Yes, Techno. You must create a thread in the Showcase board, and to adhere to the Showcase rules, you'll need a screenshot to post when you create it.

Same here...

Question: Do you also have to do all the media in your second level too? Because I have not started the second level whatsoever.

I'm on orders to move to Europe in February next year. I can extend the contest until March 08 if the majority of current contestants all agree to this. It would really help me out since I will be extremely busy in December now.

Goodluck with that DarkFact.

Quote: "I can extend the contest until March 08 if the majority of current contestants all agree to this."

Thanks DarkFact for keeping us up to date. Not sure if I understand however, Are you saying that the contest will be extended for another 3-4months? If everyone thats entered, agree?

I've never been in something like works like that, so I'll just have to see what other people think. I thought the dates set were good and final and made it fair to everyone who had time to check out the thread about the contest.
Oh, the other thing Ive noticed is there is a few people wanting to release their demos, and if the date gets extended, thats going to make it harder for those people that are close to a finish and have to wait.

Oh well, I just keep an eye on this thread every day now, see what happens...

Yes. The dates were good and fair to all. I'll have to pick up the pace to get mine done, but that's what it all about. I could go either way, but it just seems right to stick to the original rules.

Sorry about your time limits and best of luck with the deployment. Man, I hate moving.

Best.

@DarkFact - true. and yeah I agree.
I personally dont mind and you being one of the main judges, im sure some games will take a bit of time to play, once judging time starts happening.

Quote: "I just keep an eye on this thread every day now, see what happens"

As I mentioned, I'll just keep a look out for the decision and go from there.
Allready Inspire has made a decision.

Thanks anyway DarkFact for letting us know.

Well, the quality of the entries would be so much better if you put off the entry date, but kept the same rules. Then people could really focus on the quality of their games, and even better, when the next source is released (around Christmas), it will make everything so much better.

Bah! Leave it.Thats what you have other judges for You could always do the Finalists and Winners later if you need time moving. That way I can move onto another project

I say no, because the end date cant be moved all the time. I have worked my [Something] off to finish my game in time.
I agree with woolfman that the games could be judged later than the date you have now but I think that 1 December should the game be in.

Regards, Joakim

As far as extending the deadline goes, I say no: not because I'm doing this for my own personal advantage, i.e. because I've nearly finished or whatever, but because it's a part of the competition to stick to the deadline, and not go easy on it to let any loose stragglers past because they would've been organised enough to get it finished by the end of this month.

The deadline should stay the same, in my opinion: that's what people knew about and were ready for, so if they can't stick to that deadline, then why should they have even thought about entering in the first place? Sorry if it sounds harsh, but it's what I think.

What we could do to compromise is to keep the deadline at November 30 or whatever it was - then have like a "final round" - the top 5 or however much entries could then have one extra month, until the end of december, to improve their entries as best they can - then the final round of judging begins, and the top 5 or whatever entries are judged and wittled down to the winning 3.

Anyone else got other ideas?

Well, I guess you could put some music like that in, but if you were to distribute the game then Linkin Park probably wouldn't be too happy.

So yes, you could put it in for the compo, but to distribute it afterwards you'd have to take it out since the music is copyrighted.

By the way, I might be wrong, I suggest seeking advice about this from someone who knows more about this sort of stuff than I do.

Hmm, personally i'd like to see the date extended, mainly because it will give me time to custom-mod FPSC and use the mod in the compo, but it's totally down to you DarkFact.

It would also really beef up the quality of the content in the games.

Nope keep it the same, some people set a project time of 3 months.
Keeping it the way it is leaves no advantage for another person. The only thing that doesn't effect the quality of the work is the judging part.

Hello All I have grave news...

Exams are upon me and I can no longer work on my game - Deadly Experiment - for about a month so I am having to drop out of the competition. Although I am dropping out I will still work on my game after exams so I will leave the showcase thread up and everything.

Wow so many entrants. I was just skimming the showcase threads and can't wait to see which ones rise to the top.

I wish I could have come up with an entry but I forgot I was going to be away from the PC on holiday. Best wishes to everyone!

Look, that's an awesome idea about the whole "final round" and all, but some people (myself) signed up for this KNOWING that if they ever DID get to finish their project by the deadline, then they would be even less likely to do any FURTHER work on it AFTER that deadline.

If the deadline stays the same to keep people from having an "unfair advantage" or letting stragellers get back into the game, then keep EVERYTHING the same.

I agree, as of this posting, that the deadline should not be moved. I do not want to get into some sort of "final round" deal and not be able to do a thing about my entry because of prior engagements!

It's like you said, Cipher Software:
Quote: "that's what people knew about and were ready for"

I was ready to get a project done before Nov 30th and not have to worry about ANOTHER deadline afterwards.

I have a question about the custom entities / textures.

Is this judged on the percentage of the entities / textures that are custom, or by how many you have?

For example.

Say my game uses 100 different entites, and 50 out of the 100 are custom. Would I not get that many points because of this, even though I have a lot of custom entities?

Neither. It's a subjective ruling based on the judge's opinion of the custom entities' quality. The number of them is irrelevant, but the judges will not award 20 points based on 1 custom entity in a game. Of course, 0 custom entities get 0 points.
