Holy apparation of Shintoism! Good work Oddmind. The only thing I would complain about is the fact she's not real and lying naked in my bed worn out from serious loving. Apart from that, top draw!

thanks guys I appreciate the compiments.

shes not quite finished yet. the hair is being re done and the face is getting some more values added, as well as the hand.

also the fan is not quite complete.

Cash I felt really bad about the other geisha, she didn't turn out like I wanted her too. this was kind of my makeup for her, though if you still want to use her I can make some minor alterations.

Nearly finished the old guy model, just need to paint the texture. In the process of moving house atm so it may take a bit longer.

Was thinking of adding idle, talk, walk and dying animations. Any other animations needed?

@oddmind: That artwork looks fantastic! Can't wait to see the final version

Hey everybody, I'm terribly sorry that I haven't replied in so long. The game is coming along nicely. I've been gathering art and media from contributors, squaring things away with the publisher, etc. At the same time I've been involved in a huge project that requires most of my time. I'll be completely done in about 3 days, so then my full attention will be back on Geisha House.

I've had everything set up for a new video, but unfortunately I've been waiting on some media that I've now given up hope for (not you Chenak, you've been a tremendous asset!! ), so after this project I'll drive on without it.

I've been writing out all of the dialog for the game as well, and tweaking the combat system to be more user friendly. I got an early version out to someone (I'm not telling who), and they found combat too difficult. Easy fix. It's no good if only the programmer can play it. After those additions I'll expand my beta testing (you know who you are).

In other news, my wife found a name for what I do - DorkBasic. I guess that says it all...

@Chenak -
That model is looking fabulous, and once again a VERY nice use of polygons. Those animations should be just fine. Can you add one thing though? I'd like him to be able to fall to his knees, and idle there (just a couple end frames that I can loop through). That will be used in a part of the story.

I can't wait! Moving sucks, I hate it more than anything. Being in a military environment, it happens all too often though. Good luck with it

Thanks! That's all I needed to know. I'm trying to figure out collision with .X objects, and I'm thinking about buying the NG Dll. I am now definately getting it after figuring out it's capabilities (the description boggled me). I should've done this a long time ago.

Thanks again, you've really helped me out.

Hey Cash, I've got another question if you don't mind. Can you outline all the tools you use for your game. For example, saying you use 3d World Studio for building levels, DBPro for coding, whatever for outdoors, and so on? It's driving me crazy trying to get a comprehensive list of what works well together. I've been doing this for a few years now, but I have little to show for it. Lately I've been making a lot of progress but I've been running into problems with getting levels and such together. I have lots of tools, but it would just be nice to know a specific instance of what an experienced user uses, like you. It would be great if you could help me out.

Also, how's the game going?

I just finished my big project yesterday. I took a day off, and tomorrow I'll get back to work. All the work I've been doing lately has been on paper.

Tools I use -

Tools:
DBP - Of course
Milkshape - modeling
3DWS - modeling buildings
Ultimate Unwrap Pro - (I haven't bought it yet, but I'm going to, because it is a total necessity for UV mapping and model conversions!)
Paint Shop Pro
Adobe Audition

Fraps - Good for getting videos of your work

Plugins:
Nuclear Glory Collision
LUA - game scripting (I also have LUA Edit)
Bitmap font plugin - http://www.accode.com
Dark AI
Torrey's Advanced Audio Plugin
EZ Rotate
Cloth and Particle pack
DBP Expansion Pack

I think that's it. I'm also using Advanced Terrain. Also, a big thing, is I'm not afraid of spending as much money as I need to on media assets. It is simply impossible for me to make everything, and buying something is just the same as having a team member do it, just faster.

Also, I've stopped playing games. I don't have time to do both, so I had to chose. And I but out TV. It's all about time spent on one project. Oh, and that. Work on one project at a time, people that claim to be working on more than one never get anything done.

And finally, enter competitions. I've written some of my best code in competitions, and you can reuse it forever.

Don't stop playing games- even if you only play like an hour a week.

After all the game making stuff you may not even want to look at another game for a while, but you have to so that you can keep fresh in your head what makes a game fun and all of that... and by looking at other forms of the medium you're working with, you will continualy get new ideas and just in general keep sight of what's important... I read this somewhere, although I can't say where, but it was about game programming and I've found it to be true of lots of things. Basicaly, you need outside stimulation to help you work or whatever. And not just playing other games. Reading a book, watching tv, following some current event, anything helps, but you can't shut yourself in... It's very dangerous to do in any creative endevor...

And you're totaly right about not taking up two games at once. Just don't overwork yourself too much- it will effect the game as well.

It's not like you need to spend lots of time stimulating your brain outside of work, just a bit.

Also, I've stopped playing games mainly except for things I enjoy. I don't have much time to do both, so it becomes a time management juggling act, which I think I do pretty well with. I don't watch TV much because, well, there really isn't much that interests me. It's all about time spent on one project. Oh, and that. Work on one project at a time, people that claim to be working on more than one never get anything done.

And finally, enter competitions. I've written some of my best code in competitions, and you can reuse it forever."

That's great advice. I've seen it in many a post by you. I did pretty much stop playing games, watching TV, having a life last year mainly because of school. I was SWAMPED with work that took up most of my time. It forced me to make a decision between playing games, or making games. Mostly I make them. I have tons and tons of code and parts of the core of a game that will work out once I can finish everything. I actually mainly have the downgraded version of your software. I have:

DBC
Milkshape
Cartography Shop
Photoshop 7

I could use possibly some upgrades, but I just have been struggling lately with the adaptability of programs. Thanks for the list, I think it will help me quite a bit. Perseverence prevails! Thanks a bunch Cash.

Also thanks BizARRR Pirate for the advice, it is good to stay interested in games, even if it takes some of the time away from making them. I think I do a pretty good balance. Thanks!

I am sort of keeping things under wraps. Forgive me Among other things, I've finished the script (which was rather long) and solidified some gameplay aspects. Part of the wait is the fact that I'm waiting on some music, 2D art, and 3D models. Without the new artwork, any new screenshots would look about the same as the old ones.

I hate to even say this, but another reason that I backed off a bit was because I got some very negative, and pointless, feedback from a couple of people here. It doesn't matter, but it's not cool either. No worries though, I'll post a killer video as soon as I get my demons squared away.

Thank you! I'm not sure what you mean about the controls though, if you explain better then I can either explain it better to you, or fix a possible issue.

Thanks! No guns, plenty of magic and swords and such. I'll get it finished before Christmas, but it won't be on shelves before then. February, likely. If I release at Christmas it will get swamped by million dollar titles and I'll lose my short window of opportunity to make sales.

Roll on February! I'm in a very RPG mood at the moment. Particuarly indie ones; I just bought Mount and Blade. This looks just as good but in a different way.

Well, since I've already mentioned it, I guess telling the names won't hurt, especially since a lot of people already know.

Uncle Sam and Wolf Dreamer had some nasty things to say. Kenjar had some unpleasant things to say, but we worked our issues out over e-mail. I think that their points of contention arose because they were comparing my title to RPGs like Oblivion, which have a budget of $millions$. I've got a ¢Blair Witch Project¢ budget.

I'm very confident about my game, graphically and substantively. You can't please everyone, I suppose. It's unfortunate, and did cause me to back off of the forum, but it's not slowing down development one bit.

I appreciate it guys

Just checked the site- looking good. It says there will be overhead and first person views. Does this mean no angled views? It's a bit late in the game to do anything about it, but I am curious.

Cash, you don't see the whole picture here. They are making a game that they claim "Amazing" and "Mindblowing", and they are afraid of competition like your game. I guess they try to make the game worse by lowering your self esteem. Hah, don't let it work

Yah man, Youve got to be one of the best coders on this forum to pull off somthing like this. I bet Uncle Sam's game will be CRAP compared to this. Dont let a couple of jerks mess with you. Youre reacting exactly how they want you to react, now show 'em that youre better than that AND CODE THE CRAP OUT OF 'EM!!!!! YAH!.... mabey a little over the top, but hey, you're doin' great.

@The Full Metal Coder Roxas -
I've played plenty of games in my time, but I've given up games while this project is being worked on. Also, you need to be a good programmer, a decent artist, and have a bit of money to spend. If you are lacking one of those irreplaceable resources, then you won't succeed in a big game, and likely won't finish a small one either.

@Bizar Guy -
Glad you like the site You can change the angle of the view to whatever you want. And it's never too late for anything, all that matters if it's if it's good

@Xenocythe -
It's not about competition. Really, nobody here is competing with each other. We can all succeed independently, and that in no way affects anyone else.

@Greenlig -
Thanks man, I really appreciate it Hey, did you ever get my e-mail?

@RadiusOFT -
I appreciate it I don't have anything against Uncle Sam's abilities, I'm sure his game will turn out just fine. It really has nothing to do with me. And don't worry, I am coding the crap out of my game, nothing is going to change that Insulting someones project is just an easy way to take a cheap shot at someone you don't like, and while I can't possibly understand it, it's nothing more than frustrating. I don't know what people expect, I'm just one guy trying to make the best possible game that I can.

The bottom line for me is that I'd rather be coding and working on my game than arguing about it with other people. I can make witty and s c a t h i n g replies to their snide comments all I want, but in the end all that matters is the game. Anything that takes away from that will get put simply get moved aside.

[Edit]
This is so odd. I couldn't post this message at all yesterday. Every time I clicked Post IE would just bring up a blank white screen and do nothing. I pinpointed it down to the word s c a t h i n g. If that word is in the message, then it simply won't post.
