Well, glad people like the vid. I suppose I mean the real thing is smoother, even if the vid is smooth.

Quote: "The Deadworld Lore seems to be adding another layer to the game, and I like that"

Oh yeah. There's a ton of depth to be found there. I started adding it in when I realized Dream fit really well into a larger game story I'm doing, while still being stand-alone. It also fills in a few plot gaps and keeps the game interesting. I'm hoping with all the story and gameplay content Dream will be a game I think is worth buying.

Quote: "great looking game, very high quality. will there be voice acting?"

Not for the text bubbles, as those for the most part and introspective text, and I think it would sound silly if you heard him talking to himself. This way it feels more the way I want it, and bad voice acting wont ruin the game at all. There is some voice acting though, used sparingly but in situations that make sense.

And demo will come... sometime this summer.

Anyways, I've gotten a summer job (finally, everyone I know is having sh*t luck at it), and it's taking 8 hours of every week day. Currently I'm not in gear to spend my few hours home coding, after building sound barriers along the highway all day. I'll get a lot done on the weekends if I can help it, and try to start working on weekdays again too. I want to finish Dream this summer even if I have to eat a Harvard student to do it.

Anyways, you'll be hearing from me soon

Sorry for being gone for a while, I have done a good bit of work on Dream, but the summer job takes up a tons of time, and I don't feel like coding when I get home from it. I've got from today until Sunday though, and even with the 4th tomorrow, I'll do a ton of work and try and get some stuff I can show screens of.
Edit: make that sometime this week, I didn't wanna do modeling so I can't show anything I did. I'll talk about it later.

On another note, I think I've figured out what I want to to for my web comic. I think I'll start setting it up once Dream is finished, though I'm planning it out right now. It's pretty epic.

Thanks game_nut. I'm glad that old demo still gives a good impression.

Good news everyone! I broke my leg yesterday!

..yeah. I was at my summer job moving a 800 pound wall panel, or steering it as a backhoe carried it. We were going on a skinny back road behind the farm we were working at instead of the normal road for necessary reasons, and my boot slipped a bit and got caught in the edge of the wheel. Mu muscles are all stretched and torn, but they'll heal back. I broke my leg in two places and foot in one, but the bones stayed in place so so far it doesn't look like I'll need surgery. I'll probably still have a cast when I fly back to college on august 25. Funny thing, I just turned 19 last month, and this is my first broken bone ever.

So why is this good news (for you)? Well now I'll be sitting around all summer and will have a pretty good chance of finishing Dream!
I've modeled some more backgrounds since I last posted, and done a TON of other work. I'll post screens when I'm completely satisfied with the models.

I'm not sure yet. Definitely many of the level backgrounds will have grays, but I still plan to have plenty that are just black and white... I'm not sure yet. I already tried doing some gray with the sanctuary interior, and it sucked.

Edit2: OK, I've got a system worked out for the coloring, it will really emphasize the plot and all. Trust me, it's awesome (and a lot of work to fill my time). Now I'm off to re-model Dreamtown.

Alright, I've finished the new Dreamtown! I know it's colorful, and in fact, this is intended to be the most colorful place in the entire game. I may tone it down anyways though, I'm not certain yet I want this part of the color scheme to look toy-like.

Tanks guys! I've played around with the coloring of the level, so now it fits with the story and changes dynamicaly.O_o

Here are screens from the super revamped opening. I realized that no one could possibly gather enough information from the original to be of any use. Now, with coloring and re-use of models, the finalized story can be properly laid out.

Can anyone guess the implications of this? Rami?

I think I do 'get it'. The colouring (or lack thereof) certainly adds to what I think you're conveying there

...Hi... so I'm telling my wife about your broken leg "good news post" and the morbid responses that were also good for a laugh.

I'm one of the bleacher folk watchin this games progress from afar. And while showing off your screen shots to my wife and explaining the basic premise of your game and how I thought the art looked Dr. Seuss and was cool as all get out out - she said I like that style - I like games like that - is there a demo? (Before I scrolled up to check) I responded - I think you have to buy it - she said - ok... sure.. (meanwhile I looked for the demo and found it on post one) She'll be downloading it in a bit I'm sure - and looks like I'll be a customer eventually!

Good Job!

@jason p sage, that's pretty cool! Hmm... I'll try and have the final demo out within the next few weeks... It's not as if I'm pressed for time to work on it anymore.

@tha_rami, no idea what iDeal is, but I'll find out and try to have it as a payment option!

I've done the southern ruins, aka the first level.

Also, I'll try and a vid of the new dreamtown vid up, it's AWESOME.

@tha_rami, thanks, I'll look into SharIt then.

@Cian Rice, interesting. I can't recall the song offhand, but I'll look it up and see.

As a closing for tonight (my time), here's a screen of the forest background. I'm still not quite happy with it, but it's getting there.

The mirrored texture on the tree feels jarringly prominent. Is that by design or an issue?

I'm doing some of the hand drawn scenes right now (another of the art styles with some sort of meaning attached), I'll show the one of the train crash once I can get it onto the comp. It's pretty cool.

Wow! I'm glad people like the way things are going so much!

As for my leg, the swelling is down, but fear not! I'm not getting the cast off until late august at least (that's when I go back to college), and then I need a boot and will be going through physical therapy. Now I don't have to keep it elevated all the time though, which is good. You see, Doctor says my foot was crushed. Probably because of the 5 fractures in my ankle and foot, and the muscle damage, and the fact that it certainly felt like it was crushed. However everything is in place, and it doesn't look like there's any lasting damage. My whole lower left leg is a rainbow of sickly colors below the cast, and I can now move my toes at least thrice as well as I could after the accident (not saying much).

Game Stuff:
Well, I've gotten a lot done. I've gotten the level select into a more final form, and with a few more teaks it will be ready the show off. I've even made it so the cursor appears over the level you've just unlocked, and made the pickup key also select levels. I've also redone the pause menu to fit the main menu, and it's going nicely so far.
Then, I've added the WASD keys as another option for movement.
And just now I've made it so the farther underwater something it, the darker it gets. Just a few ghosted plains, but it does the job nicely.

Next I'm planning to model the train wreck background, which uses a hand drawn pencil sketch texture. Then I'll be making a lake background, for the first rising water level.

Also, I think the forest might be called Lod Forest. Would that be a nice nod to geeks and such, or it that just lame? See, even though I've mapped out many of the paces in Deadworld, I haven't named most of them yet.

Sounds like you're getting a lot done. Lod Forest is a great "calm" name, at least I think so. It wont sound geeky to non-geeks, like Leet Forest or Ipwnunoob Forest would do.
