That's cool! I like the overall look to it with all the fog and stuff. I still have problems with controls and the camera though. First off I'd rather have the camera looking more at the character rather than the horizon line. Also I don't like how the camera automatically moves around behind the character, I'd rather have a button that centers the camera. Some of the jumping was almost impossible because of the camera problems. Anyway, it's deffinetly looking good and I hope you get everything you want done soon.

Antidote: I´m glad to hear that you liked the new demo! I wont change the point where the camera is looking to the character center, because then it´s hard to see your surroundings. And you can change both the camera angle(mouse-movement) and the controls... (How many times do I have to tell you people that?! )

And as I promised:

To make good looking stuff in db you actually have to try, and then think outside the box. No fancy shaders to bail you out.

Hooray for zzz and soul hunter!!!

I wouldn't mind seeing this stickied now with all the promise it's showing.
But then again, it's doing fine without one...

Wow! I really got into the atmosphere of this game, it is scary! It is comparable to DB Pro games, not many have done a better job than this.

When jumping... The player needs to see their shadow to see how far they have jumped. Good shadow by the way.

So you might have the camera look down when jumping, then swing back up again when landing. Not sure actually how this is done in other games, but you do usually see your shadow, I know that much. Otherwise you die a lot.... like me.

I´ve actually tried this before Pincho, but I got all dizzy with the camera rotating up and down, so why don´t you try to move the camera higher with the numpad keys or the mouse?

Well, I guess I've got some more things you could improve on... Let me see...

Personally I don't like how all the enemies can jump up ledges to attack you... I don't think the smiley guys in suits should be able to jump... maybe if you're on a ledge above them, they back up a bit and stare at you, or start to pace, waiting for you to come down. And the boss at the end of the demo, he shouldn't be able to see you until you've gotten to the top of the tower. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who got pushed off by him while I was still climbing the platform/stairs... And while the level is very well laid out, sometimes the pathways you're supposed to follow or the doors you're supposed to go through are very hard to see amidst the background stuff. Perhaps the main way you're supposed to go should be slightly brighter than the rest of the world? I think that would really make the WOW factor even higher than it already is. It would also make the hidden stuff that much cooler when you found it. And you need checkpoints if the levels are going to be linear. I didn't like how I got sent back to the beginning every single time I fell into the mist.

Well, there you go. Another days worth of work.

Yeah, that guy pushed me off too. Luckily I didn't land in the mist and managed to climb back up and pushed him off! Ha! Take that!
The only other problem I had was the camera was sometimes slightly awkward but that is looking to be one hell of a good game! Waypoints would be good.

Okay; was just telling you problems that I wasn't absolutly sure were fixed. And not exactly like a path... More like lighter textures or more ambience around the main path, or at least objects that you need to pass through. Particularly at the well/stump and the exit to the sewers. At the well I couldn't tell if the path up the stone or the well/stump was the main path, and almost went through the well/stump before climbing up the stones. But that's not a huge deal. The big problem was with the sewer exit, as it was so dark it blended with the walls a bit too much, and at first I couldn't tell it was a door.

Is the problem so huge after all? It sounds that you found your way through the level at last, and I don´t really want to make the game brighter (if that´s what you mean).

All he means is perhaps making the main path brighter than the secret areas. Just so the main path isn't hard to find and when you locate a secret then it is more rewarding as you have to really hunt to find it. It isn't really a problem it was just a suggestion. The game is great regardless.

I tried the demo on the previous page.

I love the spooky feel of this game. Very nice atmosphere and models overall. Lots of great work has gone into this so far and it shows.

Now for some critique...

Why not implement a standard WASD + Mouse control scheme with a chase camera? It will require no learning curve by most users and will alleviate the frusration, seemingly, everybody is having with the control + camera currently.

Also, why not throw the player into some action against enemies right away? Starting the game off with a jumping puzzle may alienate some players right off the bat, while some nice action to start will get more people hooked.

Urgh, as I have wrote 1 googolplex times before, the controls are changeable and the camera collision is fixed!!!
And I´m working with a tutorial wich shall take place on the first "island". In that tutorial you´ll have to fight some enemies.
And thanks for trying the demo, Yarbles!

Ooh.. Cool a tutorial island... Do you by chance have the story worked out yet? Just curious, don't need to tell us it if you want to keep it under wraps.

And I basically meant what andrew neale said. I do think you need to make the exit to the sewer more obvious though; perhaps have the opening itself be larger?

Hi zzz,

I like the way that the game has dark elements, because it gives the game a unique feel. But I agree with Bizar Guy that the paths do need to be a little easier to find, I got a bit confused when playing - which takes some of the fun out of the game.

I like the checkpoint stones, and the mushrooms because they gave the game good contrasting colours, which made it more interesting. And the more interesting the game is, the more fun it is to play.

I can't wait for your next demo, this project has made heaps of progress!

The game looks awesome. It really does. The only problem is as stated by danielp is that it can be a little confusing. The problem for me is that I cannot see were I am meant to go, this problem could be eliminated if the game had more freedom to rotate the camera and zoom in and out.
Also, [unreasonable request]It would make the game a lot better if it was faster[/unreasonable request]

The camera can be rotated 360 degrees. If I understand you guys right, is it the forest and the dungeons/sewers were you get lost? I think that the new improved camera collision system may help a bit, I don´t really want to make the textures brighter...

Edit, PNG removed, so annoying to load. Click the button at the bottom instead.

Try using brightness commands or gamma or whatever that can tone up the brightness, I found it too dark to see what I'm doing on my system, luckily I have Adobe gamma and can turn my brightness right up, however not everyone can do that

Ooh... Is that a clockwork baddy? Looks great. And please don't make the textures brighter. That would ruin the art style. Rather, try just adding and improving landmarks so the pathway is easier to see. And as I said, my real problem is with the exit to the sewer, which looks more like a statue than a doorway. I think you should make the actual opening in the model larger...

Like Bizar Guy said, don't change the textures -

Quote: " try just adding and improving landmarks so the pathway is easier to see"

BTW, nice looking picture zzz!!

A lot of people don't seem to realize that you've got the camera
collision sorted (or that they can manually control it with the mouse) - which hopefully they will see when the next demo comes out.

Keep it up zzz, the game looks really nice.

http://medlem.spray.se/everlord/sdii.html

And please remember:
Camera collision fixed, no comments please.
Run the OPTIONS-PROGRAM first.
Switch to camera mouse-movement, press "C".
All shield issues fixed, no comments please.
Avoid problem with flickering bars at bottom and
top by changing the res to 320x240.
Gamma options will be added in next version.

I think that´s all, if you find any other bugs then post´em!
