Just out of curiosity, which publisher are you sending the game to?

You never really know a person until you look at their google autocomplete entries.

@The Full Metal Coder Roxas -
Cool, I'll check it out. Is it on Youtube?

@Code Dragon -
I'm leaning toward Alten8 at the moment. It depends on a few of the specifics. The terms for both are the same - after cost, I get 50% of the profit.

GameKing-No problem dude, I just wanted you to know a small amount of things that goes into a huge project like this. An rpg is a very big project and should be treated as such. But its not unattainable, you just have to work your butt off like cash has .

@The Full Metal Coder Roxas -
Your project looks really cool. I haven't seen the video yet, but I'll try and change that.

@Game King -
Np, and thanks!

Quote: " I'm only 15 "

Damn, my son is 14...

@Zombie 20 -
Yeah, that's very true. Someone shouldn't start an RPG unless they are willing and capable of dedicating real time to it. Money doesn't hurt either.

******************************************************

Minor update. I've been working on the magic system and the inventory system since part of the magic system uses inventory functionality.

A while back I made a mini project to fix my physics dragging. It was a fantastic success. You can push and pull items around, even toss small ones around. Very nice. Unfortunately I broke my inventory system in the process, which I need to fix. I'll still finish magic first then really get on inventory.

I've added the spellbook as an equipable item. If you're holding it when you open the runes then the spellbook will open smoothly. When you close them, they will close as well. Next I'll add the spellcasting animations and I'll be done. These are some of the oldest parts of the Geisha House and in some ways are very antiquated. It will take a bit of work to bring them up to speed. One big change will be tying the magic into the flag system. Basically, spells will act as colorful flag triggers. A spell will be able to do anything in the game, and it will all be scriptable. It was much more limited before.

Holding the spellbook...

It's open now, ready to cast...

Awesome job with the spell book, and brilliant idea with the interface of it as well . I know I've said it before, but this truly is an amazing game in every aspect, and I hope I will one day be able to create something as well-rounded and professional as this .

WOW.. That's hot! one thing tho will the game pause when you open your spell book? because that'll be kinda hard to click if you're trying to evade enemies.

Oh and you should add some code that will let you Hot key spells. That'll make the gameplay awesome

The only think I can see to complain about in the pictures is possibly the ground. It looks the same in all of them. Do you have any pictures of patchy dirt, or in a city? Just something different

It's a pretty flexible system, so a lot will be able to happen. You'll see in the near future.

@Alquerian -
Quote: "Does your Mr. Hero apply a gloss shader to his hair?"

Every morning I didn't really notice that until now, but the hair doesn't have any normal mapping detail. I definitely need to fix that!

@Gil Galvanti -
Thanks, I appreciate that We'll see how it all turns out yet, still much to do.

@Deathead -

Thanks I think that one thing that always says "MADE IN DBP" is a lot of the media that people reuse. Hopefully Games Studio games look good

Quote: "Audio:2/10*"

I have some good music, hopefully when you hear some more you'll be able to raise that score.

@Game King -
Quote: "WOW.. That's hot! one thing tho will the game pause when you open your spell book? because that'll be kinda hard to click if you're trying to evade enemies."

Sorry, nothing pauses. The runes rotate as well. At first very few runes will be unlocked, so this won't be such a big deal. However, as the game progresses you unlock them all, then casting spells can become very complicated.

I want to simulate confusion. During a battle it will require speed and focus to pull it off.

Quote: "Oh and you should add some code that will let you Hot key spells. That'll make the gameplay awesome"

I'm not going to do that for this particular game. The spells are easy to memorize once you've cast them a few times. One of the major game plot elements will involve this as well.

@Agent Dink -
Yeah, the ground in the videos does all look the same. I've shot all the videos in about the same spot, I guess, and it looks the same. I have different areas that don't look the same though.

@jaden decar -
Thanks! Hope you like the video, I think it's pretty cool in action.

**********************************************************

Okay, it's new video time guys. Forgive me, it didn't turn out very well. I'm very tired, I've been coding longer than a person should today. I've just really wanted to get the magic system fixed. I had lots of problems getting it there, but now it works.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJi65Ax2VMM

This shows some conversation again, but zoomed in more. Then it shows me casting one spell. It's not the best looking spell, my lightning is way cooler, but my smoke is messed up so I kept it simple. I also didn't intend to get blasted back like I did in the video, but as soon as the spell is cast he closes the book. It could use some tweaking, but I'm pretty pleased with how it works so far.

Enjoy! I'm talking a break from this tomorrow.

Maybe so, I'll wait until later to tweak it though. It probably looks overwhelming because all of the runes are on screen, but you'll start with fewer.

Yeah I was tired when I made that video and I got tired of trying to get a good shot. It's a shame because I like how the whole thing turned out, but you didn't get to see everything.

He got blasted back because he was standing too close to the dwarf when he blasted him. I can just reduce the blast radius to stop that unless you're touching the dwarf.

Animation speeds? As in, the magic GUI? Is reminding you of Runescape a bad thing? I've never played it.

I meant the player Hurt animation speed.And falling back.They looked weird to me.If i bought a game with that animation speed i'd have something like "Well...uhm...lets tell the maker it looks weird."

And remembering me of runescape is bad,Animations are slow in it,And are all on the wrong moments.(Like Hurt animation is too slow...Like yours.As it falls backward faster then the animation goes."

I'll take a look at it. It's very easy for me to change the speed of specific animations. The animation plugin that I made takes a different FPS value for each individual animation. So far they've looked good to me, but again I'll take another look at them.

New magic video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDlQhKkjLOk

I suppose that my last magic video wasn't all that impressive. It's understandable, all I did was throw a fireball. Plus, magic isn't all that exciting. I've been adding new spells and effects. One thing that I had to fix was Geecee3's pyro system, it stopped working. The problem was that it was using objects and images in the range of 50,000+. It was odd because the game would crash whenever you would click on an item. I think that Pick Object was erroneously including the objects and going haywire. I modified it to use dynamic object numbers instead, and it works great.

In this video I use an Invisibility spell and a Lightning spell. I've completed most others, including Reveal, Heal, Calm, Harm, and of course Flame Strike. I still need to add Resurrect, Remove Lock, Feeblemind, and Protective Shield. I've got all of the spell visuals down, I just need to make them actually do something. It's pretty easy now with the flag system. I'm going to do Protective Shield next, it will look pretty cool. It will create a magical shield around the player that will shrink until it disappears. Feeblemind will screw up enemy AI (or your own controls if you cast it on yourself). The other two are self explanatory I suppose.

Enjoy, hopefully

Yes,might be FRAP's that made the animations look weird.FRAPS sometimes messes up stuff.So i guess if they appeared alright to you,FRAPS messed a little with it.And recorded stuff that did not EXACTLY happen.

I'll let it process tonight, hopefully it will just work later. Has anyone else been having problems with Youtube today?

I have, it didn't process one of my videos that I had uploaded after several hours. I re-uploaded it and it processed it and it worked an hour or two later. Perhaps they have a large que of other videos that are in line to be encoded prior to yours? I know their servers re-encode all of their content, so maybe they are experiencing some load problems.

I like the spellbook in the new video, and how you became ghosted. neat effect. I also like the sound when you cast the spell on the orc. Looks pretty neat. I have always wanted to know what all the spinning things are, the ring of icons that spin around your character? Are those different types of spells? If so, why would you have that and your spellbook? Are they spell effectors? It just confuses me a little bit. Cool Video

Wow, it's finally finished. The picture showed up about an hour ago, but it still wouldn't play. Glad that's over.

There's a problem in the video with the lightning strike. The skeleton's weapons don't fall to the ground like they should. I totally fixed that, it was a simple oversight.

I've been coding up a storm today. My protective shield spell works nicely. The project is almost 20,000 lines now. Lots of coding, but it actually worked almost correctly the first time.

I also decreased the volume of the footsteps and added the ability to knock down enemies. It's a bit random, but becomes more likely as your level increases. They're also stunned for a bit.

@Alquerian -
Quote: "I have always wanted to know what all the spinning things are, the ring of icons that spin around your character?"

Glad you liked it The spinning things are spell runes. Each one represents a 'word of power'. If you look at a page in the spellbook, you'll notice that there are the same number of spell words as there are runes.

All the spellbook does is show you the spell. You can cast them without the book by opening the runes. Or, you can simply type in the correct words and the spell will still work.

When I first began the project, I looked up some Tolkien Elvish and decided what words I'd want. So, they all more or less mean something

For clarity's sake, I should elaborate on the spell system a bit.

There are four circles of magic - Birth, Death, Calm, Chaos. Each spell circle has different attributes. Below that are the elements - Earth, Fire, Air, and Water. Every spell needs a circle and an element. Under those are actions and targets, all of the non-colored spell runes.

@Gil Galvanti, Game King -
Thanks, I'm glad you guys think so

@Crazy Ninja -
Oddly, I didn't have a proper lightning sound for that spell. I've replaced it now, although I still need to make it a bit louder. It's a powerful spell, it can turn a group of skeletons into rubble, so it should sound like it. Thanks for pointing that out

The spinning might or might not get slowed down, I'll wait until I balance gameplay during Beta phase.

@TATO 4 EVER -
No way I'll stop working on this. That would amount to the greatest amount of time an adult ever could have wasted

@Prince Of Darkness -
Quote: "Nice Video Cash.I like this Spell system,it actually requires the user to do something but clicking a number and it will do a spellskill."

I sure hope everyone likes it in play. I'll break the players into it gradually, I'll start everyone out with a limited number of runes and spells and the player will get more runes as they acquire spells.

*************************************************

Magic continues to get better and better. I'm particularly happy with my protective shield spell. I also added Feeblemind and Resurrect. They work nicely and look cool.

A funny thing happened, I tried to target the dwarf with Feeblemind but I hit myself instead. I got hit by the spell, which screwed up my control. When the spell wore off, I automatically recast it because the initial cast didn't complete all the way. I was running around trying to keep myself from recasting, but to no avail I discovered that the same thing happened with lightning. The strike interrupts the spellcasting animation, so I keep striking myself when I get up. I suppose I should fix that mess.

There was a pretty ugly thing in the video. The flash ring of the lightning strike was too close to the ground and looked screwed up. At first I thought it was the particles and billboard causing the problem, but after much fiddling with particles I found out that it was just some old, squirrely math that was supposed to set the ring above the ground a certain percentage of the height of the target. That was pure crap, so I replaced it with a literal value and it looks great. Never a problem. I can't wait until I'm able to post the next video. I've only got two spells left, and I can't add Remove Lock until I actually implement my physics friendly doors. Death Vortex is the last spell that I need to add, and I'll do that tonight.

The full description of lightning is...

Quote: "Lightning

Calls lightning down from the heavens, crushing whatever lay in its path."

It is my favorite damage spell, I love seeing a crowd of skeletons explode. It also looks cool. Plus, I made that lightning animation myself in PSP.

I'm glad that you like it. This time the spell system has been received much better than last time, and the rune system is exactly the same. Maybe it's a total effect since more of the game is done.

Anyway, I've got to cook first, but then I'll finish Death Vortex. I'm going to make it very powerful but dangerous as well. It will chase the player when it's cast. It will be like a big magic lawnmower with an attitude.

A lot of the spells are dangerous to cast. Lots of them have an area effect and will hurt the player as well if you're not careful. However, there are two protection spells - Invisibility and Protective Shield. If you try to fight while you're invisible then you'll negate the spell, but you can cast without being seen.

Spells won't generally affect animals or the undead. I've thought about it a bit, and I like the idea of different disciplines of magic. For instance, Necromancy would be a totally different branch of magic requiring very different practices to use. Necromancy will be seen in the game. I think that a type of magic that focuses on the wild (animals and plants) would be cool to have as another discipline. In GH sequels it is likely that these different types of magic will play a bigger role.

Yea! I love that language, oh what fun this game is going to be. Cash I just wanted to say that anybody who drops in here proclaiming they are the next best thing to hit the rpg market should be directed to your thread. Haha, i think the daunting phrase 20,000 lines of code will shut up most and bring out the truly talented. Also, you are starting to become an inspiration for my projects as well as many of the user's here already are, I just wanted to say keep up the great work and get the game here! I want to go beat up some skeletons and feel good about myself.
