Oh, so the quality of the entity adds points? So, If I have 5 quality entities, would that mean 5 times more points?

Im pretty sure he means, that if you have a decent amount of good quality entity's that the judges will give you a decent score.

Ok, now I understand. So, if the custom entity fit's well with a certian scene, like a good quality computer mod for the computer room, I would get points added?

It's a simple concept, you are just over complicating it.

I think it's more of how the "quality" of the entity fits with the game's artistic design. So if your custom entities don't flow well with everything else in your game, then it might not count as much.

Just my thought about poor modellers, or cartoony designers. Quality in a game seems to be based upon it's "fitness" to the overall game's graphical design.

Quote: "One of the most important changes is that we've completely replaced the old light-mapping system with our new Dark Lights technology. This gives much faster light mapping speeds, and much better end results than before. The version of Dark Lights now built into FPS Creator fully supports both dual and quad core processors. This means if your CPU allows, you can lightmap your scenes significantly faster. Our test results show dual core systems mapping scenes at up to 70% quicker than single core. The bigger the game scene, the larger the speed increase was."

That's interesting... But, before I entered this contest, the lights would work perfectly... But, let me try using the lightmaps on the WWII segments to see if that works.

Edit: Oops, sorry, wrong thread.

Styloo, I think you should email the link to DarkFact.

I'm sure he'll be able to distribute the link to the other judges as well.

@OC:

I'm sorry man, but what could you possibly think it means? Here's the full context of that sentence:

You must provide a copy of the license for any media used that was not
created by you or TGC.

What exactly do you not get?

I know what it means... I just don't really understand it...

Do I have to:

A. Copy all the licences from the media to a readme.
or
B. Send the seperate licences in a seperate folder in the game folder itself.

You have to:

1) provide a copy of the license, in any form to include but not limited to a)a complete copy of the license located within a readme file; or b)sent as a separate license in a separate folder in the game folder itself; or c)written on the side of a blimp as long as a full color copy of you holding the license and the front page of the New York times with the current date is visible. Whereas you are the provider and the licensee, you must ensure that 1)a.: The aformentioned license file is compiled using a written language that can reproduced and understood by carbon-based organisms and 2)a.: that the separate license file in the game folder itself is in a text base, not binary and that the text is computer readable; or 3)a.: the text is actually ascii art or graphics that when read while your eyes are squinted enough that the text resembles a man and woman kissing.

Dude. Just provide a copy. If you have a license, then you have a copy. Provide it.

He also added:

Quote: "All entries must be compiled and playable. No submissions will be accepted if they are not finished, polished games ready for playing. (This rule should be obvious, but I've found the need for it.)"

To the "Rules" section, which happens to be what he said that he updated.

I think I'm the only one who noticed this, because I'm the reason that he found a need for it.

BTW, due to said rule, I am hearby dropping out of the competition. Perhaps my "entry" will one day reach "playability" status.

I'm going to drop out. I've just begun to work on level 2, and level 1 is not where I want it to be. I'm not sure it could be where I want it to be, though it could certainly be better. Even in a 15x15 grid, keeping FPS up is an issue. I've got level one to run at 30+, but that's without any AI, which opened up a whole new can of worms.

It was great fun and a definite learning experience, but no way will it be finished before the deadline. I will release level one as a plain geometry level with no enemies, just so others can see that I tried. (what else am I going to do with it) LOL

Good luck to everyone. I'm looking forward to seeing them all.

Best.

I'm sorry, my answers are limited. You must ask the right question.

What if my friend gave me a texture that he made before the contest start date? I wouldn't be able to use that, right?

I'm guessing you can, Inspire. It just won't count as "custom media", so you won't get points for it.

@Woolfman: You seem to be rather relieved that I'm out of the competition... gee, I wonder why?

[EDIT]
Yeah, I didn't notice that he changed the prizes... that's kinda messed up, DarkFact. Any reason why?

I don't believe it.

Sometimes software goes wrong. Often FPS Creator goes wrong.

But why did it have to break on me NOW?!?!?!?!

I am so angry. I've worked for at least 4 hours on my second level. Saved it. Opened it. Worked some more. Saved again. Opened again. Bam. It's gone.

Nothing on the second level exists anymore, all that's visible is waypoint markers, all entities, segments, etc. are gone. If anyone knows a fix for this, I'd really appreciate if they could tell me.

I'll check the bug reports forum, but it MAY mean I'll have to pull out of the competition. If I can't fix it or quickly scratch up another level in time by the next three or four days, then I'll pull out. Don't remove my name yet, I'll give official confirmation if I do leave.

Messed up, huh? I posted a few weeks back that I was moving to Europe and that I was asking for some help from this community by letting the contest go a few extra months. I didn't get into details, I just asked. Nobody here, not one of you, asked me in any way why I needed the extra time.

I'm about 10 seconds away from shutting this contest down completely because of the handful of whiny people out there who only care about themselves.

I'm keeping this contest alive for the people that have worked hard and appreciate it. ~DF

Darkfact has a very good point. May I suggest prehaps the deadline could be kept the same but judging is delayed that keeps everything fair and square in some peoples eyes. I think a proper vote should be established on whether the date should be moved esspecially as half the people who moaned about the extension have dropped out! Can someone set up a proper poll so we can settle this, I think personally that the extension should go ahead if people agree because not only would this clearly help darkfact, who was kind enough to present this contest in the first place but it will give late comers (to the forum not just to the contest) a chance to learn and make a much better game for there entry. And I doubt anyone here has a fully polished 4 level game there is always more you can do to make it better.
