[Bumping this thread with a small update!]
I've changed the in-game gui.

Before:

After:

Changes:

The gui no longer display the sword and world level, I thought that was unnecessary.

It still show how many souls you've collected and now they're also shown floating around the upper-left corner of the screen.

The health indicator changes colour from green to red.

The assigned buttons for the sword and the shield are displayed as well.

The sword icon change when you have two swords.

The rings around the health indicator rotates slowly.

Hmm, looks promising... I will need to see it in action though... Nice work anyway, I sure like the green to red health bar!

Awesome! It looks really cool! REALLY! I notice you rotate two plain objects in the health meter, right? If you could rotate one faster than the other, it would look even better.

How many souls fit up there? Because when I played, I got about 40 of them, and I can't quite see all of them fitting in that corner, not to mention the fps drop...

Anyway, a really good GUI improvement! Well done!

Thanks! It's more like four rotating plains(the cloud behind the souls(2)+the health meter(2)), the health-meter plains doesn't rotate at the same speed(+0.2 and -0.15). If they would rotate faster, I think it could become irritating after a while.

There can be a maximum of 20 souls in the corner. But you still have the counter.

Wow, I applaud the GUI change. I always thought the old one was too confusing and messy, this one is very impressive!

Thanks, I think you'll like the game it's advertising even more and considering it's the first time anyone on TGC can see a mention of it without going to our site... well I think a few people here recognize the game's name. But enough stealing zzz's thread.

I must say that your modeling skills are excellent, I wish I could make static models half as well as you make your animated ones.

@Yitzu:
I don't think I'll have a problem remembering that post.

----

The model for soulhunter is getting pretty old by now, I made it like 3 years ago. And it is a mess. But since it has a lot of animations and since you can make anything look "good" with a nice texture, I decided to just make new textures. I'm, however, remodeling the cap.

Old:________________New(DB render):

New texture for the face and cap. The other textures are not done yet...

The cap consists of two parts; the cap bottom is a just limb attached to soulhunter's head, but the rest is a cone using my bone and skin system. It's a real pain to achieve a nice seam between these objects, I've had some problems with normals facing the wrong way, but I finally solved that today.

So, what do you think?

looks good, zzz. with the added detail and depth around and between the eyes he is very reminiscent of Iron Maiden's Eddie (which is a good thing to me )

the work inside his mouth is good, too. overall, nice update

2nd thought: SoulHunter... Ed Hunter... cousins?

UPDATE!!!
The "new" SoulHunter model is done!
I didn't want to post until I was completely finished with it.
I've finally added the new "cloth-hat", which looks really cool!
It did take a long time to implement, and I was close to giving up a lot of times.
But at 4.00 am(thank you coffee) this morning I
perfected the cloth effect and now everything works like a charm!

Its so unbelievable to me that something like this is possible in dbc

great job on EVERYTHING!

I guess you hear it pretty often, but why dont you change to dbp? It offers so many functions and you can structure your code much better, etc.

keep it up

Thanks Valle!

I do own DBP and I've made some games in it(never finished one though), but I've been working on SoulHunter for too long to just convert it. I've also been coding in C++ for a while now, and I've grown quite fond of it. Therefore, my next project will probably be a C++ one, I actually made my planetoid engine using DarkGDK.

Just to be honest here, I hope the animations get a bit of a retouch as well, with the next texture, especially the walking looks a bit cheap.

Besides that, the usual praise and wows from me.

Hi zzz,
congrats!. Everything is fine. I think it would be better to tune the animations of soulhunter and upgrade the other characters too.

I have a personal recommendation.
Try to finish it off as quickly as you can, strive to do it!. So you can have your first Big game complete.

@Zzz I knew you'd notice.

It looks awesome, honestly. Take your time, make sure that when you say 'it's done', it feels like its really done. But I guess you know that already, just wanted to have said it.

I disagree. If he tries to get it done ASAP, there are things that will be missed, and it will have a more rushed feel to it rather than a completed game. I would say, take your time, do not rush, find any bug you can, add any feature you feel is missing, and release when you feel it is ready.

Thanks for the comments guys!
I've tried my best at making a better walk animation, but it's kinda hard to make it look realistic on a character with really short legs! It was a while since I last posted, since progress has been slow. But here's a small screenie from the boss battle I'm working on right now:

Try do fast short steps for the character. So it can move "faster", and looks realistic.

Thanks for your comments!

@TheComet:
At the end of level 4 night turns into dawn, so the beginning of level 5 will also take place during dawn. But I'm going to darken the sky during the actual boss fight. The bright sky will make this transition more apparent.

@AlfaX:
It's actually more of a running-animation than a walking-animation right now. It sure works better, but it may need some fine-tuning.

Edit: I've created a profile on Vimeo. So, from now on, I'll upload videos there as well!
