic i don't know, maybe 6-7 years ago, so it's not so clear to me how it may has evolved since and what are its current features compared to Pro... So please get this, i'm not asking like... this is not a question like "are you nuts for still using that?!", i'm just curious.

Your overall game designing abilities are truely shocking, you may send the finished game to some developer teams if they could use such a talent in their creations. A CV with full of sh*t about thought up past is still way behind this creation. (i don't mean publishers, that's an other thing, but i guess if you're not going for freeware, you may attempt at releasing it on your own. I haven't done that kinda thing with games yet just my own comics, but all i can say about that it is real fun too!)

Of course not, but if I had changed the game engine everytime I found something better, I'd never finish.

Awesome I remain interested in how you calculated the shades on the texture? Also reminds me of the CBFD style a little

A little improvement could be done on the seems at the top of both ear-shaped thingies, they don't look quite right yet.

I thought it looked quite cool/cute.

Ghosted, rotating cylinder layers. I actually still use the same mesh as before, i only updated the horrible texture. The night skysphere uses a mix of both light and dark ghosting, so you can see as the clouds move in front of the moon. I tried to replicate the real effect as much as I could. ^^
